HUNTSVILLE, ALA. — Mazda Toyota Manufacturing will invest an additional $830 million in its automotive plant in Huntsville. The two automakers originally formed a joint venture and announced the project in 2018. The total cost of the facility is now $2.3 billion, and the joint venture plans to train and house up to 4,000 employees at the property, having hired 600 employees to date. The new facility will have the capacity to produce up to 150,000 units of a future Mazda crossover model and up to 150,000 units of the Toyota SUV each year. The plant is situated 14 miles from Toyota’s existing manufacturing facility. Production is expected to begin in early 2021 with construction on roofing, siding, floor slabs, ductwork, fire protection and electrical now more than 75 percent complete.

PORTSMOUTH, VA. — Woda Cooper Cos. will develop Holley Pointe, a 50-unit affordable housing complex in Portsmouth. The Columbus, Ohio-based developer expects the project to cost $10.9 million and to be complete in summer 2021. The Virginia Housing Authority provided Low-Income Housing Tax Credits to support the development, which will offer two- and three-bedroom floor plans. The community will be open to families, singles and seniors earning 80 percent or less of the area median income (AMI). Rents are projected to range from $710 and $1,135 per month. In addition, there will be 6,500 square feet of commercial space on the ground level. Hooker DeJong Architecture designed the building, Hoggard-Eure Associates is the civil engineer and Woda Construction Inc. is the general contractor. Woda Cooper’s management division will oversee day-to-day operations.

PANAMA CITY BEACH, FLA. — The St. Joe Co. and BRW MidGrove LLC will build The Lodge 30A, a boutique hotel in Panama City Beach. The property will be situated on Scenic County Highway 30A adjacent to the planned mixed-use development Greenway Station. Amenities at the three-story hotel will include a fitness center and a pool. St. Joe Resort Operations LLC will manage the property. Site development on The Lodge 30A is expected to begin immediately, and the parties anticipate the hotel will open in early 2022.

SALINA, KAN. — Great Plains Manufacturing Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Kubota North America Corp., has unveiled plans for a $53 million expansion project and 750,000-square-foot building purchase. The effort is to further invest in the company’s Salina operations in support of growing demand for Kubota construction equipment. The existing building will become available for occupancy after July 2021. The company plans to launch operations by the end of 2021 in a phased-in approach. Great Plains expects to add approximately 130 new manufacturing jobs to its existing 1,450-person Kansan employee base.

OLATHE, KAN. — McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. has completed construction of the new Johnson County medical examiner facility in Olathe. The 32,000-square-foot, single-story building is located at 11894 S. Sunset Drive in the heart of the Johnson County Government Campus. The $21 million project was designed to meet the highest standards of the National Association of Medical Examiners. The facility will help increase autopsy rates and provide data for public health officials to assist in identifying trends and emerging diseases. The project team included PGAV Architects, SmithGroup, Henderson Engineering, McClure Engineering and Confluence.

OAK BROOK, ILL. — J.C. Anderson has completed office renovations totaling 53,111 square feet for ReaderLink at The Crossings in Oak Brook. J.C. Anderson added private offices, open office cubicles, coffee stations, private restrooms, conference rooms and a meeting space. The work was completed in phases. ReaderLink distributes hardcover, trade and paperback books to booksellers in North America. Ware Malcomb served as architect. JLL oversaw construction management. The office is located at 1420 Kensington Road.

VanTrust-Glendale-AZ

GLENDALE, ARIZ. — VanTrust Real Estate has purchased 76.4 acres of land along the Loop 303 corridor at Sarival Road and Maryland Avenue in Glendale. The company plans to break ground on a 660,000-square-foot speculative industrial building on the site in October. Upon completion, scheduled for June 2021, the facility will feature 40-foot clear heights, clerestory glass for natural light and ample auto and trailer parking, as well as access to Loop 303, Northern Parkway and Interstate 10. Jim Wilson of Cushman & Wakefield is marketing the property. Terms of the acquisition were not released.

PARKER, COLO. — Plymouth, Minn.-based Dominium has received $81 million in construction and permanent financing for the development of South Range Crossing Apartments, an affordable housing complex in Parker. KeyBank Real Estate Capital (KBREC) secured the financing, which includes a $50 million construction loan and a $31 million Freddie Mac Tax-Exempt Loan (TEL) forward commitment. Financing partners include CREA, which provided a 4 percent low-income housing tax credit equity investment, and the Colorado Housing Finance Agency, which issued bonds and allocated the credits. Al Beaumariage of KBREC’s Commercial Mortgage Group and Kelly Frank of KeyBank’s Community Development Lending and Investment team structured the financing. Situated on 11 acres, South Range Crossing will feature 204 units in a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom layouts spread across eight three-story residential buildings. The property will also feature a clubhouse with a business center, pool, spa, playground and fitness center. All units will be affordable to residents earning up to 60 percent of the area median income. Completion is slated for 2021.

GALLATIN, TENN. — Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) has broken ground on an $800 million data center located roughly 18 miles north of Nashville in Gallatin. The company acquired the 809-acre development site earlier this year for $20 million under the name Woolhawk LLC, according to reports by local news site Gallatin News. The 982,000-square-foot campus will be built to LEED Gold certification standards, using 80 percent less water than the average data center. The development will also be supported by 100 percent renewable energy. Facebook has signed contracts for 220 megawatts of solar energy in Tennessee in support of the project.  The company anticipates more than 1,100 construction workers will be onsite at the peak of construction, and the completed development will support approximately 100 new jobs in the form of technicians, engineers, facility managers, logistics professionals and security personnel.  “We’re excited about Facebook in Gallatin because of the advantages we think it is going bring to our community,” says Paige Brown, the city’s mayor. “We’re confident in the brightest of futures for both Facebook and the city of Gallatin.” Facebook unveiled plans to build another $800 million data center 65 miles west of Chicago in Dekalb, Illinois, earlier this year. …
