KINGSVILLE, TEXAS — Satterfield & Pontikes Construction has delivered a new $35.8 million border patrol station in Kingsville for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection station features a 47,000-square-foot main station building, a 22,000-square-foot maintenance building, 8,000-square-foot warehouse, 4,000-square-foot canine facility, 2,000-square-foot covered fueling station and a 3,000-square-foot car wash facility. VOA Associates designed the complex to achieve LEED Silver certification, and Satterfield & Pontikes completed the station's construction four months ahead of schedule.

NASHVILLE — Music City Center, a 1.2 million-square-foot convention center, will open its doors Sunday, May 19 in Nashville. The $585 million project spans six city blocks and includes a modern exterior glass curtain wall and limestone panels. The center features 60 meeting rooms, two ballrooms, 32 loading docks and a garage for 1,800 vehicles. In terms of design, the facility's undulating roof “represents the rolling hills of Tennessee and the sound waves that can be overheard by musicians playing in clubs on Broadway,” according to architecture firm tvsdesign. tvsdesign, Tuck-Hinton and Moody Nolan designed the facility, and Bell/Clark/Harmony provided construction services. A grand finale event will be held May 20 with concerts by Sheryl Crow and Phil Vassar, among others.
PECOS, TEXAS — The Sperry Van Ness National GSA Team of Mark Phillips and Tim Strange has arranged the $4 million sale of a federal courthouse in Pecos. Phillips and Strange represented the property seller, Oklahoma-based Dominion Group, in the transaction. Bruce Marshall of Sperry Van Ness/Datavest Inc. represented the buyer, UIR, a private equity group. The 41,146-square-foot, two-story courthouse is located at 410 S. Cedar and encompasses an entire city block.
ELMHURST, N.Y. — New York City officials and employees from Stalco Construction Inc. celebrated a topping-out ceremony for the $27.8 million, 30,000-square-foot Queens Library at Elmhurst. The new four-story library, which is expected to open in 2014, will be double the size of the former library and feature separate library areas for adults, children and teens. Stalco Construction was the general contractor. Other project team members include architect Marpillero Pollak Architects, structural engineer Severud Associates, mechincal electrical and plumbing engineer Ads Engineers, lighting designer See/Arch and landscape architect Wallace Roberts & Todd.
BROOKLINE, N.H. — Eckman Construction has built a 6,000-square-foot building, located on Route 13 in Brookline, for the Brookline New Hampshire Police Department. The building also includes 1,900 square feet of unfinished space on the second floor, which will be used for storage. A secure sally port will allow for the safe transfer of prisoners into and out of vehicles, and provides direct access to a booking area with two holding cells and evidence storage. The facility also includes offices, men’s and women’s locker rooms with showers, and an interview room. Eckman worked with the town and the Safety Complex Building Committee for two years prior to the voter approval, which funded the construction at a town meeting in March 2012. ATLANTA — Carter, an Atlanta-based real estate investment, development and advisory firm, has been selected to provide program and project management services for three colleges in Georgia — Agnes Scott College, Berry College and Spelman College. At Agnes Scott College, Carter will guide the design and construction for the renovation of Campbell Hall, a four-story former science building. The 51,450-square-foot building will be transformed into a living and learning center, which will include student housing, academic classrooms and meeting spaces. For Berry College, Carter is currently working on project management for the renovation of the Richards Memorial Gymnasium, which will include offices for Berry College athletic teams, a 4,000-square-foot weight room, a 3,000-square-foot locker room, grass practice fields and an indoor practice/training facility. Carter has also been working with Berry on an athletic stadium for its new NCAA Division III football program. In Atlanta, Spelman College selected Carter as a program manager to oversee the redevelopment of the 53,000-square-foot Read Hall into a wellness center. The program is part of Spelman's Wellness Revolution, and includes a new gym, four-lane swimming pool, wellness classroom and teaching kitchen, multipurpose rooms for fitness activities, an indoor track, lockers and administrative offices. SPENCER, IND. — Architect George Ridgway and Pritchett Brothers, a Bloomington-based general contractor, have completed the renovation of the Tivoli Theatre in Spencer, located about 17 miles northwest of Bloomington. The transformation includes restored interior and exterior features and an addition to the north side of the building, which provides a kitchen, restrooms and additional office space. A project cost was not disclosed. Construction on the theater began in April 2012. Cook Group Inc. sponsored the renovation of the theater, which is owned by Owen County Preservations. The theater originally opened on New Year’s Eve in 1928. The Tivoli was damaged in a fire in 1985, but continued to operate until 1998 and fell into disrepair.
COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina United FC, the state's largest youth soccer club, has acquired 24.5 acres of land in Columbia to develop a facility consisting of six full-sized soccer fields and related amenities. The facility, located along the I-20 corridor, will serve as the club's central training facility for its junior academy and select-level soccer players. It will also serve as an additional venue for its recreational soccer players. Rob Lapin of NAI Avant represented the buyer in the transaction.
ATLANTA — Invest Atlanta, the city's economic development arm, has approved public funding to help build the proposed $1 billion Atlanta Falcons stadium. The board of directors approved issuing $200 million in bond funding, backed by the city's hotel and motel tax, to finance the public contribution for the new retractable-roof stadium. The Falcons, along with private entities, will pay the remaining cost. The vote marks the final steps in lining up financing for the stadium. The Georgia World Congress Center, which will own the stadium, and Atlanta City Council, have already approved the project. However, the project team is still negotiating with two churches to acquire the necessary land to build the project, which would be located just south of the Georgia Dome, according to local reports. The churches would have to be moved for the project to move forward. The goal is to complete the stadium by 2017.
DALLAS — Uptown Dallas Inc., a nonprofit that manages the Uptown Public Improvement District, has commenced construction on the eight-acre Griggs Park. The park is located near the intersection of Woodall Rodgers Freeway and Central Expressway in Dallas. The construction kicks off the start of the Griggs Park Capital Campaign project. The construction includes children's facilities, kiosks, benches, picnic tables, groves of new trees, pedestrian pathways and fountains. Uptown Dallas will also add commemorative markers honoring the park's namesake, Rev. Allen Griggs, a former slave and pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church in the 1870s. Approximately $1.5 million has been allocated through a public-private partnership for the construction. The City of Dallas will provide basic upkeep and Uptown Dallas will be responsible for planting, watering, electricity and other park maintenance. SWA Group designed the park originally and ValleyCrest Landscape Cos. is completing the park's landscaping. Construction is slated for a fall 2013 completion.
