CHICAGO — Northwestern University Feinberg of Medicine has signed a 61,750-square-foot lease at 633 N. St. Clair St. in Chicago's Streeterville neighborhood. The school is filling space being vacated by the advertising agency Draftcb. Steve Smith and Craig Coupe of Jones Lang LaSalle represented the building owner, the American College of Surgeons, in the transaction. Kevin Duckler and Ashley Devick of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank represented the tenant. The deal is one of the 10 largest to be completed in the Chicago CBD so far this year, and the 27-story building is now fully occupied.
FALL RIVER, MASS. — New England Construction has completed a 20,000-square-foot renovation of Bristol Community College's new Workforce Center, located at Commonwealth Landing in Fall River. The center includes 28 offices and 11 classrooms and will house the college's corporate education services, community education and workforce literacy program. The project included the construction of a new stair tower and upgrades to the building's existing lobby and elevator. The property is located at 1080 Davol St.
SAN MARCOS — Satterfield & Pontikes has been selected as the construction manager for a $9.3 million project to renovate Texas State University's psychology building on its San Marcos campus. The project consists of renovating and remodeling 37,500 square feet of the existing psychology building for the philosophy, computer science and transportation services departments. The renovation includes modifications to the HVAC, electrical, plumbing and telecommunication systems within the building. Randall Scott Architects will provide design services. Construction is slated to begin in spring 2013 and be complete by May 2014.
CHICAGO — J.C. Anderson has been selected for a 10,000-square-foot renovation to the photography lab and media room at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The space is located on the second floor at 280 S. Columbus Dr. The project will include construction of a new photography lab and upgrades to the school's media center and classrooms. The project is slated for completion in mid-August. Tom Bean is the project executive for J.C. Anderson. Juan Gabriel Moreno Architects will provide architectural services.
HUDSON, OHIO — A Georgia-based private preschool has acquired the Hudson Professional Medical Office Building in Hudson for $1 million. The buyers plan to fully occupy the space. The property is located between Cleveland and Akron and is situated directly across from the corporate headquarters of JoAnn Fabrics. Bob Havasi of Cooper Commerical Investment Group represented the seller in the transaction.
SACO, MAINE — Mercantile Capital Corp. has arranged a $2.9 million acquisition loan for XL Soccer World Saco. The parent company, XL Soccer World, is comprised of several different indoor soccer facilities owned by Ciaran McArdle and Kris Lamb. The funds will be used to purchase a new facility in Saco, as well as to renovate the property. XL Soccer's facilities are also located in North Carolina and Orlando.
MACHESNEY PARK, ILL. — A new Army Reserves Training Facility is joining the Willow Creek Business Center in Machesney Park. The facility will consist of more than 15 acres of office and industrial ground and will be located north of Highway 173. The campus will include administrative offices, a library, learning center, weapons vault, weapons simulator and physical fitness area. Orput Cos. sold the land for $1.1 million. The Reserves' objective is to consolidate two of its training facilities to one central campus for better efficiency.
ST. PAUL, MINN. — The Ramsey County Regional Rail Authority has selected Jones Lang LaSalle as the property manager and retail leasing agent for St. Paul Union Depot. The historic facility is undergoing a $243 million transformation from a defunct rail station to an active transit center in St. Paul's Lowertown neighborhood. It will be the terminus of the Twin Cities' new light rail transit line, which connects the downtowns of Minneapolis and St. Paul, local and inner-city bus service, taxis, Amtrak and, in the future, high-speed rail service to Chicago.
JERSEY CITY, N. J. — The Boys & Girls Club of Hudson County will be getting new facilities attached to a new, 422-unit luxury rental building in Jersey City. Developers recently broke ground on the 30,000-square-foot facility, which will include classroom space, room for arts and music programs, a gymnasium and more. The new building will replace the organization's current facility, which was built in 1912 as a storage facility and retrofitted for the Boys & Girls Club in 1984. The club will be attached but operated independently from 18 Park, a 550,000-square-foot rental building. Ironstate Development Co. and Kushner Real Estate Group have partnered to develop the project, which is expected to be complete in the fall of 2014.
HOUSTON — Hoar Construction has completed the $31.2 million, 78,000-square-foot University of Houston Science Teaching Lab building and is planning to add 12,000 square feet of research space to the facility. Hoar will complete the unfinished shell space on the fourth floor of the property. Each teaching lab of the facility includes six workstations, fume hoods, instrumentation benches, locked drawers for personal lab supplies, multi-media capabilities and a lounge on each floor. The construction is part of the Board of Regents' pursuit of Tier One status, which The Carnegie Foundation granted in January 2011. The pursuit included $240 million of construction projects to the university.
