O’FALLON, MO. — Holland Construction Services is currently constructing a 21,428-square-foot fellowship project for St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, which is located at 625 St. Nicholas Dr. in O’Fallon. The project includes an 11,628-square-foot activity center and a 9,800-square-foot spirituality center. The activity center will feature a youth room, three classrooms and a multi-purpose room. The spirituality center will feature a chapel, a nursery, three classrooms, a large group gathering area, a formal discussion room and an informal discussion room. Completion is slated for December. Fairview Heights, Ill.-based W.B. Ittner is providing architectural services; Fairview Heights-based Hoelscher Engineering is serving as civil engineer; and Belleville, Mo.-based BRIC Partnership is providing mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineer services for the project.

PLANO — Cadence McShane Construction Co. will soon start work on a 44,375-square-foot renovation and construction at Plano Senior High School. The Plano project, which was designed by WRA Architects, will deliver in August 2011. Cadence McShane will first demolish eight classrooms and convert the 9,375 square feet of space into four chemistry labs. The firm will also construct a two-story art classroom spanning 20,885 square feet and a pedestrian bridge to connect the new building to the existing campus. A 12,305-square-foot addition to the fine arts building and a 2,000-square-foot addition to the athletics building will also be built.

ARNOLD, MO. — Construction is currently under way for the Parish Center addition at St. Mark Catholic School in Arnold. The $1.7 million, 12,500-square-foot addition includes a new gymnasium and restrooms. Additionally, a parking lot will be constructed to accommodate the additional building space. Completion is slated for this fall. St. Louis-based Kozeny-Wagner is serving as general contractor; M+H Architects is the architect of record; Pillar Design Team is serving as MEP engineer; and CEDC is serving as civil engineer.

UNION, MO. — The Franklin County Courthouse is currently undergoing a $3.2 million renovation. Located at 300 E. Main St. in Union, the project includes a complete remodel of the three-story, 27,439-square-foot building and partial basement. Kaiser Electric is installing new electric service, lighting and fire alarm system, closed-circuit television, courtroom audio, card access and voice/date systems in the courthouse. Additionally, the building’s existing historic light fixtures will be refurbished. Kaiser is also working with St. Louis-based Brennan Tools & Fastening Systems on the project. The construction timetable was not released.

SAN DIEGO — Construction of two child development centers totaling $10.9 million has begun on Naval Amphibious Base Coronado and Naval Air Station North Island. With the capacity to serve 286 children, the facilities will include play areas, landscaping, new parking lots, drop-off areas and service entrances. Barnhart Balfour Beatty is the contractor for the project, which is slated for completion in January 2011, and the design partner is San Diego-based Roesling Nakamura Terada Architects.

BONITA SPRINGS, FLA. — Bonita Springs Fire Control and Rescue District has finished the development of the 8,688-square-foot Fire Station No. 5. The property, which is located on West Terry Street in Bonita Springs, is designed to withstand 130-mph winds. Fire Station No. 5 features living quarters, which includes space for 10 people, an exercise room, a dining room and an office area. Gora/McGahey Architects designed the project.

CHICAGO — Roosevelt University has broken ground for its new 32-story tower at 425 S. Wabash Ave. in Chicago’s South Loop. Designed by Chicago-based VOA Architects, the tower will be the second tallest educational facility in the country. The facility will feature classrooms, lecture halls, state-of-the-art science labs, conference rooms, a dining center, a student recreation center, residences for more than 600 students, offices and space for the Walter E. Heller College of Business Administration. Seeking LEED certification, the project will feature a green roof, recycled and sustainable building materials, energy and water efficiencies and attention to indoor environmental quality. The $118 million project is being managed by the John Buck Company and constructed by Power Construction.
