HAMDEN, CONN. — The Alphabet Academy, a children's daycare, has leased 12,000 square feet at 2389 Dixwell Ave. in Hamden, the former Colonial Tymes Restaurant. PARIS — Paris Junior College, located at 2400 Clarksville St. in Paris, has selected Plano-based SHW Group to design its $11 million, 41,800-square-foot Science and Technology Center. The new facility will provide classrooms, laboratory space and departmental offices. Construction began in October of this year and is slated for a December 2012 completion.
MURPHY — Cadence McShane has finished the $37 million construction of the 282,000-square-foot C.A. McMillen High School, located at 750 N. Murphy Rd. in Murphy, on behalf of the Plano Independent School District. The construction included building 67 instructional spaces, 10 science laboratories, music spaces, a library, a cafeteria/kitchen and a new surface parking lot. Plano-based SHW Group provided architectural services for the project.
SAN ANTONIO — Plano-based SHW Group has been awarded a $21 million contract to renovate Brackenridge High School, located at 400 Eagleland Dr. in San Antonio, on behalf of the San Antonio Independent School District. The renovation project includes the addition of 10 science laboratories, broadcast media studios, art classrooms, animation laboratories, classrooms, a career tech center and parking improvements. Construction will begin in summer of 2012 and is slated for a 2014 completion.
FORT FAIRFIELD, MAINE —Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services has brokered the $10 million sale of the Fort Fairfield border patrol station, a 25,603-square-foot built-to-suit facility in northern Maine. Geoffrey Ficke of Marcus & Millichap's Dallas office represented the seller, a developer of buildings leased by the government. Ficke also procured the buyer, a fund focused on U.S. General Services Administration property acquisitions. Adrian Harris of Harris Real Estate, Appraisal & Auction Services in Farmington, Maine, also provided representation.
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The State University of New York at Plattsburgh has broken ground on a new 43,400-square-foot business, economics and computer science building, designed by Gwathmey Siegel Kaufman + Associates Architects. The building, which will include computer labs, classrooms and conferencing facilities, is slated for completion in 2013.
SANTA FE — Houston-based Cadence McShane has been awarded a construction assignment for the reconstruction and conversion of the 45,612-square-foot Cowan Elementary School, located at 4133 Warpath Dr. in Santa Fe, into the Elizabeth Yaws Cowan Educational Center. The new development will serve as the Santa Fe Independent School District's educational center. Houston-based SBWV Architects is designing the new facility, which is slated for an April 2012 completion.
BLACKSBURG AND RINER, VA. — Skanska USA's Skanska Integrated Solutions group (SIS), which specializes in program management and energy services, has been selected to provide program management oversight for three school construction projects for Montgomery County Public Schools in Virginia. The projects include the construction of the new Blacksburg High School in Blacksburg, the construction of the new Auburn High School and the conversion of the current Auburn High School into the new Auburn Middle School, both in Riner. The total cost for all three projects is $125 million. Completion for the two high schools is slated for the summer of 2013 and the middle school will be completed during the summer of 2014.
MORRISTOWN, N.J. — A $2.5 million renovation at The Club of Morristown, a 36,000-square-foot fitness center in Morristown, N.J., is complete. Renovations include a new salt water pool, exercise equipment and a new full-service spa. The project development team included Fisher Development Associates and the Olnick Organization.
FORT WORTH — Education Realty Trust has agreed to purchase the leasehold interest of the 244-unit GrandMarc at Westberry Place, a collegiate housing community on the campus of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, for $54.7 million. The transaction is expected to close in mid-November. The property is 97.8 percent leased and is subject to a 53-year ground lease with TCU. In addition, the housing community includes 30,000-square-feet of ground floor retail that is currently 100 percent leased.
