COLUMBIA, S.C. — Landmark Properties has acquired a 67-acre development site located near the University of South Carolina campus in Columbia. Landmark plans to construct an 826-bed cottage-style student housing community at the site. The community will offer fully furnished units in two- through six-bedroom floor plans. Landmark will begin construction imminently and plans to deliver the project in August 2026.  Units will be wired for high-speed internet and will feature hardwood-style laminate floors, quartz countertops, stainless-steel appliances and full-sized washers and dryers. Community amenities will include an outdoor pool complex with a sun deck, cabanas, hammocks, a Jumbotron and outdoor grilling stations; a sand volleyball court; sports simulator; fire pits; a 24-hour fitness center; study spaces; and a computer lab. Residents will also have access to a complimentary shuttle service for commuting to and from the University of South Carolina campus and downtown Columbia. Landmark Cottage Construction, the company’s in-house general contractor, will manage construction of the project. BAYONNE, N.J. — An entity doing business as Togus Urban Renewal LLC will develop 1888 Studios, a 1.5 million-square-foot film and TV production campus in the Northern New Jersey community of Bayonne. The 58-acre project will ultimately feature 17 buildings, 23 sound stages ranging in size from 18,000 to 60,000 square feet and 350,000 square feet of production support space. The development will also include office, storage and amenity space, as well as a parking garage and a five-acre public green space. Construction is expected to be complete by late 2026. The New Jersey Economic Development Authority provided an unspecified amount of tax credit equity to help finance the project.

Arbella-at-Bramble-Hill-Worcester

WORCESTER, MASS. — The United Group of Cos. Inc. has broken ground on The Arbella at Bramble Hill, a 123-unit active adult project that will be located in the central Massachusetts community of Worcester. The property will span 17 acres and offer one- and two-bedroom apartments across three buildings. The community will also feature an 8,500-square-foot clubhouse. JLL arranged a $35 million construction loan through The Washington Trust Co. for the project, which is scheduled for a spring 2025 completion.

CHICAGO — Summit Design + Build has completed an adaptive reuse project for Burdeen’s Jewelry at 120 E. Oak St. in Chicago’s Gold Coast as well as interior renovations to the existing Burdeen’s Jewelry store at 11 E. Walton St. at the base of the Waldorf Astoria. The 120 E. Oak St. project consisted of the interior build-out for Burdeen’s as well as two luxury flagship stores situated on either side. The two-story luxury jewelry store totals more than 10,000 square feet and shares an outer structure with Panerai and IWC. Project highlights include a watchmaking studio, transparent glass floor and large skylight. The location marks Burdeen’s fourth in the Chicago area. Hirsch MPG served as the architect. The renovated space at 11 E. Walton St. features individual luxury brand spaces for Jaeger-LeCoultre, Roger Dubuis and Piaget. Dunne Kozlowski was the architect.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Constellation Real Estate Partners has acquired 41.4 acres of land in Charlotte, with plans to develop a speculative industrial building at the site. Upon completion, the property, dubbed Constellation 485 South, will total 374,220 square feet. The rear-load building will feature 36-foot clear heights, trailer parking, ESFR sprinkler systems and LED lighting. ARCO Design/Build designed the development, which will accommodate tenant occupancies ranging from 100,000 to 374,000 square feet. Construction is scheduled to begin in July and expected to be completed in August 2025. Henry Lobb, Abby Rights and Garrott Braswell of Avison Young will manage marketing and leasing for the project, with Chris Skibinski of Avison Young providing capital markets strategic advisory services.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — McShane Construction Co. has completed The Kendry, a 300-unit apartment community situated on 28 acres in Charlotte, on behalf of developer RangeWater Real Estate. Poole & Poole Architecture designed the development, which features 10,000 square feet of amenity space. Amenities at the property, which is positioned near the University of North Carolina at Charlotte campus, include a swimming pool, two courtyards with firepits, a dog park, fitness center, craft and game room, and workspace.

ALEXANDRIA, LA. — Wisconsin-based retail chain Batteries Plus has signed a six-unit franchise agreement in Louisiana. The first of the stores is scheduled to open in Alexandria this year, with additional locations planned throughout the state. Franchisees Duane Carmouche, Mitch Matthews and Mohamad Zeidan will own and operate the units. Batteries Plus’ current portfolio features more than 800 stores in the U.S., including 10 in Louisiana. Private equity firm Freeman Spogli owns the brand, which offers battery and repair services for a variety of electronics and vehicle uses.

Schrader-Farms-Biz-Chandler-AZ

CHANDLER, ARIZ. — Ryan Cos. US has received financing and started construction of Schrader Farms Business Park, located at the northwest corner of Queen Creek and McQueen roads in Chandler. Totaling 432,000 square feet, the three buildings will each feature a privately secured yard, 32-foot clear heights, LED site lighting, air-conditioned warehouse, an ESFR sprinkler system and ample vehicle and trailer parking. Completion is slated for third-quarter 2025. Ryan Cos. is the developer and builder. Deutsche Architecture Group is the architect of record.

SAN DIEGO — San Diego-based Jack in the Box has announced plans to open 15 restaurants in Georgia, marking the first entry into the state for the fast-casual brand. According to a press release from the company, the new sites have not yet been selected, but plans include a focus on the Macon, Augusta and Savannah markets. A franchisee will own and operate the restaurants. Jack in the Box also recently announced a commitment to 30 new locations in Florida.

ATHENS, GA. — Landmark Properties has neared completion of City Food Hall within 19,681 square feet of retail space at The Mark Athens, a student housing development by Landmark Properties near the University of Georgia campus. The food hall will feature 10 chef-driven food concepts, a full-service bar, two state-of-the-art golf simulators and a variety of interactive games. The location is expected to open in fall 2025. Whitney Spangler and David Martos of Colliers International represented Landmark Properties, and Jason Hurst of Colliers International — who has since joined the team at CBRE — represented City Food Hall in the leasing transaction. The Mark Athens was developed in phases in 2017 and 2022. The community offers 1,364 beds of student housing; over 50,000 square feet of retail space; and 46,427 square feet of office space, which is 92 percent occupied by Landmark Properties’ corporate headquarters.
