HOUSTON — General contractors Skanska and B. Bell Builders have broken ground on the Jones Graduate School of Business, a $54.5 million academic building on the campus of Rice University in Houston. Designed by Houston-based Kirksey Architecture and Architecture Research Office, the new building will be integrated into McNair Hall, the current home of the business school. In addition to classrooms and office spaces, the new building will feature dining areas and private event rooms. Completion is slated for spring 2026.

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS — Partners Real Estate has arranged the sale of a 12,664-square-foot daycare facility in the northern Austin suburb of Georgetown. According to LoopNet Inc., the building was constructed on 3.2 acres in 2022. Landan Dory and Caleb Jackson of Partners represented the seller and former occupant, Wellspring Preparatory Academy, in the all-cash transaction. The buyer and sales price were not disclosed.
ROUND ROCK, TEXAS — Texas-based general contractor Bartlett Cocke has broken ground on a $31 million academic building in metro Austin that will be part of the Round Rock Independent School District’s Early College High School campus. The 46,500-square-foot building will house classrooms and science labs, student breakout spaces, a cafeteria, central common area that can accommodate 150 students, a fitness center, an administration suite and outdoor dining and study spaces. O’Connell Robertson is providing architecture and engineering services, and Birmingham-based HPM is the program manager for the project. Completion is slated for fall 2025.
RALEIGH, N.C. — APG Capital has sold a 28,321-square-foot civic office building located at 2625 Appliance Court in Raleigh. An unnamed investor based in Florida purchased the property from APG Capital for $9.5 million. An affiliate of APG Capital originally acquired the building in 2014 for $1.9 million and has since invested more than $2 million in renovations. Situated near I-440 at Capital Boulevard, the single-story, single-tenant building has been occupied by the U.S. Government Services Administration (GSA) since 2012. The GSA utilizes the building as one of two military entrance processing stations (MEPS) in North Carolina. The buyer is one of the largest landlords of GSA-leased space in the nation, according to APG Capital.
MCKINNEY, TEXAS — Developer Griffin | Swinerton has broken ground on a 40,000-square-foot hangar building at the 745-acre McKinney National Airport in metro Dallas. The project includes the construction of a 3,200-square-foot inspections building that will expedite the customs process for international travelers. Project partners include architecture firm JRMA, engineering firm Garver and general contractor Swinerton, which is an affiliate of the developer. Completion is slated for May 2025.
AUSTIN, TEXAS — Brookfield Residential Properties has completed the 21-acre Skyline Park, located at 7800 Apogee Blvd. in the Easton Park neighborhood of Austin. Skyline Park offers views of downtown Austin, a bridge connection resembling the Pennybacker Bridge, a splash pad, an open lawn and two playgrounds designed to cater to children of a range of age groups. In addition, the park connects to a 13-mile network of walking trails. Project partners included landscape architect TBG, CBD civil engineering, Stanley Studio architects, PKA structural engineers and CMP project management consultants. A grand opening event took place on Saturday, May 4.
JORDAN, MINN. — Kraus-Anderson has begun a $29.5 million renovation project for Jordan Public Schools in Jordan, about 40 miles southwest of Minneapolis. Designed by ISG, the 96,435-square-foot project will take place in 2024 and 2025. The elementary school portion comprises two separate additions totaling 28,000 square feet. One addition includes an 8,500-square-foot gymnasium space intended for use as a storm shelter. The other addition features the construction of new classrooms, cafeteria, kitchen, gymnasium, loading dock and secure front entry. Extensive interior renovations will be made to the existing classrooms, storage spaces and media center. The project will also replace windows, upgrade bathrooms and enhance mechanical and electrical systems.
AUSTIN, TEXAS — General contractor Whiting-Turner has begun construction on the West Infill project at the Barbara Jordan Terminal at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. The project will add 75,000 square feet of space across four levels, encompassing areas such as baggage handling, apron space, the concourse and a new mezzanine level. Additionally, the project team will undertake enhancements to mechanical, electrical and IT systems to minimize wait times and maximize efficiency for the 57,000 travelers who pass through the airport on a daily basis. Gensler is the project architect. Completion is slated for spring 2026.
SEEKONK, MASS. — MassDevelopment has provided $11 million in tax-exempt bond financing to The Wheeler School in Seekonk, located outside Providence in southern Massachusetts. The college preparatory day school will use the proceeds to build a new pool, preschool facility and make other improvements to the campus. Construction is expected to begin in the coming weeks and to be complete by 2025. Berkshire Bank purchased the bond.
CHASKA, MINN. — Kraus-Anderson (KA) has begun a $24 million renovation of Chaska Middle School West located at 140 Engler Blvd. in Chaska, a southwest suburb of Minneapolis. Designed by Wold Architects and Engineers, the project will be constructed during the summer months of 2024 and 2025. The overall 145,000-square-foot renovation consists of mechanical and electrical upgrades, interior improvements and updated finishes throughout the entire school building. Renovations will be made to the gymnasium, classrooms, locker rooms, bathrooms, music spaces and other student areas. KA will also replace the parking lot and improve the existing loading dock area. Completion is slated for fall 2025.
