PHILADALPHIA — ARC/Architectural Resources Cambridge has been selected to design a 250,000-square-foot science, education and research center at Temple University's main campus in Philadelphia. ARC will design classrooms, lecture halls and research labs. The project is part of the university’s $1.2 billion implementation plan, and will include high-tech classrooms, lecture halls, teaching and research labs, collaboration space and a 2-story atrium that will link the existing College of Engineering and College of Science and Technology buildings to the new facility. The project team includes USA Architects, Brinjac Engineering and Hunt Engineering. The project is expected to be complete by early 2014.

ATLANTA — McCarthy Building Cos. has been selected to build the Georgia Institute of Technology’s new 200,000-square-foot Engineered Biosystems Building at a cost of $98 million. The building will be located on the northern end of Georgia Tech’s campus in Atlanta on a square block surrounded by 10th Street, Peachtree Place, State Street and Atlantic Drive. Targeted for a minimum LEED Gold certification, the building will feature shared laboratory facilities that foster the merging of engineering and interdisciplinary science neighborhoods. The project architect is Cooper Carry with Lake Flato. Completion is slated for late summer 2014.
DANVERS, MASS. — Onibella Associates Danvers LLC has purchased The Learning Experience, an 11,000-square-foot property at 308 Andover St. in Danvers, for $3.1 million. The building was constructed in 2009 and is located along Route 114. The daycare center has 13 years remaining on its lease. Bob Horvath and Todd Tremblay of Marcus & Millichap represented the seller, Omni Ventures 308 Andover LLC. They also secured the buyer, Onibella Associates Danvers LLC.
DERRY, N.H. — Eckman Construction has broken ground on two new buildings at Pinkerton Academy in Derry. Eckman will expand the school’s Center for Career and Technical Education. The project will include a two-story brick building that will house the technical curriculums, as well as laboratories and a greenhouse. A second building will accommodate both animal science and cosmetology curriculums. Marinance Architects of New Hampton designed the project.
RALEIGH, N.C. — Southbridge Fellowship, a North Carolina-based non profit, has purchased 10.79 acres for $1.46 million on Glenwood Ave. in Raleigh. The organization plans to build a church campus on the property and hopes to consolidate and expand its existing offices to the new campus within the next two to three years. Randy Williamson and Jim Anthony of Colliers International represented the buyer in the transaction.
IRVING — Cadence McShane Construction Co. has been selected by the Irving ISD to complete expansions at Sam Houston Middle School and Albert Farine Elementary School, both located in Irving. Sam Houston Middle School, located at 3033 W. Country Club Road, will undergo a 100,000-square-foot renovation program that encompasses 50 classrooms, a library, gymnasiums, science labs, administrative offices, art, music and theater areas. Cadence McShane is slated to complete the renovation by the beginning of fall semester. Albert Farine Elementary School, located at 615 Metker St., will undergo a 71,000-square-foot renovation, including the modernization of 52 classrooms, a cafeteria, kitchen, gymnasiums and the library. Cadence McShane will also install new perimeter fencing and landscaping and will complete parking lot upgrades at each campus. PBK is providing the architectural services for each of the assignments.
STATESBORO, GA. — CPPI and Lavender & Associates have been awarded a $6.5 million contract to renovate Georgia Southern University's Sanford Hall. The former dormitory will be redeveloped to accommodate column-free classrooms and student-operated radio and television stations.
BERKELEY, MO. — Construction is complete on a new city hall and fire station in Berkeley. The buildings are located within a $16 million municipal complex, which will also contain a police station. Kwame Building Group, the construction manager, broke ground on the project in 2010 and construction began simultaneously on the 29,500-square-foot city hall and the 17,200-square-foot fire station. Features include separate offices for each of the city's five council members, expanded living quarters for firefighters and larger bays for fire engines.
LANCASTER, PA. — Sports Complex LP, an entity headed by former Auntie Anne's pretzels owner Sam Beiler, has purchased 2913 Spooky Nook Rd. in Lancaster. The 549,000-square-foot industrial facility was previously occupied by Armstrong Industries, which used the space as a distribution center for flooring products. The new owner plans to convert the property into a regional, youth-oriented sports complex. Gerard Blinebury, Leah Balerno, Pat McBride and Adam Cambell of Cushman & Wakefield represented the seller in the transaction. Tim Shreiner of Prudential H.S.G. Real Estate represented the buyer.
NEWARK, N.J. — Two new charter schools, Newark Prep and Spirit Prep, are slated to open in September at 570 Broad St., a newly renovated landmark in downtown Newark. The schools will occupy four floors, totaling 60,000 square feet, in the 15-story building. Each school will combine rigorous college-prep and career readiness programs with online curriculum to serve the needs of Newark area students. The Berger Organization owns and manages the property.
