KEENE, N.H. — Brady Sullivan Properties is redeveloping the Colony Mill Marketplace, an existing 112,000-square-foot mixed-use project in Keene, located about 50 miles southwest of Concord. Construction of 89 apartments is slated for completion by the end of fall 2019, and the property already encompasses Elm City Brewing Co., Keene Casino and NBT Bank. The mill was originally built in the mid-1700s and was traded and redeveloped numerous times before it reopened as Colony Mill Marketplace in 1983.

CHICAGO — Amazon has unveiled plans to expand its Chicago tech hub and create an additional 400 jobs in fields including cloud computing, advertising and business development. To accommodate the job creation, Amazon will expand its office in downtown Chicago by more than 70,000 square feet. This will double the company’s tech workforce within the city. Amazon’s Chicago tech hub is one of the company’s 18 North American tech hubs. Amazon employees in Chicago currently build and support products and services for Amazon Web Services, Amazon Advertising and the company’s transportation and operations units. Together with its customer fulfillment and retail facilities, Amazon has created more than 11,000 full-time jobs in Illinois and invested over $4.4 billion in the state since 2010.
ST. PETERS, MO. — A new apartment community known as 5300 Centre Apartments has opened in St. Peters, about 30 miles west of St. Louis. Developed by Propper Construction Services, the four-story property features 265 units across two buildings. The community includes two rooftop garden areas, one of which is designed for recreation areas while the other is designated for quiet areas with hammocks and outdoor yoga classes. Other amenities include a pool, rooftop lounge, fitness center, business center, covered parking, electric vehicle charging stations and bicycle storage. Renters will be able to choose from fully furnished or unfurnished units. Monthly rental rates range from $920 for studios to $2,585 for three-bedroom suites. 2B Residential is the management and leasing company. Zwick + Gandt Architecture served as architect while S.M. Wilson & Co. was the general contractor. A grand opening celebration will take place this Thursday, Sept. 19.
ELK GROVE VILLAGE, ILL. — Krusinski Construction Co. has broken ground on the new headquarters for Yamazen Inc. in Elk Grove Village. The 138,000-square-foot, two-story building will be located at 111 NW Point Blvd. Yamazen, which sells and distributes machine tool equipment and is a subsidiary of Japan-based Yamazen Corp., will relocate its current operations and staff from Schaumburg. Completion is slated for summer 2020. The facility will feature 50,000 square feet of offices, conference rooms and product demonstration areas. The distribution space will include two loading docks, two drive-in doors and 137 car parking spaces. The project team includes Cornerstone Architects Ltd., civil engineer V3 Companies Ltd. and owner representative Ketone Partners.
Prescott Group Breaks Ground on Multi-Tower Mixed-Use Campus in Turtle Creek Neighborhood of Dallas

DALLAS — Prescott Group has begun the demolition and early construction phase for 2727 Turtle Creek, a five-acre mixed-use campus in the Turtle Creek submarket of Dallas. The development will include an office tower, high-rise apartment tower and a hotel tower. Prescott Group imploded an existing, vacant nine-story office building and parking garage on the site early on Sunday, Sept. 15. The building was the former home of Republic Insurance, according to local media reports. Construction crews are clearing the site and beginning utility upgrades for the multi-tower development along Turtle Creek Boulevard. Prescott Group expects to finish the demolition and removal phase of construction by the end of the year and wrap up the utility and infrastructure upgrades in the first quarter of 2020. The office tower at 2727 Turtle Creek will rise 19 stories and span 285,000 square feet. Prescott Group plans for the building to feature a rooftop terrace, fitness center, conference and training center, bike storage and a full-service café. NASHVILLE, TENN. — The Beach Co. has broken ground on Sixth South, an apartment complex in downtown Nashville that will feature 299 multifamily units and 5,400 square feet of retail space. Communal amenities will include a saltwater swimming pool, pool deck, outdoor kitchens, pet spa, club room and a fitness center. The Beach Co. expects to complete Sixth South in summer 2021. JC Darby and Jon Petty with Southeast Venture are the listing agents for the retail space.
HOUSTON — Conn’s HomePlus, a Houston-based home furnishing and electronics store, has opened its 656,658-square-foot distribution center in Houston. The center will serve 45 of the company’s 130 stores nationwide, and Conn’s will consolidate its existing warehouse and distribution operations in Houston into the new building. In 2019, Conn’s HomePlus has opened six showrooms in Texas, with plans to open an additional three in the state through the end of the year.
HUMBLE, TEXAS — General contractor Cadence McShane has broken ground on Parc Air 59, a 279,632-square-foot industrial project in Humble, a northern suburb of Houston. Jackson-Shaw is developing the two-building project, which will consist of an 83,436-square-foot building with 28-foot clear heights and a 196,196-square-foot building with 32-foot clear heights. The buildings will also feature 150 and 245 parking spaces, respectively. Completion is slated for April 2020.
NEW YORK CITY — A partnership between Charney Construction & Development and Tavros Holdings is nearing completion of The Dime, a 350,000-square-foot mixed-use project in Brooklyn. The tower incorporates the Dime Savings Bank building, originally constructed in 1908, into a mixed-use development featuring 177 residential units, more than 100,000 square feet of office space and 50,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Amenities include an acre of outdoor space, a basketball court and a 10,000-square-foot rock climbing gym recently leased by MetroRock. Fogarty Finger is the architect of the project.
DES PLAINES, ILL. — The Opus Group has completed construction of Ellison Apartments, a 113-unit apartment complex in Des Plaines. The project, which includes 1,349 square feet of street-level retail space, was a joint venture with Berkshire Residential Investments. Amenities include a fitness center, clubroom, pet spa, game lounge and outdoor amenity deck. A grand opening event is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 26. Opus served as developer, design-builder and structural engineer. ESG Architects designed the property.
