FORT HOOD — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a design-build contract to a joint venture of Satterfield & Pontikes Construction and San Antonio-based AMG Contractors to build Operations Readiness Training Complex facilites at Fort Hood. The $38.5 million project includes a 11,237-square-foot battalion headquarters building, a 22,579-square-foot officers quarters building and two 61,116-square-foot barracks. STV will provide architectural and engineering services, and the Fort Worth District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will administer the contract. The project is slated for a summer 2014 completion.

HOUSTON — Satterfield & Pontikes Construction has finished building the 88,000-square-foot Neff-White Relief Elementary School, located in southwest Houston. The $12.2 million school will serve 750 students in grades 2-5. PDG Architects designed the school to achieve LEED certification through the increased use of natural light, low-consumption plumbing fixtures and energy-efficient systems and controls. Rice & Gardner provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering services for the project.
COTULLA — The Sperry Van Ness National GSA Team has arranged the $4.3 million sale of a three-building, 23,485-square-foot U.S. Border Patrol property, located at 1550 Double C Drive on the Interstate 35 access road in Cotulla. THe property includes a high-security administration/detention building, vehicle maintenance and kennel facilities. Mark Phillips and Tim Strange of Sperry Van Ness represented the seller, DLI Cotulla, in the transaction. Bruce Marshall of Sperry Van Ness' Dallas office represented the buyer, UIRC-GSA Cotulla TX.
NEW YORK CITY — Massey Knakal has negotiated the sale of an institutional building located at 199-12 112th Ave. in the St. Albans neighborhood of Queens for $6.8 million. The most recent tenant was the New Charter Academy school, although the seller was the Police Athletic League, which once occupied space there. The 52,300-square-foot property was vacant at the time of sale. Bob Knakal and Brian Sarath of Massey Knakal represented the buyer, New York City's School Construction Authority. The company plans to use the building for a school. Knakal and Sarath also represented the seller.
DALLAS — Satterfield & Pontikes Construction has delivered the 184,000-square-foot Ann Richards Middle School, part of the Dallas Independent School District. PBK Architects designed the school according to Texas Collaborative for High Performance School standards, and implemented intelligent lighting controls, sunshades, a reflective roof and a geothermal heating and cooling system, which is expected to save 35 percent on utility bills. The school includes high-tech classrooms, computer labs, a football/softball field, tennis courts and an outdoor basketball court. The school serves approximately 1,250 students.
BELLAIRE — Satterfield & Pontikes Construction has recently finished the 78,000-square-foot Jack T. Trotter Academics & Sciences Building, a $14 million high-tech facility on Episcopal High School's campus in Bellaire. The facility offers wireless white boards, touch-screen computers, a two-story lobby, classrooms, science and language labs, performing arts and administrative areas. Jackson & Ryan Architects designed the facility.
SEAGOVILLE — Cadence McShane Construction Co. has completed the development of the 106,462-square-foot Seagoville North Elementary School, located at 1900 Seagoville Road in Seagoville. The school is within the Dallas Independent School District and will serve approximately 810 pre-kindergarten through fifth-grade students. The school will feature 39 classrooms, science labs, computer labs, a media center, multipurpose room, kitchen, cafeteria, library and gymnasium space. PageSoutherlandPage designed the school to meet the Collaborative for High Performance School Design Guidelines. The school is part of the 2008 Dallas ISD Bond Program, a $1.35 billion capital improvement plan.
CHICAGO — Tandem Construction has started the second phase of a $4.2 million renovation of the Union League Boys & Girls Club at 2157 W. 19th St. in Chicago. Phase II includes a full remodelling of the original 19th century Club One building. Tandem completed Phase I, the construction of a four-story, 17,000-square-foot annex adjacent to the existing facility, in July. Dating back to the 1880s, Club One once housed a saloon and has been home to the Union League Boys & Girls Club since 1920. Tandem plans to renovate an exisiting gym, build a state-of-the-art technology center and remove an unused swimming pool in the basement to create a multipurpose space. The project is slated for completion at the end of this year.
ANDOVER, MASS. — Skanska is constructing Bancroft Elementary School, a public school for the town of Andover. The project includes a new 106,486-square-foot building adjacent to the existing Bancroft Elementary School, which first opened in 1969. The new building will accommodate 680 students and will include classrooms, administrative space, a library, gymnasium and cafeteria. Crews plan to demolish the exisiting 65,000-square-foot elementary school. The town of Andover is seeking LEED Silver certification for the school. The project will be built in three phases and is scheduled for completion in November 2014. Symmes Maini & McKee Associates is the architect and Dore & Whittier is the project manager.
CONROE — McCarthy Building Cos. has begun construction on a $191 million project in Conroe known as the San Jacinto River Authority Surface Water Facility, located in Conroe. The construction will include building a raw water intake and pump station, water treatment plant, high service pumping station and storage. The facility is the second largest water infrastructure project in Texas. The project will use the Construction Manager-at-Risk (CMAR) delivery method, which will bring the contractor in early to help the collaborative team develop the most cost-effective solutions for the project. The treatment plant will have a 30 million gallons of water per day capacity. The project is slated for a late 2015 completion.
