State government teams and representatives from military branches, tribal nations, private business, veterans’ organizations and additional public and private entities are helping to shape the content. The gallery will connect to the ND Heritage Center & State Museum on its south side. The project will offer two floors of immersive exhibits and engaging experiences that tell stories of the state’s military history from early Native American practices before statehood to today. Designed by Zerr Berg Architects and BWBR Architects, the 67,000-square-foot project features a 20,000-square-foot military gallery plus ample space for large events, a North Dakota National Guard Regimental room, expanded food service and an outdoor courtyard and amphitheater. Completion is slated for fall 2027.

The new project will replace an older affordable housing community on the same lot. Once the tallest building in Fargo, the previous 22-story property lost its efficiency, was vacated and demolished by implosion in September 2023. The new development will feature four upper levels of affordable housing and a ground floor with commercial space. Amenities will include community rooms, lounges, a rooftop patio, exercise room and free laundry. As a fully Section 8 community, Lashkowitz Riverfront Apartments will serve families earning between 30 and 50 percent of the area median income. The unit breakdown includes 52 one-bedroom units, 36 two-bedroom units and 22 three-bedroom residences. The property will overlook the Red River in the middle of downtown Fargo, bordering the Minnesota state line. The deal was structured with 4 percent and 9 percent Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, with financing from the North Dakota Housing Finance Agency Housing Trust Fund and Fargo Housing Capital Fund. Completion is slated for December 2025.

Designed by Ackerman-Estvold, the 275,259-square-foot school features music and tech classrooms, gymnasiums and a kitchen and cafeteria. Outside, the school includes a turf field stadium with a track and grass practice fields. Construction on a pool and auditorium is slated for completion in December.

The research lab’s programs will also include plant pathology, plant breeding, weed science, agronomy, soil science and horticulture. Designed by JLG Architects and Clark & Enerson, the facility will include three 10,000-square-foot green houses; horticulture and plant science labs; seed coolers and freezers; seed drying line; and seed cleaning, processing and storage areas.
