DALLAS — Aligned Energy, a data center developer and operator, will build a 360,000-square-foot colocation facility in Dallas. The project represents an expansion of the company’s 19-acre DFW-01 campus and will increase the development’s critical power capacity by eight megawatts. Construction is underway and is expected to be complete by late November.
IRVING, TEXAS — Weitzman will renovate Irving Towne Center, a 240,000-square-foot retail center located at the intersection of State Highway 183 and North Belt Line Road in Irving. Originally built in 1986 and anchored by Target, the center houses tenants such as Tuesday Morning, On The Border and Anytime Fitness. Hodges & Associates is the architect for the renovation project, which is expected to begin in late 2019 or early 2020 and to be complete by the end of 2020.
CAMBRIDGE, MASS. — Nauset Construction has completed Ten Essex, a 46-unit multifamily and retail property in Cambridge. Developed by 3MJ Realty LLC, the building offers three studios, 10 one-bedroom units, 19 two-bedroom units and 14 three-bedroom units. Five of the apartments have been designated as affordable housing. Additionally, the property houses 3,000 square feet of retail space and a parking garage. Golden Architects of Quincy, Perkins Eastman and Mark Boyes-Watson Architects collaboratively designed the project.
YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO — Washington Prime Group Inc. has unveiled plans to develop a four-acre athletic and entertainment venue to be named DeBartolo Commons at Southern Park Mall in Youngstown. The venue will be situated at the site of a former Sears department store. Demolition of the store has commenced. Washington Prime also plans to develop an additional entertainment area adjacent to DeBartolo Commons. Plans call for a 37,000-square-foot indoor golf center and new food and beverage offerings. Southern Park Mall was originally built by Edward J. DeBartolo Corp. in 1970.
SAN DIEGO — BioMed Realty, a Blackstone portfolio company, and the University of California San Diego (UC San Diego) have opened the Center for Novel Therapeutics (CNT) on the UC San Diego Science Research Park campus. The 137,000-square-foot research hub leverages the strength of UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center with private sector companies looking to translate research into helping cancer patients worldwide. The development represents a $92 million investment by BioMed Realty. CNT is San Diego’s newest dedicated oncology research center with best-in-class facilities to advance life-changing treatments for cancer patients. Additionally, the facility includes the first academic-industry drug discovery incubator site in San Diego. CNT will continue UC San Diego’s “bench to bedside” approach, the transition of research from the laboratory space into the clinic and to patients through the promotion of new therapies. BioMed Realty designed the project with UC San Diego to include high-efficiency water-cooled central cooling, LED energy efficient light fixtures and photo-voltaic solar panels in the roof of the atrium and other parts of the building. Due to the project’s design, the facility was awarded LEED Gold certification.
GLENDALE, ARIZ. — Arizona-based Banner Health has selected NexCore Group, a national healthcare real estate firm, to develop its newest multi-specialty health center. Situated on 17.5 acres within the Aspera mixed-use development in Glendale, Banner Health Center will feature 130,000 square feet of medical office space. The three-story facility will offer clinical services including family medicine, pediatrics, orthopedics, general surgery, dermatology, gastroenterology, cardiology, endocrinology, internal medicine and OB/GYN, as well as lab, pharmacy and imaging services. Groundbreaking is slated for January, with a grand opening scheduled for early 2021.
CINCINNATI — Kroger Co. is set to open a downtown Cincinnati store on Wednesday, Sept. 25. This is the first downtown store in a half-century for the Cincinnati-based grocer, according to the Cincinnati Business Courier. The new store is located at the corner of Court and Walnut streets, across from the company’s headquarters. The 45,000-square-foot, two-story store will include five restaurants within a food hall. It will be known as Kroger on the Rhine, replacing an existing Kroger store in the Over-the-Rhine district. Besides the Kroger store, the 18-story building comprises a 139-unit apartment complex known as 1010 on the Rhine.
HOUSTON — A partnership between MetroNational and Slate Real Estate Partners has completed The McAdams, a 333-unit apartment community located in the Memorial City area of Houston. The property offers a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units ranging in size from 563 to 1,821 square feet and features custom cabinetry and stainless steel appliances. Amenities include a rooftop pool, resident lounge, fitness center, a game room and a pet park. Rents at The McAdams range from $1,515 to $4,865 for a three-bedroom unit, according to The Houston Chronicle.
PHILADELPHIA — Pearl Properties has completed development of The Harper, a 183-unit mixed use building in Philadelphia. The 280,000-square-foot property includes office and retail space, as well as a ground-floor restaurant, co-working lounges and a fitness center with an indoor basketball court. An outdoor rooftop area features a heated pool, lounge and grilling area. DAS Architects designed the building.
NEW YORK CITY and KING OF PRUSSIA, PA. — The Escape Game has selected Sachse Construction to build two new concepts in a project totaling approximately $4.5 million. One concept will be located in New York City and the other in King of Prussia, a northwestern suburb of Philadelphia. The Escape Game is a popular interactive puzzle game with national locations, and construction will include movie-like sets. The construction timeline was undisclosed.
