MIAMI — Ground has broken on the $275 million, 250,000-square-foot Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science, located in downtown Miami. Grimshaw Architects designed the property, which includes terrestrial and aquatic spaces such as a 600,000 gallon aquarium, a full dome 3-D planetarium, interactive exhibits, innovative technology, two additional wings of exhibition space, a learning center and cafes. Completion is slated for 2015.

SPARTA, N.J. — Hance Construction has completed renovation of the New Station Park Recreation Complex, a 12,150-square-foot, multi-building facility at 38 Station Rd. The Sparta Police Athletic League has signed a long-term lease with property owner Dermody Associates for two of the spaces in the four-building complex. The project is located on a former industrial site, which has been vacant for more than 20 years. The buildings leased by the athletic league include an indoor basketball facility and office and meeting space.
HANOVER PARK, ILL. — Hoffman Estates, Ill.-based Leopardo has completed construction of the new $15 million, 63,000-square-foot police headquarters for the Village of Hanover Park, which opened Feb. 18. The building includes detention facilities, interview rooms, a fire arms range and an enclosed garage for police vehicles.
LAKE WORTH — Cadence McShane has completed a second renovation and expansion of Lake Worth High School, located at 4210 Boat Club Rd. in Lake Worth. The construction project included the addition of 41 classrooms, two science laboratories, expanded cafeteria and kitchen facilities, practice and competition gymnasiums and upgraded locker rooms. WRA Architects designed the school on behalf of Lake Worth Independent School District.
HANOVER, MD. — The Cordish Co. has topped off the $500 million, 330,000-square-foot Maryland Live! Casino, located at 7002 Arundel Mills Cir. in Hanover. The property will include 4,750 Las Vegas-style slot machines and popular electronics gaming tables, as well as a variety of dining options, eight bars and a 500-seat live entertainment venue. A joint venture between Commercial Interiors and TN Ward is the general contractor for the project, which is slated for completion in summer 2012.
HOUSTON — Satterfield & Pontikes Construction (S&P) has completed the $9.4 million construction of a 52,600-square-foot building and a 9,500-square-foot gymnasium for Henry W. Grady Middle School, located at San Felipe Street and Sage Road in Houston's Galleria area. The addition includes classrooms, science labs, a commons area, a library, clinic, administrative offices, a music room, a theater and special education centers. Gensler provided architectural services for the project and Rice & Gardner Consultants served as the program manager.
CANTON, GA. — Cherokee County School District has selected Choate Construction Co. to build the $31.6 million, 240,000-square-foot Teasley Middle School replacement, located on Reservoir Drive in Canton. The school, which is currently being referred to as “Middle School E”, will include 95 classrooms. Construction is slated to begin on or before March 1 of this year with completion scheduled for March 2014. Manley Spanger Smith Architects is the architect for the project.
HOUSTON — Cadence McShane Construction Co. has completed the construction of the 110,161-square-foot Edgewood Elementary School, located at Hollister Road and Kempwood Drive in Houston. The school belongs to the Spring Branch Independent School District. The new school features 38 classrooms, a science laboratory, a library, a full-service cafeteria, administrative areas, a music and choir room, instructional space and performing arts areas. The school also has a clock tower placed above the entryway. PBK Architects designed the new school.
CAMBRIDGE — ARC/Architectural Resources Cambridge has completed a renovation and expansion project for Boston College at 2121 Commonwealth Ave. on the college's Brighton campus. The project called for the conversion of a vacant property into an administrative office and added 70,000 square feet of space. The new building is called the Boston College Alumni Center.
CHICAGO — Reed Construction has completed a 45,000-square-foot build-out for Westwood College, located at 1 N. State St. in Chicago. The project included the addition of classrooms, computer labs, design labs and staff offices. The new facility also features a career services center, server rooms and student common area. Scott Pickands, Christine Roche and Robert Marks of Reed led the construction team. Atul Karkhanis Architects provided architectural services.
