GLEN BURNIE, MD. — The Children’s Guild and The Monarch Academy have signed leases with Platt Development Group to occupy space at 6730 Baymeadow Dr. in Glen Burnie. Monarch, an arts and technology-based school, has signed a 24,320-square-foot lease that carries an option to expand by 13,000 square feet. The lease can be extended for the next 25 years. By 2012, the school hopes to house 600 kids in grades K-8. The Children’s Guild, a special-education charter school, has signed a 25-year lease for 17,621 square feet. Greg Masi of Columbia, Md.-based Manekin represented both tenants, and Sage Platt represented Platt Development Group internally.

PLANO, TEXAS — Plano Independent School District has awarded Cadence McShane Construction Co. the comprehensive construction assignment for Douglas Otto Middle School in Plano. The new 153,400-square-foot educational facility, which will be located on a 22.77-acre site at 6600 Alma Dr., will feature 63 classrooms, eight science labs, a music room, a 500-seat competition gymnasium, cafeteria, library, practice gymnasium, administration facilities and dedicated space for special education and guidance counseling. The assignment also includes construction of two football fields, four fenced tennis courts and a 133-stall surface parking lot. Dallas-based PBK Architects are providing architectural services.
ORLANDO, FLA. — Colonial Properties Trust is overseeing the interior renovation of a 33,000-square-foot facility for the allied health education firm Concorde Career Colleges. The property, located at 3444 McCrory Place in Orlando, is scheduled for an August completion. Concorde’s facility will feature offices, staff and student lounges and classroom and lab areas. Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Pasquale Kuritzky Architecture designed the project, and RTM & Associates and Blaney Engineering will serve as engineering consultants.
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. — The Art Institutes has signed a 35,000-square-foot lease for office space in Two Columbus Center, an office building being developed by Armada Hoffler Holding Co. in the Town Center of Virginia Beach development. The property is located at the intersection of Main Street and Constitution Drive. The Art Institutes will open in time for the 2010 spring semester, and the lease carries an option to increase its space by 15,000 square feet in the next 2 years. The space can accommodate 2,000 students studying media arts, graphic design, fashion and culinary arts. Michael Divaris, Vivian Turok and Krista Costa of Divaris Real Estate’s Virginia Beach office represented the landlord. Chris Joyner of Dallas-based Fischer & Co. represented the tenant.
CHANHASSEN, MINN. — Minneapolis-based Kraus-Anderson Construction Co. has completed a new 13,000-square-foot service center for Carver County. The facility is located at 7808 Kerber Blvd. in Chanhassen. The two-story building will serve as a center for motor vehicle transactions and drivers’ licenses, passports, and Department of Natural Resources transactions, including hunting and fishing licenses. The building features a greeting station, customer seating, a children’s play area and a drive-thru window. The project architect was Minneapolis-based Bentz/Thompson/Rietow. This completion marks the second service center project Kraus-Anderson has completed for Carver County. The company remodeled and expanded the service center in Chaska, Minn., which opened in March.
LINCROFT AND FREEHOLD, N.J. — Clarke Caton Hintz has designed four projects for Brookdale Community College. The projects will encompass a total renovation of 161,000 square feet across three areas at the college’s two campuses in Lincroft and Freehold. The first project is a 94,000-square-foot renovation and addition to the Collins Arena and Recreation Education Center at the main campus in Lincroft. The new center will be LEED certified and is set for completion in 2010. This project will also include a new fitness center. The next project is a 29,000-square-foot renovation and addition to the Automotive Technology Facility. Also at the main campus in Lincroft, the facility sits adjacent to the Collins Arena and is slated for completion in 2009. The renovation to the existing facility will incorporate additional service bays within the teaching lab area, as well as six new specialized classrooms and additional administration space. The final project is a 38,000-square-foot renovation to the Western Monmouth Higher Education Center at the branch campus in Freehold. Completion is set for this year. CAPE CORAL, FLA. — Fort Myers, Fla.-based J.L. Wallace has been tapped to build two 5,600-square-foot buildings in Cape Coral for the Diocese of Venice. The development, St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, will house a chapel, classrooms and offices. The design was completed by Jason P. Tramonte Architect. The engineering firms Liebl & Barrow, Harrop Engineering Co. and Kevatron Engineering also helped with the project. No groundbreaking date has been set.
TORRANCE, CALIF. — Torrance Unified School District and Barnhart Inc. have broken ground on $9.4 million in construction projects for four high schools in the area. Torrance, North, South and West High Schools will be receiving new sport stadiums. The existing stadiums will be torn down and replaced. The stadiums will feature sports fields, 8-lane tracks, aluminum bleachers and press boxes. Construction is slated for completion by September. School Bond Measure Z, a $90-million funding program passed in November 2008, is funding the projects. Westberg+White provided architectural services for the projects.
DEERFIELD AND GLENVIEW, ILL. — Chicago-based Reed Construction has completed two medical office suite renovation projects for Evanston, Ill.-based NorthShore University HealthSystem. The first project consisted of the multi-phase renovation of a suite located at 190 Waukegan Rd. in Deerfield. Construction included new examination rooms, new nursing stations and a new laboratory, as well as the addition of new finished throughout the suite. The second project included the addition of five new examination rooms and a new nursing station at a medical office suite located at 2250 Waukegan Rd. in Glenview. Both of the facilities remained open throughout the construction process.
STILLWATER, MINN. — Minneapolis-based Kraus-Anderson Construction Co. is advancing the Campus 2025 project, a multi-phase expansion and renovation of the Government Center in Stillwater. The project will ultimately add more than 200,000 square feet of new space and remodel more than 75,000 square feet of space for courts, county offices and a new 911 call center. Phase I, which is scheduled for completion in May, includes a five-story, 165,777-square-foot addition to the courthouse, which will add new courtrooms, holding areas and judges chambers; as well as a 73,406-square-foot addition to the Law Enforcement Center, which will add new office space, holding areas and a data center. Phase II comprises a 62,000-square-foot remodeling of the existing second-floor courts and office area. Phase III includes a 60,000-square-foot remodeling of the existing first-floor office filing and storage areas. Phase IV will renovate the South Wing of the Government Center. In addition, Kraus-Anderson will also manage the recently announced Phase V of the project, which will also focus on renovations to the South Wing.
