MISSOURI CITY — Hampton Pointe Manor, a 78-bed assisted living facility in Missouri City, has secured a private equity investment from The Kalikow Group of Westbury, N.Y., on behalf of KEP Hampton ALF. Located at Hampton Drive and Murphy Road near downtown Houston, Hampton Pointe Manor is the initial phase of the Hampton Pointe master-planned community. It is being developed and operated in partnership by Wallace Bajjali Development Partners and Outer Marker Properties.

RIDGECREST, CALIF. — Barnhart Balfour Beatty has broken ground for the construction of a $5 million career and technical education building on the campus of Sherman E. Burroughs High School located at 500 E. French Ave. in Ridgecrest. The first new construction in the Sierra Sands Unified School District in nearly 20 years, the 18,845-square-foot building will include laboratory, classroom and office space. Designed by Westberg + White and funded by Proposition 1D Career Technical Education grant funds and a state loan, the project is scheduled to be completed in November 2011.
ST. LOUIS — Harris-Stowe State University has selected Kwame Building Group as program manager for its $15 million on-campus residence hall. The 70,000-square-foot residence hall will offer housing for 200 students as well as the campus’ new dining hall. The environmentally friendly facility is being funded through the U.S. Department of Education’s Historically Black College University Capital Financing Program. Grice Group Architects and Trivers Associates are providing architectural services for the project.
BRYAN — Turner Construction Co. has completed a 140,000-square-foot expansion to the Brazos Country Jail. The $45 million project added three detention clusters and capacity for 684 more beds to the Bryan jail. The firm also updated the security system.
SAVANNAH, GA. — Choate Construction Co. will begin work this month on a 106,456-square-foot property to serve as a replacement for Mattie Lively Elementary School. The Savannah property will include 53 classrooms, a kitchen and cafeteria, a media center, and art and science labs. Martin Rule & Associates designed the project.
ORLANDO, FLA. — SchenkelShultz Architecture will design an 80,000-square-foot classroom and laboratory building on Valencia Community College's new 23-acre satellite campus in Orlando. The $16 million project will be constructed to LEED Silver standards. The property will include a café, a bookstore, a library, offices and science labs.
FRISCO — Balfour Beatty Construction is nearing completion on a renovation of the Frisco Discovery Center, turning a 150,000-square-foot warehouse into a performance arts complex. The property, which is located at 8004 N. Dallas Parkway in Frisco, houses a 100-seat theater, an art gallery and a science discovery center. BOKA Powell designed the project, and the Frisco Community Development Corp. provided funding. The Frisco Association for the Arts will manage the space.
ATLANTA — Passion City Church has leased a 134,000-square-foot property from Ram Realty Services and has begun converting the former big-box store into a worship area. The property had housed a Home Depot EXPO, a PGA Superstore and a Sam's Club, and is located at 515 Garson Drive in Atlanta's Lindbergh City Center area. The renovations will be complete by the end of this year.
BOSTON — Architectural Resources Cambridge (ARC) has been selected to complete a 70,000-square-foot interior renovation for Boston College. Construction will take place at the Chancery Building, which is located at 2121 Commonwealth Ave. on the school's Brighton Campus. The building will be renovated to house the consolidated offices of the college's University Advancement Departments. The new design will increase the amount of natural light the interior receives, and a new multi-story, sky-lit atrium will provide flexible meeting and event space. The construction timetable was not released.
PHILADELPHIA — Brandywine Realty Trust has completed the $252 million historic rehabilitation of the 30th Street Post Office in Philadelphia. Upon completion, the Internal Revenue Service took occupancy of the 862,692-square-foot building for a 20-year term. Concurrent with this project, Brandywine completed the $90 million construction of the Cira South Garage, which is located across the street. The project consists of 1,662 parking spaces and 9,788 square feet of ground-floor retail space. The project is on track for a LEED-Silver rating. As a result of the completion, Brandywine has received $256.5 million in financing from an affiliate of CTL Capital that had been escrowed pending completion of the two projects. The two loans carry a 5.93 percent interest rate and a 20-year term.
