ST. LOUIS — St. Louis-based KWAME Building Group has been selected as construction manager and owner’s representative for the St. Louis Community College’s new William J. Harrison Northside Education Center, which will be located in the JeffVanderLou neighborhood of St. Louis. The 30,000-square-foot building, which will include classroom facilities, will be constructed to achieve LEED Certification. Construction of the two-story building is expected to begin in winter 2009, with completion slated for 2010. St. Louis-based KAI Design & Build is acting as architect for the $10 million project.

HENDERSON, NEV. — CORE Construction—Nevada has completed the construction of Nevada State College’s first permanent facility. Located at 1021 E. Paradise Hills Dr., the two-story, 42,000-square-foot building features laboratories and multiple classrooms. Originally planned as the school’s liberal arts building, the facility will now serve as a general education and student services building. CORE was contracted by Nevada State Public Works Board to construct the $13.3 million project. Carpenter Sellers Architects was the architect of record for the project.
RAVENNA, OHIO — Ohio-based Hoty Builders LLC has completed construction of an office building located at 444 Enterprise Parkway in Ravenna. The 5,800-square-foot building was completed for Ravenna S.S.A LLC, and will house the Social Security Administration. The estimated cost of completion was not disclosed.
O’FALLON, ILL. — Swansea, Ill.-based Holland Construction Services has completed Central School District #104’s new middle school, which is located at 160 St. Ellen Mine Rd. in O’Fallon. This fall, students will begin attending classes at the 35,888-square-foot Joseph Arthur Middle School. The new facility will relieve overcrowding throughout the district, while adding approximately 20 acres of green space and athletic fields. Wm. B. Ittner Inc. of St. Louis acted as designer for the $6.5 million project.
SAN MATEO, CALIF. — McCarthy Building Companies Inc., LPA Inc. and Kwan Henmi Architecture/Planning Inc. will break ground for the construction of a 230,000-square-foot project at the College of San Mateo in October. The $142.5 million project encompasses a 140,000-square-foot Student Services and Faculty Administration Building, a 90,000-square-foot Health and Wellness building and campus-wide improvements. Designed by Kwan Henmi, the Allied Health and Wellness center will feature a wellness center on the first floor, a fitness center and cosmetology program on the second floor, and nursing and dental programs on the third floor. Completion is slated for early 2010. The four-story Student Services and Faculty Administration Building, designed by LPA, will feature administrative offices, a dining area, a kitchen, a campus bookstore, an Extended Opportunity Programs and Services office, a student services office and a financial aid office. Completion is expected in 2011. The site work improvements, which will begin in 2009, include landscaping, hardscaping, fountains, a complete upgrade to the campus’ existing 12KV electrical infrastructure, site utilities, roadway and parking area resurfacing, and a new chemical-free treated chiller plant. The site work improvements are slated for completion in 2010. Additionally, the project is seeking LEED Silver certification.
ORLANDO, FLA. — Orlando-based H.J. High Construction Co. recently completed the 57,000-square-foot Pine Castle United Methodist Church, located at 731 Fairlane Ave. in Orlando. The $9.07 million project, which features a 1,250-seat sanctuary, also includes classrooms, church offices, a lobby, a chapel and a youth auditorium.
CARMEL, IND. — S&B Construction has been selected as construction manager/general contractor for Northview Christian Life Church’s new 2,000-seat worship center located in Carmel. The 50,568-square-foot worship center will include a main level with two balconies and support areas for office and audio/video recording. The facility, which is slated for completion in March 2010, will also include an engineered acoustical wall treatment system, a rear projection screen and theatrical lighting. The estimated cost of completion was not disclosed.
LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and WWCOT Architects have completed the Edward R. Roybal Learning Center in downtown Los Angeles. The $132.74 million, 25-acre campus includes 100,000 square feet of new construction, including a 500-seat classroom building, library, auditorium, music and drama classrooms and food services; and renovation of approximately 72,808 square feet of classrooms and 299,584 square feet of gym and parking space in the existing buildings, which were converted into six 500-seat academies. Additionally, the project included the demolition of two unfinished structures; implementation of an earthquake fault setback; integration of a complex between-slab methane ventilation system; the addition of outdoor courtyards and an adjacent 10-acre community park. The school can serve up to 2,800 students in grades 9-12.
RENO, NEV. — United Construction Co. has completed the construction of the Nevada Air National Guard Air Intelligence Exploitation Facility in Reno. The $14 million facility is located at 1776 National Guard Way at the Reno Tahoe International Airport. First of its kind, the building will serve as a prototype for all future Sensitive Compartmentalized Intelligence Facilities (SCIF) for the Armed Forces. Partners of the two-story, 39,127-square-foot project included Sheehan Van Woert Bigotti, Gardner Engineering, Nelson Electric, Delta Fire, CFA and Ferrari Shields.
ST. LOUIS — St. Louis-based KAI Design & Build has begun constructing Harris-Stowe State University’s new Early Childhood Development and Parenting Education Center located at 3026 Laclede Ave. in St. Louis. Construction of the $17 million project is underway, and slated for completion in July 2009. Adrian Luchini is serving as designer for the project. The 47,885-square-foot building, which is situated adjacent to the campus’ main entry on Compton Avenue, will house children from infants to pre-kindergarten, as well as the university’s Early Childhood Education department. The children and their teachers will occupy the main level, with the higher education component occupying the second floor. Amenities at the facility include a parents’ library and education room, a multi-purpose room with full kitchen, smart board technology in each classroom, a student computer lounge, and a large multimedia professional development classroom/lecture hall. KAI Design & Build is seeking LEED Silver certification for the project.
