SEBRING, FLA. — Fort Myers, Fla.-based Stevens Construction has broken ground on the 33,636-square-foot Bud and Donna Somers Hospice House and Resource Center at 1110 Hammock Road in Sebring. The 16-bed facility is being built for Good Shepherd Hospice. Features include a children's recreation area, a kitchen, a chapel and a library. Delivery is expected early next year.

BEACHWOOD, OHIO — Grubb & Ellis Healthcare REIT II has entered into an agreement to acquire Parkway Medical Center, a two-building medical office campus in Beachwood. Located at 3609 and 3619 Park East Drive, the campus features a 51,000-square-foot building, which was built in 1972, and a 37,000-square-foot building that was constructed in 1987. Since 2004, approximately $1.6 million of capital improvements have been completed at the center. The facility is currently 87 percent leased to 35 tenants, including University Hospital of Cleveland, Rapid Medical Research, The MetroHealth System and ID Consultants. The seller and acquisition price were not disclosed.

IRVING, TEXAS — The Minimally Invasive Spine Institute (MISI) has opened a 7,000-square-foot facility located on MacArthur Boulevard in Irving's Las Colinas neighborhood. The facility is the first of two facilities MISI plans to open in the Dallas area. The second facility will open on North Central Expressway in Dallas this fall. Dallas-based Clarity Development assisted MISI with the development of the facility. Holtman Design provided interior design services and Highland Builders was the general contractor.

WARM SPRINGS, GA. — Batson-Cook and Cooper Carry are planning a 72,000-square-foot residence hall at The Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation in Warm Springs. When completed, the project will house 150 beds for patients with disabilities in 72 rooms. Additional features include classrooms, a café, lounges, a nurse's station and a library.

WOODSTOCK, GA. — McWhirter Realty Partners began construction February 1 on a 33,000-square-foot office building for Pinnacle Orthopaedics. The $7 million property is located on a 4-acre site on Towne Lake Parkway in Woodstock. Building features include an MRI suite, clinic space and an ambulatory surgery center. Delivery is expected this fall.

SANTA MONICA, CALIF. — Madison Partners has negotiated a new 30-year, 50,000-square-foot lease of medical office space for the Regents of the University of California in a three-story, build-to-suit building due to break ground this quarter. Located at 1223 16th St. in Santa Monica, the new medical facility will be directly across the street from the Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopedic Hospital. Madison Partners’ Gary Weiss represented the landlord/developer, Sixteenth Street Medical Center LP, in the transaction. The lease term will begin in 2011, when construction of the Michael W. Folonis Architects-designed facility is slated for completion.

FORT MYERS, FLA. — Stevens Construction will break ground this spring on the 10,440-square-foot Collins Vision Center in Fort Myers. The property will be located at 6900 International Blvd. and will include eight exam rooms, two orbital scan rooms, a reception area and offices. The project, designed by Christopher Lee Architects, is slated to deliver late this year.

LOCKPORT, ILL. — Meridian Design Build has been selected by MedProperties Group to construct a medical office space build-out at the recently completed 54,000-square-foot Lockport Crossings Medical Center in Lockport. The build-out will include 10 exam rooms, private restrooms, shared waiting/reception areas and lockable file storage. Areté 3 Ltd. is providing design services for the project.

NEW YORK CITY — NAI Friedland Realty has completed the sale of the former Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center located at 4217 Vireo Ave. in the Bronx, New York City, for $4.5 million. The 34,500-square-foot building contains a two-story office component and a single-story warehouse component. The buyer, Christ Alive Christian Center, plans to initially occupy 20,000 square feet of the building and will lease out the remaining space. Rick Stassa of NAI represented Christ Alive as well as the seller, Glastonbury Capital Partners, which is the secured creditor of Our Lady of Mercy, which is currently in bankruptcy.
