MORGANTOWN, PA. — Penn National Gaming Inc., an owner-operator of gaming and racing facilities, has received licensing approval from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board and will soon begin construction on a $111 million casino in Morgantown. The property will be built on 36 acres at the intersection of I-76, I-176 and State Route 10 and located roughly midway between Philadelphia and Harrisburg. The casino will span 80,000 square feet and offer 750 slot machines and 30 game tables, a sports book, restaurant, food hall and entertainment lounge. The project, which carries an 18-month construction schedule, is expected to create 250 new jobs at the casino and 275 construction jobs.

CHICAGO — Skender has completed construction of Chicago’s newest Hyatt House extended-stay hotel. The 14-story, 167,000-square-foot property is located in the heart of Chicago’s Fulton Market neighborhood at 105 N. May St. Amenities include an indoor pool, bar and lounge and green roof features. The hotel also includes a third-floor lobby and first-floor retail space. The pool, workout center and lounge are situated on the 14th floor. The 200 guest rooms are on floors four through 13. Sterling Bay developed the hotel. Eckenhoff Saunders Architects served as the project architect.

MONROE, OHIO — The Kroger Co. and Ocado, a dedicated online grocery retailer, have broken ground on their first customer fulfillment center. Cincinnati-based Kroger is investing $55 million to build the property, which will be situated in the southwest Ohio city of Monroe. The automated warehouse facility will have digital and robotic capabilities and will span 335,000 square feet. The model will be replicated in other locations, as Kroger plans to build 20 such facilities. To date, two additional sites have been selected in the central Florida and Mid-Atlantic regions. The Ohio facility is expected to generate more than 400 new jobs. Ryan Cos. US Inc. is designing and building the property. In May 2018, Kroger and UK-based Ocado announced their partnership in order to provide online ordering, automated fulfillment and home delivery capabilities.

FRANKLIN, TENN. — Dallas-based KDC has partnered with SouthStar and Chartwell Hospitality to develop a 750,000-square-foot office building within Aureum, a mixed-use development in Franklin. KDC will develop Aureum’s office component, SouthStar will develop 100,000 square feet of retail space, Chartwell Hospitality is developing three hotels totaling 700 rooms and SouthStar and Chartwell will co-develop a 480-unit residential community. Aureum, which is Latin for “golden,” will span 22 acres in Franklin’s Cool Springs area, about 18 miles south of downtown Nashville. KDC is expected to break ground on the office building in early 2020.

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, ILL. — CA Ventures has acquired an 8.3-acre site at 550 Devon Ave. in Elk Grove Village for an undisclosed price. The acquired site includes a 20,000-square-foot retail building that CA Ventures intends to reduce in size and modernize. The developer also plans to build a 142,000-square-foot speculative industrial building on the remainder of the land. Tom Rodeno and Jonathon Kohn of Colliers International represented the seller, Terry Bolger. The team also represented the buyer. This is the first foray into the Chicago industrial real estate market for CA Ventures.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA — Healthcare real estate developer NexCore Group has opened the 37,800-square-foot CHI Health Clinic Valley View in Council Bluffs. A ribbon cutting ceremony took place on Thursday, May 30, and the facility opened to patients on Monday, June 3. Services provided at the 60-room clinic include behavioral health, women’s services, pediatrics, urology, dermatology, diabetic education, radiology, ultrasounds and physical therapy. Darland Construction Co. served as general contractor.

RUSTON, LA. — Hutton has opened Ruston Marketplace, a 103,413-square-foot shopping center in Ruston. The property’s tenants include Hobby Lobby, T.J. Maxx, Ulta Beauty, Five Below and Rack Room Shoes. Ruston Marketplace is situated off of Interstate 20, one mile from Louisiana Tech University. Hutton partnered with the City of Ruston to deliver the project. According to multiple media outlets, the City of Ruston paid $6.4 million to improve the infrastructure around the shopping center to make it more accessible to shoppers.

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. — Haven Campus Communities is set to break ground on Haven17, a 702-bed student housing community located near Florida State University in Tallahassee. The development, set to open in fall 2021, will be located within walking distance of the university’s main campus and athletic facilities. The property will offer fully furnished two- and four-bedroom units with bed-to-bath parity. Community amenities will include smart thermostats, smart ceiling fans and an Amazon Echo in each unit; a cyber lounge with charging stations; a coffee bar; fitness center; yoga studio; tanning room; sauna; gaming area; private study areas; a computer center; package lockers; a smart market; a swimming pool with a sundeck featuring built-in grilling stations, a putting green, hammock garden, cornhole and ping pong; and fire pits.

SACRAMENTO, CALIF. — A public-private partnership between University Enterprises Inc. — California State University, Sacramento’s (CSUS) commercial services auxiliary — and Greystar has broken ground on Hornet Commons, a 365,000-square-foot residence complex. The 1,100-bed development will feature six four-story buildings. Shared amenities will include a swimming pool, café, fitness center and a community room. Delivery is slated for fall 2021 The development team includes Sundt Construction Inc. and architectural firm Steinberg Hart.

ANCHORAGE — Columbia Sussex has completed a multi-million-dollar renovation at Hilton Anchorage, located at 500 W. Third Ave. in downtown Anchorage. The project included upgrades to the lobby, dining establishments, guest rooms, fitness center and conference spaces. The renovated guestrooms include work stations with desk-level electrical outlets and high-speed internet access, The Bed by Hilton bedding systems, Hilton alarm clock radios with MP3 Player plug-ins, Cuisinart single-serve/dual-cup coffee makers, back-lit vanities, full-length mirrors, showers with rain showerhead fixtures and 49-inch televisions. The hotel also features 11 suites and more than 50 Club Level executive rooms. Hotel amenities include a fitness center, indoor pool, hot tub, Kaladi Brothers Coffee, Hooper Bay Café, Bruins Bar and 23,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space. Crestview Hills, Ky.-based Columbia Sussex has owned and managed the hotel since 2006.
