CHICAGO — Laurus Corp. has completed a $7.6 million renovation of the 362-room Chicago Renaissance O’Hare Suites Hotel. The 15-story building features a restaurant and bar, Starbucks coffee shop, business center, fitness center, indoor heated pool, whirlpool spa, 13 conference suites, a 5,000-square-foot ballroom and approximately 21,500 square feet of meeting and event space. The hotel is located at 8500 W. Bryn Mawr Ave.

CHICAGO — Baum Realty Group LLC has brokered the sale of 24,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space at 1000 W. Washington Blvd. in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood for $7.2 million. A partnership between R2 and Marc Realty Capital acquired the property from a local developer. Existing tenants include French restaurant La Sardine and Subway. The property, which includes 10 parking spaces, has 18,000 square feet available for lease. Danny Spitz and Greg Dietz of Baum Realty represented the seller in the transaction, and Doug Renner and Trevor Jack of Baum Realty have been retained to market the property.
DETROIT — Wahlburgers has opened a new restaurant at 569 Monroe St. in Detroit’s Greektown neighborhood. The two-story, 4,200-square-foot burger joint includes a full bar and will serve lunch and dinner daily. This is the chain’s first location in Michigan, but there are plans for six more. Wahlburgers also has locations in Florida, Massachusetts, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania and Canada. Wahlburgers was founded by chef Paul Wahlburg, brother of celebrities Mark and Donnie Wahlburg, who are actors and singers. The trio star in the A&E reality TV show “Wahlburgers”.
CHICAGO — McShane Construction Co. has completed the 32,000-square-foot Arts and Recreation Center at Ellis Park. The two-story facility is located in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood and features a gymnasium, indoor swimming pool, fitness center, music and theater performance spaces, and additional spaces for art, education and community use. The building, located at 3520 S. Cottage Grove Ave., also includes a rooftop terrace. The Community Builders Inc. and Quad Communities Development Corp. were the project developers. Booth Hansen and NIA Architects Inc. provided design services.
WAUWATOSA, WIS. — Mid-America Real Estate Corp. has brokered the sale of a 69,749-square-foot shopping center in Wauwatosa, a western suburb of Milwaukee, for an undisclosed price. Newport Capital Partners purchased the Pick ’n Save Center from a joint venture between DRA Advisors LLC and RCG Ventures. The center is anchored by Pick ’n Save, and other tenants include Mattress Firm, Supercuts and Firehouse Subs. Ben Wineman and Dan Rosenfeld of Mid-America represented the seller in the transaction.
CHICAGO — JDL Development has opened 1000 South Clark, a 469-unit luxury apartment tower in Chicago’s South Loop neighborhood. The 29-story building boasts 43,000 square feet of amenity space that includes a 20,000-square-foot outdoor terrace with grilling stations; an indoor/outdoor pool and rooftop running track; a 10,000-square-foot fitness center; basketball and racquetball courts; a virtual golf simulator and putting area; a library lounge and wine bar; chef’s demonstration kitchen; a game room and billiards lounge; neighborhood bar room with customizable beer taps; news room and media lounge; and a board room with business center. The property also includes a four-story parking garage with space for 327 vehicles and a landscaped outdoor dog park and Bark on Clark, a full-service, privately run pet care and boarding facility. EAGAN, MINN. — Ryan Companies US Inc. has completed an expansion of the Minnesota Autism Center (MAC) in Eagan, approximately 20 miles south of Minneapolis. The new two-story, 50,000-square-foot school is located on 6.5 acres directly west of MAC’s existing school building. The new facility features a gymnasium, breakout spaces, a media center, green spaces, a track, baseball field, cafeteria and also provides room for an additional 150 students and 130 staff members. Slated to open this September, the school will offer education services and therapeutic support for children, adolescents, and families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders. RSP Architects the project designer, and Ryan Cos. provided development, civil engineering and construction services.
MINNEAPOLIS — Dougherty Mortgage LLC has closed a $6.2 million Fannie Mae loan to refinance a 31-unit apartment property in the Linden Hills neighborhood of Minneapolis. Elements of Linden Hills features tempered underground parking, a fitness center, bike storage and a pet wash room. Unit amenities include washers and dryers, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and gas stovetops. The 12-year loan features four years of interest-only payments and a 30-year amortization schedule. Linden Hills Apartments LLC was the borrower.
KANSAS CITY, MO. — MIRASON Properties LLC has begun renovations on the 40,200-square-foot Watts Mill Shopping Center in Kansas City. Located at the corner of 103rd Street and State Line Road, the shopping center features tenants such as Jasper’s Italian Restaurant, Ugly Joe’s Bar & Grill and Goodyear Tires. Updates to the center will include a new façade, architectural elements, LED lighting, landscaping, signage and a restriped parking lot. Block & Company Inc. oversees management and leasing for the property. The project is slated for completion this October.
YPSILANTI, MICH. — Colliers International has brokered the sale of a 6,230-square-foot retail building in Ypsilanti, approximately 10 miles southeast of Ann Arbor, for an undisclosed price. Norman and June MacArthur sold the property, which is located at 4864 Washtenaw Ave., to Majik Properties LLC. University Office Technologies currently occupies the building, and Majik Properties will lease the space once the company moves out this September. Jim Chaconas and Richard Timmons of Colliers International represented both the buyer and seller in the transaction.
