SUMMERFIELD, FLA. — Edwards Construction Services has broken ground on an 18,000-square-foot Trinity Lutheran Church in Summerfield. The property will feature a sanctuary and additional areas for classrooms and choir space. Delivery is slated for December.
SAN MATEO, CALIF. — McCarthy Building Cos. has completed construction of College of San Mateo’s (CSM) new 88,000-square-foot Health and Wellness Building. Designed by Kwan Henmi Architecture/Planning, the three-story facility will house the cosmetology, nursing and dental-assisting programs, as well as the San Mateo Athletic Club and Aquatic Center. Located prominently at the main entrance of the CSM campus, the Health and Wellness Building is on track to achieve LEED-Silver certification. McCarthy completed the facility in 15 months, 2 months ahead of schedule.
BELMONT, MASS. — Skanska USA has been selected to construct the new Wellington Elementary School in Belmont. The $29 million project will include the demolition of the existing school and the construction of a new one, which will consist of two buildings connected by a one-story core. The project is being designed to meet Massachusetts High-Performance Green School Criteria, with sustainability features that include a geothermal HVAC system, high-efficiency mechanical systems and increased use of daylighting. Demolition of the existing school is already under way, and completion of the entire project is expected in July 2011. Jonathan Levi Architects is the lead architect for the project, and Burt Hill is the associated architect.
TOWSON, MD. — The Mullan Contracting Co. is working toward a late summer/early fall completion of a fourth-floor renovation at the Baltimore County Courts Building. The property is located at 401 Bosley Ave. in Towson. Rubeling & Associates designed the 20,700-square-foot project, which includes four new hearing rooms, three courtrooms, judges' chambers, office space and holding cells.
SELLS, ARIZ. — Kraus-Anderson Construction Co. has completed the $2.5 million San Simon Elementary School renovation/upgrade project near Sells, west of Tucson. The 38,867-square-foot San Simon School serves American Indian students from kindergarten through 8th grade in the Indian Oasis-Baboquivari Unified District. Construction on the project began on December 14, 2009.
TAYLOR, TEXAS — The City of Taylor Park Foundation will hold a ribbon cutting on Saturday for a 74.86-acre park and athletic complex. The park is located at 210 N. Carlos G. Parker Blvd. in Taylor. The property, which was purchased from Williamson County in 2005, features athletic fields, concession areas, restrooms and a nature area.
MATTESON, ILL. — Leopardo, serving as construction manager, is currently constructing a 73,000-square-foot community center on a 19.3-acre site in Matteson. The $24 million facility will include an indoor competition pool, a gymnasium, locker rooms, a youth dance studio, spa rooms, a salon, pre-school, childcare rooms, multi-purpose rooms and meetings rooms. Additionally, the project includes a spray pool, a running track, a football stadium, two baseballs fields, a soccer field, three tennis courts, two basketball courts, a storage garage and four parking lots. William E. Brazley & Associates is providing architectural services and Greenwood Management Partners is servicing as the owner’s representative and community liaison. Completion is scheduled for the end of the year.
RIVERSIDE, ILL. — James McHugh Construction Co. has completed a $64 million renovation and expansion project at Riverside Brookfield High School, which is located at 160 Ridgewood Road in Riverside. The project included a new music center, a new vocational education building, upgraded classrooms, a new swimming pool, a new academic and administrative wing, a new student commons area and a new field house. Additionally, James McHugh renovated and refigured the remainder of the school by expanding the cafeterias and library and improved the computer labs, auditorium, theater and main gymnasium.
CARLSBAD, CALIF. — McCarthy Building Cos. has completed construction of a new $13.6 million athletic stadium at Carlsbad High School, located at 3557 Lancer Way in Carlsbad. The second of a three-phased, $86 million construction renovation of the school that began in June 2008, the stadium project component involved the demolition of the existing stadium, installation of underground utility infrastructure and construction of a new 3,900-seat venue with aluminum bleachers and a synthetic track and field area. Perkins+Will is the project architect for the entire modernization project, and Gafcon is the program manager.
ATLANTA — McCarthy Building Cos. has completed the 350,000-square-foot Parker H. Petit Science Center for Georgia State University. The $119 million project is located at 161 Jesse Hill Jr. Drive in Atlanta. The property includes teaching and research labs for the colleges of arts and sciences and heath and human services. The center will open in May.
