HOUSTON — Cadence McShane Construction Co. has completed upgrades and renovations to the 378,150-square-foot Willowridge High School for the Fort Bend Independent School District. Cadence McShane also built an additional 1,950 square feet of new space. The 30-year-old property is located at 16301 Chimney Rock in Houston. Renovations included work on the 1,000-seat auditorium, two gyms, four science labs, and band and dance facilities. A $428 million bond referendum funded the project.

BERKELEY, MO. — The City of Berkeley has selected St. Louis-based Kwame Building Group to construct the new Berkeley Municipal Complex in Berkeley. The company is overseeing the design and construction of a two-story, 29,500-square-foot city hall and a 17,200-square-foot fire station, as well as the renovation of an existing police station. The first phase of the project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011. St. Louis-based ArchImage is providing architectural services for the project.

OKAWVILLE, ILL. — West Washington County Community Unit District #10 has selected Swansea, Ill.-based Holland Construction Services to construct its new $29 million kindergarten through 12th grade school in Okawville. The 166,000-square-foot project will be completed in two phases, with first phase move-in expected in December 2011. The first phase includes the upper-grade wing, a cafeteria, a multi-purpose area, offices and a new gymnasium for the upper grades. The high school area features 12 classrooms, a band room, a computer lab and a stand-alone agricultural building for shop classes. The junior high area features five classrooms, art and music rooms and a computer lab. The second phase includes the demolition of the existing school and construction of the kindergarten through sixth wing. The second phase will feature 18 classrooms, art and music rooms, a computer lab and a new library. Construction of the second phase is expected to begin in January 2012.

RIVERSIDE, CALIF. — The $15 million renovation of the University of California Riverside’s 58,546-square-foot Geology building has been completed. Done in multiple phases during the past 3 years while research and experiments remained active in the building, the academic facility received upgrades to building systems, infrastructure and seismic enhancements. Barnhart Balfour Beatty performed the renovation/construction tasks, and WWCOT Architecture provided architecture and engineering services.

MURPHY, TEXAS — Cadence McShane Construction Co. is gearing up to break ground on the 282,000-square-foot McMillen High School for the Plano Independent School District. The $37 million property will be located on 103 acres at 750 N. Murphy Road in Murphy. McMillen High School will encompass band and music spaces, 10 science labs, a gym, a library, a full-service cafeteria and classrooms. SHW Group designed the project. McMillen High School will be open in time for the 2011-2012 school year.

KENNESAW, GA. — Atlanta-based Choate Construction Co. is eyeing a spring completion of a $16.5 million soccer stadium on the campus of Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw. Features include locker rooms, administrative offices and stadium seating for 8,300 spectators. The property, which was designed by the architecture firm Rossetti, is part of the second phase of the university's Sports & Recreation Park, an 88-acre project that will feature additional soccer fields, a rugby field and hiking trails. The Atlanta Beat, a women's professional soccer team is expected to lease the stadium this spring.

AVE MARIA, FLA. — Fort Myers, Fla.-based J.L. Wallace is planning a groundbreaking for the 38,107-square-foot Tom Golisano Field House on the campus of Ave Maria University in Ave Maria. The property will include an NCAA-regulation basketball court, training and weight rooms, dressing rooms, offices, and a conference room. Jason P. Tramonte Architect designed the project.

MINOT, N.D., AND ARDEN HILLS AND MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. — Graham Construction Services has been awarded three construction contracts totaling $33.5 million. The first project will consist of a two-building, three-story dormitory for Minot Air Force Base in Minot. The $18.8 million project will provide housing for 168 people. Groundbreaking will occur in April, and completion is expected in August 2011. Spokane, Wash.-based ALSC Architects is the project architect. The second project is a 90,000-square-foot Arden Hills Army Training Readiness Center that is being built in Arden Hills in a joint venture with Holte. The $11.1 million project will break ground in April and will be complete in January 2011. The final project is a $3.6 million Landcare Facility for the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities in Minneapolis. Situated at 2613 4th St., the project will include a two-story, 20,000-square-foot building and a 14,000-square-foot, fenced yard. Completion is expected in July 2010. The project architect is Minneapolis-based DLR Group.

BALTIMORE — The Mullan Contracting Co. has completed a $3 million expansion of the Harford County Public Library's Whiteford Branch. The property, located at 2407 Whiteford Road in Baltimore, is now 13,278 square feet, twice its original size. New features include a 1,000-square-foot meeting room, a children's play theater, a storm water management system and a new HVAC system. Bel Air, Md.-based Edmeades & Stromdahl. Ltd. designed the project, which took 1 year to complete.
