CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Mumford Co. has arranged the sale of the Super 8 Motel located in Charles City. David Mumford and Ed James of Mumford Co.’s Newport News, Va., office and Lance Potter of the firm’s Chicago office represented the seller, Supertel Hospitality. The property was acquired by HR Corporation of Iowa for an undisclosed amount. This transaction marks the 28th hotel sold by Mumford Co. on behalf of Supertel in the past 10 years, as well as the third hotel that Mumford has sold to the principals of HR Corp.

HOUSTON — HREC Investment Advisors has arranged the sale of the Hampton Inn & Suites Cypress Station, a 74-room hotel located in Houston. The property was acquired by an out-of-state owner/operator from a Houston-based developer. The buyer also acquired an land parcel adjacent to the Hampton Inn for a future hotel development. The acquisition price was not disclosed.
BRUNSWICK, GA. — Atlanta-based Hotel Equities has opened the 97-room Hampton Inn & Suites-Brunswick. The property is located at 128 Venture Dr. in Brunswick. The hotel features an indoor pool and an exercise room. Amenities include free high-speed Internet, and each guest room is equipped with a flat-screen TV.
HOMEWOOD, ALA. — Construction will commence on a 94-room Homewood Suites by Hilton in the next year, with an eye toward completion in 2011. The property will be located at the intersection of Interstate 65 and Lakeshore Drive in Homewood. The property will feature a fitness center, an outdoor pool and 1,000 square feet of meeting space. When complete, the hotel will be the ninth Homewood Suites in Alabama.
MARTINSVILLE, VA. — Innkeeper of Martinsville has sold a 70-room Holiday Inn Express to Philadelphia-based Martinsville Hospitality for an undisclosed price. The 33,000-square-foot property is located near the Martinsville International Raceway in Martinsville. The hotel features an outdoor pool and a sundeck. The buyer plans to reposition the hotel as a Comfort Inn and renovate the property. Anthony A. Falor of Atlanta-based Hodges Ward Elliott represented the seller in the transaction, and Martinsville Hospitality was represented internally.
DALLAS — Coppell Beer & Wine Inc. has acquired a 1.45-acre land parcel, located at 3203 Kirnwood St. in Dallas, for the construction of a new Sleep Inn & Suites hotel. The site is situated near a Walmart Supercenter and Wheatland Marketplace, a fully occupied retail center. Randall Chrisman of The Chrisman Company represented the buyer. Thad Beckner of locally based Henry S. Miller Brokerage represented the seller, Newcastle Plaza Associates LP. The construction timetable was not released.
CLARKSVILLE, TENN. — Silver Spring, Md.-based Choice Hotels International has opened a 93-unit MainStay Suites hotel in Clarksville. The property is located at 115 Fairbrook Place. The development, which was built using the MainStay Suites prototype design, is the company’s 100th extended-stay hotel.
SEALY, TEXAS — The grand opening has been held for the new Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites, located at 2370 Highway 36 South in Sealy. The hotel, which contains 70 rooms, is a new prototype hotel for the Holiday Inn brand. Amenities include an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness center and wireless Internet access. The hotel is owned by Al, Jay and Pat Patel. Holiday Inn is franchised by Atlanta-based InterContinental Hotels Group.
CHICAGO — Leopardo Construction has completed a multi-million dollar renovation of the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel, located on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. Construction for the 14-story hotel included renovations to all 305 guestrooms, as well as common areas. The builder used a phased construction schedule that allowed the hotel to remain open throughout the project. Leopardo also recently completed a modernization of the lobby and wine room of the Fairmont Chicago Hotel, also located in Chicago.
HOUSTON — White Plains, N.Y.-based Starwood Hotels & Resorts has held the grand opening for Element Houston Vintage Park, a 123-room hotel located in Houston. The hotel gives guests the ability to customize their rooms with multi-purpose, modular furniture, swiveling flat-screen televisions, large desks with open shelving and custom-designed closets. Rooms also feature fully equipped kitchens. Hotel amenities include a lobby with a multi-story window wall, an outdoor fire pit and barbecue, free wireless Internet access, a fitness center, a pool, a technology center with a library and 456 square feet of meeting space. The project is seeking LEED certification. It is situated within Vintage Park, an 84-acre lifestyle center located at the intersection of Louetta Road and State Highway 249. It is also the first Element hotel to open in Texas. It is owned by Condor Hospitality and managed by Louisiana-based InterMountain Management. The general contractor for the build was Dallas-based Benchmark Development Corp.
