BIRMINGHAM, ALA. AND COLUMBUS, GA. — BCDC and Adevco have broken ground on two Extra Space Storage facilities, one in Birmingham and one in Columbus. The property in Birmingham will feature 732 climate-controlled units across 100,050 square feet. The building will be located at 2864 Acton Road, eight miles south of downtown Birmingham. Great Southern Bank provided construction financing for the three-story building, which is scheduled for delivery in September 2020. The Extra Space in Columbus will offer 780 units in a 100,080-square-foot building located at 7350 Blackmon Road, 13 miles northeast of downtown Columbus. Georgia’s Own Credit Union provided construction financing for the facility, which is slated for completion in summer 2020.

CANTON, GA. — Bright-Meyers-Sasser Storage 1 (BMS Storage) has opened Canton Storage, a 66,608-square-foot, 583-unit facility in Canton. The property is located at 150 Reinhardt College Parkway, seven miles from Reinhardt University and three miles from Chattahoochee Technical College. Absolute Storage Management will provide management services.

TYLER, TEXAS — Marcus & Millichap has brokered the sale of a 733-unit portfolio of self-storage facilities located in and around Tyler, about 100 miles east of Dallas. The portfolio spans 103,582 net rentable square feet. Dave Knobler, Brandon Karr and Danny Cunningham of Marcus & Millichap represented the seller, a private investor, in the transaction. The trio also secured the buyer, a DFW-based owner-operator.

HILLSBOROUGH, N.J. — A joint venture between The Hampshire Companies and Harrison Street Real Estate Capital has broken ground on a 903-unit self-storage facility in Hillsborough, located approximately 20 miles north of Trenton. The 120,524-square-foot property is located at 141 US Highway 206. Extra Space Storage will manage the facility upon completion of construction, which is slated for early 2020.

WILLIS, TEXAS — Marcus & Millichap has brokered the sale of Oversized Storage, a 155-unit self-storage facility in Willis, located about 40 miles north of Houston. The property is situated on 5.7 acres and spans 61,520 net rentable square feet. Dave Knobler of Marcus & Millichap represented the seller, a private investor, in the transaction. The buyer and sales price were not disclosed.

IRVINE, CALIF. — Irvine-based Talonvest Capital Inc. has secured two refinancing loans totaling $123.3 million on behalf of Metro Self Storage. Lake Forest, Ill.-based Metro Self Storage will use the loan proceeds to refinance existing debt on eight properties in Georgia, 12 properties in Florida and two properties in Illinois. The portfolio totals more than 1.5 million square feet of rentable space. The two non-recourse loans feature a fixed 3.2 percent interest rate and 10 years of interest-only payments. An undisclosed national bank provided the funds.

NEW YORK — National self-storage investment firm Clutter has purchased The Storage Fox, a smaller self-storage firm based in New York, acquiring four-property self-storage portfolio in for $152 million. The acquisition included 5,240 storage units across four properties located at 5601 Foster Ave. in Brooklyn; 3046 Northern Blvd. in Long Island City; 1 Holland Ave. in White Plains; and 280 Fullerton Ave. in Yonkers. Combined, the properties comprise approximately 500,000 square feet with a rentable area of 320,000 square feet.

NAPLES, FLA. — SkyView Advisors has arranged the sale of a 1,001-unit self-storage facility in Naples. The 99,713-square-foot property is located on 4.3 acres at 3807 White Lake Blvd. Cameron Vale and Ryan Clark of SkyView Advisors represented the undisclosed seller in the transaction. Public Self Storage acquired the facility for an undisclosed price.

FORT WORTH, TEXAS — Marcus & Millichap has arranged the sale of A Plus Boat Club, a 209-unit self-storage facility in Fort Worth. Built in 1990, the property spans 60,856 net rentable square feet and features non-climate-controlled units ranging in size from 200 to 352 square feet. Brandon Karr and Danny Cunningham of Marcus & Millichap represented the seller, a locally based partnership, in the transaction. The duo also procured the buyer, Spartan Investment Group, a self-storage owner-operator based in Denver.

KUNA, IDAHO — Marcus & Millichap’s LeClaire Group has arranged the sale of Kuna Self Storage, a self-storage facility in Kuna, a suburb of Boise. Messmer Properties sold the asset to an undisclosed buyer. The acquisition price was not released. Kuna Self Storage features 166 non-climate-controlled units, 15 rentable outdoor parking spaces, a fully fenced storage area and an on-site manager’s office. Jordan Farrer of Marcus & Millichap’s Salt Lake City office and Adam Schlosser of the firm’s Denver office, in cooperation with Paul Ryan of Marcus & Millichap’s Boise office, represented the seller in the deal.
