NEW YORK CITY – The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corp. (BNYDC) and Steiner Studios are set to develop a media campus on a 20-acre site in the Brooklyn Navy Yard in Brooklyn, New York City. The site will be able to accommodate a Hollywood style back-lot as well as a multitude of other media and entertainment uses. The partnership has issued a Request for Expressions of Interest in the hopes of attracting media, film, television, entertainment companies and non-profit organizations.

PHILADELPHIA — Allstate Real Estate’s Commercial Mortgage division has provided $42 million in refinancing for the Convention Center Garage in Philadelphia. Thomas Maher of Wachovia Maher Partners arranged the financing for the borrower, Parkway Corp., on behalf of Allstate. The nine-story facility features 862 parking spaces with 29,000 square feet of ground floor retail space that if fully leased to four tenants.

UNION, MO. — St. Louis-based Paric Corp. has broken ground for the construction of a $15.4 million building for East Central College located at 1964 Prairie Dell Rd. in Union. The three-story, 51,800-square-foot facility will house the college’s nursing, health and science departments. It will include several laboratories, lecture halls, classrooms, computer labs and offices. The lawn north of the building will also form a natural courtyard for the area. The project is scheduled for completion in December. Paric is serving as construction manager, with architecture firm Hastings + Chivetta providing design services.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. — Broward County is developing The Edgar P. Mills Multi-Purpose Center, a $17.7 million, 50,000-square-foot facility to house government agencies in Fort Lauderdale. Tenants in the three-story, LEED-certified building will include the Broward County Health Department; Women, Infant and Children Programs; Elderly, Veterans Service Division; Hope Act Team; and the Family Services Administration. The facility will be located at 900 NW 31st Ave., and is being designed by IBI Group and DeRose Design Consultants. Deerfield Beach, Fla.-based Seawood Builders, a division of Catalfumo Construction, is the general contractor. The project is slated for completion in the winter of 2009.

BRADENTON, FLA. — An Ohio-based private investor has purchased Cortez Self Storage, a 59,734-square-foot facility in Bradenton, from Ronald and Michael Calleja for $6.5 million. The property is located at 8915 West Cortez Rd. Michael Mele, Scott Rutherford and Ricardo Bovero of Marcus & Millichap’s Tampa office were the sole brokers.

CARROLLTON, TEXAS — Realty Capital Partners’ (RCP) subsidiary RCP Lakeview Living Ltd. has provided equity capital for the acquisition and development of an independent living facility on 5.83 acres in Carrollton. The unnamed development, which will overlook Josey Ranch Lake, will be adjacent to the Carrollton Senior Center and the Carrollton Public Library. The property will be developed through a joint venture between Zerga Development and The Covenant Group.

NEW HAVEN, CONN. — New Haven Mayor John SeStefano, Jr. has announced the formation of the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) of New Haven. The new EDC will operate to attract new businesses to the area and help maintain existing companies. In addition, the EDC will work to ensure that New Haven is well positioned for future growth and long-term prosperity. Michele Whelley has been appointed the CEO. She comes to New Haven with more than 20 years of experience in economic development in both the private and public sectors.

CARROLLTON, GA. — Atlanta-based Carter will develop a $26 million athletic complex for The University of West Georgia on a 200-acre site in Carrollton, Ga. The complex will feature a 9,000-seat football stadium, fitness facility, golf driving range, tennis courts and softball/baseball fields, as well as house athletic-administration offices and academic classrooms. The project is scheduled to open in the fall of 2009.

CHICO, CALIF. — Sundt Construction Inc. is currently constructing a $43 million student-housing/dining facility at Chico State University in Chico. Located on Legion Avenue, the three-story, 111,000-square-foot building will provide living space for 229 students in a dormitory cluster format. Designed by AC Martin, the building also features student recreation and administrative space and a 24,951-square-foot dining facility on the ground floor.
