NEW YORK CITY — The Pearl Theatre Co., an off-Broadway company, has signed a 20-year lease for space on the north side of West 42nd Street, between 10th and 11th avenues in New York City. The tenant will take possession of the 160-seat theater this July, which was formerly occupied by Signature Theatre company. Matthew Gorman and Joshua Gettler of New Street Realty Advisors represented the owner, Massachusetts Mutual Life, in the transaction. Stephen Powers of Denham Wolf represented the tenant.

PLANO — Cadence McShane Construction Co. has completed renovations and a new addition for the 44,375-square-foot Plano Senior High School, located at 2200 Independence Parkway in Plano, on behalf of the Plano Independent School District. The renovations include reconstructing four physics laboratories, four chemistry laboratories and a preparatory room following the demolition of eight classrooms. Cadence also completed a 20,885-square-foot performing arts building and a pedestrian bridge to connect the new building with the existing school. Additionally, Cadence completed a 12,305-square-foot addition and renovations for the fine arts building and a 2,000-square-foot addition to the athletics building. WRA Architects provided architectural services for the project.
WHEATON, ILL. — Community Housing Advocacy Development (CHAD), a not-for-profit organization, has purchased a 10,600-square-foot facility in Wheaton for the relocation of its operations from Villa Park, Ill. The new facility is located at 531 Roosevelt Rd. CHAD provides affordable housing to families in need. Jeffrey Girling and Terence Lynch of Paine/Wetzel/TCN Worldwide represented CHAD in the transaction. Wayne Caplan and Olivia Czyzynski of Sperry Van Ness represented the seller.
GODFREY, ILL. — Contegra Construction Co. has completed a $10.5 million renovation and expansion of the Hatheway Hall theater building on the campus of Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey. The project included the addition of 6,800 square feet and renovation of 62,500 square feet. It also featured a new two-story enclosed lobby. The project team included architect AAIC Inc. of Collinsville, Ill., civil engineer Sheppard, Morgan & Schwab of Alton, Ill. and structural engineer EDM of St. Louis, Mo.
St. Louis — Washington University has announced plans to remake a central part of the Delmar Loop, which is a six-block shopping and dining destination near the university, with an $80 million project consisting of stores and apartments for approximately 550 students. The project comprises a four- to six- story building of retail space and apartments on Delmar Boulevard at Eastgate Avenue and three new mid-rise apartment buildings on Enright Avenue nearby. Construction is scheduled to begin January 2013 with occupancy in August 2014. Washington University owns all the affected property.
HOUSTON — Cadence McShane Construction Co. has delivered the $13.7 million, 98,724-square-foot Patterson Elementary School, located at 5302 Allendale Road in Houston. The two-story school features 50 classrooms, a library, a kitchen, a cafeteria and a basketball pavilion. The new school is certified LEED Silver and features environmentally friendly building materials, energy-efficient heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, lighting control and domestic hot water systems, as well as a construction waste recycling program. Sustaita Architects designed the school, which is part of the Houston Independent School District.
PITTSBURGH, ILL. — Swansea, Ill.-based Holland Construction Services has begun work on the $5.3 million Johnston City High School sports complex in Pittsburgh. The project includes razing the existing football and softball fields. Crews will then add a new concession stand and locker room building, press box, a synthetic surface running track and new artificial turf football field, plus additional elements. FGM Architects is designing the complex, which is scheduled for completion later this summer.
PHILADELPHIA — The Franklin Institute of Philadelphia has selected Skanska USA to construct its new building addition — the 53,000-square-foot Nicholas and Athena Karabots Pavilion. The project is part of a four-year renovation of the facility and the museum has raised $60 million toward its total goal of $64.7 million. The pavilion addition will include an education and conference center and a permanent exhibition. Skanska plans to break ground this spring and the addition is slated to open in the summer of 2014.
MIAMI — Ground has broken on the $275 million, 250,000-square-foot Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science, located in downtown Miami. Grimshaw Architects designed the property, which includes terrestrial and aquatic spaces such as a 600,000 gallon aquarium, a full dome 3-D planetarium, interactive exhibits, innovative technology, two additional wings of exhibition space, a learning center and cafes. Completion is slated for 2015.
SPARTA, N.J. — Hance Construction has completed renovation of the New Station Park Recreation Complex, a 12,150-square-foot, multi-building facility at 38 Station Rd. The Sparta Police Athletic League has signed a long-term lease with property owner Dermody Associates for two of the spaces in the four-building complex. The project is located on a former industrial site, which has been vacant for more than 20 years. The buildings leased by the athletic league include an indoor basketball facility and office and meeting space.
