GAINESVILLE, FLA. — Charles Perry Partners has been selected to construct the $30.3 million, 90,000-square-foot University of Florida Harrell Medical Education Building, located in Gainesville. The facility, which will be the medical school's first freestanding building, will serve as a focal point for integration and program development for all primary care educational activities in the College of Medicine. Groundbreaking on the four-story building is scheduled for spring 2013, with completion slated for October 2014.

GULFPORT, MISS. — The Naval Facilities Engineering Command has selected Satterfield & Pontikes (S&P) Construction to build a 57,000-square-foot Branch Health Clinic, located in Gulfport. The Navy patient care facility will replace the base's 42-year-old health clinic. S&P will demolish two buildings and a manual car wash to build the property, which is designed to achieve LEED Silver certification. Completion is slated for fall 2014.

CHICAGO — Aviv REIT has acquired a skilled nursing facility in Idaho for $6 million. The property will be triple-net leased to Safe Haven Health Care, an existing tenant since 2008. Safe Haven operates 12 assisted living and skilled nursing facilities in Idaho, two of which are now leased from Chicago-based Aviv. Safe Haven's lease has a seven-year term.

ST. LOUIS — McGrath & Associates has completed the renovation of the MRI facility at TenetCare, the outpatient diagnostic testing center of Saint Louis University Hospital. BSA LifeStructures was the architect. The two-phase renovation project replaced the existing imaging area with a new MRI exam room and dedicated control room, an updated lobby and new flooring. Construction began in December 2011.

DALLAS — Carter Validus Mission Critical REIT has closed a $15 million preferred equity investment to redevelop an existing medical office building in Dallas. The hospital will be renamed Walnut Hill Doctors Hospital, which will span 200,000 square feet and include 84 in-patient beds, 16 intensive care units and six operating rooms. The hospital will feature emergency, urgent care, diagnostic imaging, surgery, cardiology and general acute care capabilities. The REIT also has the option to acquire the property after completion of the renovations. The equity investment will be used along with a $34 million construction loan and a $21 million equity investment by a private development group.

JONESBORO, GA. — Kaiser Permanente has selected McCarthy Building Cos. for the $25 million renovation of the 70,563-square-foot Southwood Comprehensive Medical Center, located at 2400 Mount Zion Parkway in Jonesboro. The project will include increased parking, a new radiology addition and a two-story general addition totaling 65,000 square feet. Gresham, Smith and Partners is the architect of record. Construction is scheduled to begin this fall, with completion slated for January 2014.

CHICOPEE, SPRINGFIELD AND WESTFIELD, MASS. — Love Funding has arranged four loans totaling $23.7 million for the refinancing of a skilled nursing facility portfolio in Massachusetts. The properties include Willimansett Center East and Willimansett Center West in Chicopee, Chapin Center in Springfield and Governor's Center in Westfield. The Northeast Health Group Inc., a not-for-profit organization, acquired each of the properties in 1995. The buildings are operated by Airamid Health Management. Joshua Hausfeld of Love Funding secured the fixed-rate, 30-year loans through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's 232/223(f) loan program.

ST. LOUIS, MO. — A $5.8 million renovation for the eighth floor of the Shoenberg Pavilion on the Barnes-Jewish Hospital north campus is under way. The 23,000-square-foot project will be be completed in four phases. The project will create a new 25-bed patient division while relocating an Intensive Care Unit to a different location on the eighth floor. McGrath & Associates is the general contractor and construction manager on the project, which is slated for completion in May 2013. OWH Inc. is the architect.

DALLAS — Carter Validus Mission Critical REIT has acquired the 62,000-square-foot Baylor Medical Center, located at 3500 Gaston Ave. in Dallas, for $31 million. The medical center has been open for operation since January 2011, and features 24 in-patient beds, six operating suites, a four-room emergency department and an imaging suite equipped with X-ray, CT scanning and MRI capabilities.

COLLEGE STATION AND MARBLE FALLS — Duke Realty plans to develop two medical office buildings in College Station and Marble Falls for Scott & White Healthcare. Duke will develop a three-story, 66,500-square-foot Scott & White Specialty Care Clinic at the Wayne & Eileen Hurd Regional Medical Center at the intersection of U.S. Highway 281 and State Highway 71 in Marble Falls. The facility will house multiple primary care, urgent care and specialty/diagnostic clinics. Duke will also develop an adjacent 60-bed hospital. In addition, Duke will also develop a four-story, 120,000-square-foot College Station Clinic at the campus of a planned 143-bed acute care hospital at the intersection of State Highway 6 and Rock Prairie Road in College Station. The hospital will house OB/Gyn services, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, expanded rehabilitation/therapy services and a sleep center. The Marble Falls clinic is expected to open in the first quarter of 2013 and the adjacent hospital is slated for a fall 2014 opening. The College Station clinic is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2013.
