The purchase price was not disclosed. The facility is located near Naval Medical Center San Diego, one of the country’s largest military hospitals. Freedom Station USA had initially leased and opened the center in May 2010. HFF’s local offices donated their commercial real estate services to assist the non-profit with its purchase. The firm’s Bryan Clark provided commercial mortgage financing and consulting services to Freedom Station USA.

JUPITER, FLA. — Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) Project and Development Services has completed the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience, a LEED Gold-certified research center, in Jupiter. It is the first U.S.-based institute for the Germany-based Max Planck Society, a global scientific research organization. The three-story, 100,000-square-foot facility includes 57,600 square feet dedicated laboratory space and is situated on six acres at Florida Atlantic University’s John D. MacArthur Campus. The project was primarily funded by the State of Florida and Palm Beach County, which received more than $180 million in public funding including $66 million for the facility’s construction. ZGF Architects LLP designed the building, and The Weitz Co. and DPR Construction were construction managers. The Florida Institute’s scientists are focused on the nervous system, its capacity to produce perception, thought, language, memory, action and emotion. Their primary goal is better research and treatments for brain disorders.
HOUSTON — Carter Validus Mission Critical REIT has acquired a 14,000-square-foot surgery center in Houston for $4.7 million. The facility is fully leased to Northwest Surgery Center and there are 14 years remaining on the lease.
DARIEN AND NORWALK, CONN. — Aviv REIT has opened two new assisted living facilities in Darien and Norwalk for $32 million. The properties are triple-net leased to and operated by Maplewood Senior Living. The Darien property consists of 66 units and the Norwalk property includes 84 units. Maplewood operates five assisted living and memory care facilities with 407 units in Connecticut.
ODESSA — SCC Healthcare Group has broken ground on the $10 million, 43,000-square-foot Madison Medical Resort, a post-hospital recovery, skilled nursing and long-term care community located in Odessa. The facility, which is slated for a summer 2013 opening, should create 150 new jobs. The property will feature personal laundry services, a courtyard, private dining room and large flat-screen TVs in every room.
DALLAS — The AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is opening a new 3,600-square-foot clinic known as the Dallas AHF Magic Johnson Healthcare Center. The clinic will be located in Medical City at 7777 Forest Lane, Suite B-122 in Dallas. The property will feature four exam rooms and a pharmacy. AHF operates 21 other clinics nationwide.
TAMPA, FLA. — An 8,400-square-foot former dialysis center at 1602 N. 21st St. in Tampa has traded. Moe Derbala of Marcus & Millichap’s Tampa office represented the seller, a Tampa-based private investor, and also secured the buyer. The former dialysis center was built in 1980 and consists of three suites. Suite 1 is 5,225 square feet and has 18 patient bed treatment areas. Suite 2 has 1,800 square feet of open area with a bathroom. Finally, Suite 3 contains three offices.
ST. LOUIS — McGrath & Associates has completed the $11 million renovation of the intensive care unit (ICU) on the fourth floor of Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. The 36,700-square-foot renovation includes 36 new ICU rooms, patient care stations, support areas and family waiting areas. McGrath also installed three new mechanical units. The Lawrence Group was the architect.
MIAMI — Love Funding, a provider of FHA multifamily and healthcare financing, has secured $13.4 million in refinancing for Jackson Plaza Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, a skilled nursing facility that is part of the Plaza Health Network in Miami. Jackson Plaza offers 120 nursing beds in 63 units. It was built in 1964 and renovated in 2000. Joshua Hausfeld of Love Funding’s Washington, D.C., office secured financing through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s 232/223(a)(7) LEAN loan program.
