NEW YORK CITY — Wegmans Food Market has announced plans to open an 87,500-square-foot store at 770 Broadway in Manhattan’s East Village neighborhood. The market, dubbed Wegmans Astor Place, will be located at the base of an office building that Vornado Realty Trust owns. Meta, formerly known as Facebook, occupies the office portion of the property. The store, which is set to open on Oct. 18, will offer made-to-order and packaged foods; ready-to-eat and ready-to-heat options, including a selection of entrees and sides for individuals and families; and a ‘restaurant foods’ section with fresh sushi, salads, sandwiches, soups, pizza and wings.  The location will also include an onsite dining room with sushi and oyster bars, which are set to open in early 2024. This store will be Wegman’s second in New York City, following the opening of Wegmans Brooklyn in 2019. “We know our customers can’t wait to come see what we have in store and our employees have been training, in some cases, for over a year to get ready for this day,” says Matt Dailor, the new store’s manager. “Wegmans is a celebration of food and people, and we can’t wait to open the doors on October 18 …

LAREDO, TEXAS — Kansas City-based VanTrust Real Estate will develop a 432,000-square-foot industrial project in the Rio Grande Valley city of Laredo. The speculative structure will be located within North Laredo Industrial Park, which is adjacent to I-35 and the Port of Laredo. Completion of the project, which is expected to be the first of multiple buildings that VanTrust will add to the park, is slated for October 2024. White Ark Enterprises owns North Laredo Industrial Park.

GARDEN GROVE, CALIF. — Driver SPG, a division of C.W. Driver Companies, has started construction of the St. Callistus Chapel and Crypts, a new worship space located underneath Christ Cathedral in Garden Grove.  The $14.5 million chapel, designed in a modern Byzantine architectural style, will feature sacred art from Granda of Madrid, Spain, and will accommodate 220 people with a marble altar for masses and devotional shrines on each side.  The project is scheduled for completion by summer 2024. It will include hundreds of niches and burial spaces for generations of Diocese of Orange bishops.

AURORA, ILL. — Focus, in collaboration with development partner Atlantic Residential and property owner Centennial, has begun the second phase of redevelopment at Fox Valley shopping center in Aurora. This phase includes a 323-unit luxury apartment community as well as a 212-unit seniors housing development, each expected to be completed by fall 2025. In June, Focus completed Lumen, a 304-unit luxury apartment community now being leased at Fox Valley. Being constructed on the site of a former Carson’s store, Phase II will feature apartments with unique amenities such as an outdoor coworking space. The senior living component will offer independent living, assisted living and memory care services. Announcements regarding retail, entertainment and restaurant tenants will be made closer to the completion of Phase II.

WESTFIELD, IND. — Developer Mia Rose Holdings has broken ground on Chatham Hills Luxury Living, a 250-unit apartment complex in Westfield, a far north suburb of Indianapolis. The development will feature 124 one-bedroom units, 114 two-bedroom units and 12 three-bedroom apartments across eight buildings. The project will be situated within the Chatham Hills planned residential and recreational development. The community will provide access to a nature trail and lake recreation as well as feature amenities such as a pool, golf simulator, fitness facility and pickleball courts. Completion is slated for August 2024. The project team includes Rosemann & Associates as architect, Midas Construction as general contractor, V3 Cos. as civil engineer and Engenuity as the mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineer.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Wood Partners and GTIS Partners have completed the development of Alta West Morehead, a 308-unit apartment community located in Uptown Charlotte. The joint venture announced the project in September 2021. Located at 2020 W. Morehead St., the community features apartments in studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom layouts. Amenities at the property include a pool, pet spa and a clubhouse with a fitness center, coworking space, lounge and game room. Monthly rents begin at $1,560, according to the community website. Wood Residential, an affiliate of Wood Partners, manages the property.

ANDERSON, S.C. — Kansas City-based Hunt Midwest has completed the construction of a speculative industrial building located within Evergreen Logistics Park at I-85 in Anderson. Located at 1105 Scotts Bridge Road, Evergreen Logistics I totals 258,801 square feet and features 32-foot clear heights, 26 dock positions, 32 additional knock outs with capacity for expansion to 48, 60-foot-deep staging bays, LED lighting, an ESFR sprinkler system and speculative office space. The property also includes a 185-foot-deep truck court with 77 trailer parking stalls and 200 vehicle parking spaces. This marks Hunt Midwest’s second industrial project in the Greenville-Spartanburg industrial corridor, following the development of Fort Prince Logistics Center in Lyman, S.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Arctaris Impact Investors LLC has completed Phase I of Northeast Heights, a six-story, 281,000-square-foot office building in Ward 7 of Washington, D.C. The office building is located in a Qualified Opportunity Zone, which is an economically distressed area where new investments may be eligible for preferential tax treatment. The office building is the first phase of a three-phase, $600 million effort to revitalize Ward 7, according to Arctaris’ website. Future phases of Northeast Heights are expected to include a grocery store redevelopment, approximately 1,300 residential units and community spaces. According to Arctaris, the project was catalyzed by D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser’s mandate for city agencies to use the leasing power of the D.C. government to encourage economic development in historically underserved communities. Northeast Heights was pre-leased to the city’s Department of General Services and will serve as the new headquarters for the agency, which employs approximately 700 people. LOS ANGELES — JLL has arranged an undisclosed amount of financing for USC Expo, a 260-bed student housing development located near the University of Southern California campus in Los Angeles.  Greg Brown and Zane Sweet of JLL worked on behalf of the borrower, Mosaic Investment Partners, to secure both joint-venture equity and mezzanine financing from HC2 Capital, as well as a senior construction facility from Calmwater Capital.  The seven-story community is scheduled for completion in spring 2025 and will offer fully furnished studio, one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom units. Shared amenities will include a rooftop swimming pool, second-floor amenity deck, fitness center, computer room and dog park.
