GEORGETOWN — SHW Group, an educational architecture and engineering firm, has been selected by the Georgetown Independent School District (ISD) to design two elementary schools — McCoy Elementary School to the southwest of Georgetown and a second, unnamed elementary school to the southeast — for a total project cost of $31.2 million. The existing McCoy Elementary School will be repurposed into an administration support facility. Plans for the new two-story, 88,000-square-foot McCoy Elementary School include sustainable features such as rainwater collection, a green roof, local construction materials and day lighting. It will serve 800 kindergarten through fifth grade students. Construction on the new McCoy will begin this spring and is scheduled for completion in fall 2012. The second, unnamed elementary school designed by SHW Group will open no later than 2014. Together, the two new elementary schools will serve 1,600 students.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The City of Charlotte has acquired a 2.9-acre lot at the corner of South Tyson Street and Westinghouse Boulevard in Charlotte for $1.69 million. The city plans to development a facility for the Steele Creek Division Police Station on the site. Jim Plyler and Steve Gentry of Piedmont Properties/CORFAC International represented the local undisclosed owners in the transaction.

PARSIPPANY AND WEST ORANGE, N.J. — The Hampshire Companies has acquired two daycare facilities in New Jersey for an undisclosed amount. The two properties total 16,320 square feet and were previously owned by New Dimensions Learning Corp., which operates them as Clockwork Learning Centers. One is located at 627 Mount Pleasant Ave. in West Orange and the other is located at 920 Edwards Road in Parsippany. Matt McDonough of CB Richard Ellis represented both sides in the deal.

LUFKIN — A 37,000-square-foot medical outpatient clinic building in Lufkin, which is 100 percent occupied by the GSA/Department of Veterans Affairs, has been sold to Pomona, N.Y.-based RJ Block Properties. Located on seven acres at 2216 N. John Redditt Dr., the property was built in 2009 and has a long-term, 20-year modified gross lease with the GSA/Department of Veterans Affairs. Brett Butler of Stan Johnson Co. represented both the buyer and the seller, Lufkin-based LD Lyndon Properties.

CHICAGO — Leopardo has completed the construction of a $10 million build-out for Alder School of Professional Psychology in Chicago. Located at One N. Dearbon St., the new 101,000-square-foot campus features a private ground-floor entrance lobby, high-tech classrooms, conference rooms, a library, collaborative spaces and administrative offices. Leopardo served as general contractor with ConopOp serving as project manager. OMP/P Cannon Design provided architectural services.

AVE MARIE, FLA. — Fort Myers, Fla.-based J.L. Wallace, serving as general contractor, has completed the construction of the Tom Golisano Field House on the campus of Ave Marie University in Ave Marie. The 38,107-square-foot project include a NCAA-regulation basketball court, a training room, a weight room, men's and women's locker rooms, referee dressing rooms, a ticket office, concession area, administrative offices and a conference room. Jason P. Tramonte Architect Inc. provided design services, Wilson Miller Inc. served as civil engineer, Liebl & Barrow served as structural engineer, Kevatron Engineering served as mechanical engineer and Jewitt Engineering served as electrical engineer for the project.

INDIANAPOLIS — Brown – Davis Joint Venture LLC is developing Chase Near Eastside Legacy Center, which is a component of the 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee's community impact activities. Located on the campus of the Arsenal Technical High School, the $11.2 million, 27,000-square-foot Chase Neat Eastside Education and Wellness Center/NFL Youth Education Town will feature a fitness center with a full gymnasium and locker rooms, offices, conference rooms, classrooms, an educational kitchen, a media center, a lounge, a greenhouse and a mezzanine level with cardio equipment and an exercise studio. Additionally, the facility will offer comprehensive programs and youth development activities for neighborhood residents. Ratio Architects is providing architectural services for the project, which is slated for completion in December 2011. The joint venture, consisting of Browning Construction and Davis & Associates, is serving as construction manager for the project.

HUNTSVILLE, ALA. — A Philadelphia-based investor has purchased Virginia College, a 51,171-square-foot facility in downtown Huntsville, for $9.87 million. Situated on 5.43 acres, the former Kroger building was redeveloped in 2010. Virginia College is on a 15-year, absolute NNN lease with 1 percent rent bumps annually. Greenville, S.C.-based RealtyLink developed and sold the property.

CAPE CORAL, FLA. — Fort Myers, Fla.-based Stevens Construction has commenced the renovations at Cape Coral First United Methodist Church. Located at 4118 Coronado Parkway in Cape Coral, the project includes renovation and a 6,920-square-foot expansion. Upon completion in spring 2011, the two-story, 13,377-square-foot building will feature an enhanced children's and youth ministry facility, including a preschool, a multipurpose room, classrooms, a kitchen and associated services. Christopher Lee Architects Inc. is providing architectural services for the project.

PITTSBURG, ILL. — Johnston City Community Unit School District #1 has selected Swansea, Ill.-based Holland Construction Services to construct a $1.5 million addition and renovation project at Lincoln Elementary School in Pittsburg. The project includes a 5,333-square-foot expansion, including three classrooms, a media center/library and computer lab, and additional restroom facilities. Renovations include electrical upgrades, a new walk-out freezer with a canopy, office remodeling and upgrading the exterior drive-up bus lane. Construction is slated for completion in summer 2011. O'Fallon, Ill.-based FGM Architects is providing architectural services for the project.
