WAYNE, NEB. — Darland Construction has been selected to lead the planning and construction of the two-part expansion of Providence Medical Center, located at 1200 Providence Rd. in Wayne. The 25,000-square-foot addition will house a wellness and physical therapy center, and a separate 3,500-square-foot addition will provide expanded space for an outpatient department. Avant Architects is designing the expansion, and Specialized Engineering Solutions is the MEP engineer. Completion is slated for the summer of 2012.

TEMPLE — The new 148,000-square-foot Children's Hospital at Scott & White, a pediatric hospital serving 32 counties, has opened for business in Temple. The Children's Hospital offers 64 beds — 48 private and 16 Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Dallas-based HKS designed the facility, which is the only stand-alone pediatric facility between Dallas and Austin. The facilities include playrooms and an emergency department.

AUSTIN — Austin-based HTH Capital has demolished two office buildings to make way for the 62,000-square-foot Midtown Medical Tower, a mixed-use facility consisting of medical office and retail space, located at the intersection of 38th Street and Lamar Boulevard in Austin. The facility will include energy efficient operating systems, flexible floor plates and a covered patient drop-off area.

GLEN ROCK, N.J. — A joint venture between Morristown, N.J.-based The Hampshire Companies and Onyx Equities has sold a 48,000-square-foot medical office building, located at 85 Harristown Rd. in Glen Rock, to Hajjar Medical Group. Hampshire made capital improvements to the building in 2009, including new facades, windows, lobbies, landscaping, HVAC system, roof and restrooms. Frank Gunsberg of Colliers International's Parsippany, N.J., office represented both parties in the transaction.

LAFAYETTE, LA. — The 200-bed hospital and 104,000-square-foot medical office building Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, located at 4801 Ambassador Caffery Pkwy. in Lafayette, has opened. The development is Phase I of HOK's master planned 45-acre campus. In addition to the 200 beds, the 396,000-square-foot hospital contains eight operating rooms, 19 emergency rooms and 24 intensive care rooms. Lafayette-based The Lemoine Co. and Birmingham, Ala.-based Brasfield & Gorrie served as the construction managers for the project and Jefferson, Ind.-based The Estopinal Group was the architect for the medical office building.

NEW YORK CITY — Gramercy Surgery Center Inc. has purchased a 23,000-square-foot medical office property at 59-25 Kissena Blvd. in Flushing, Queens in New York City. The two-story property features 140 feet of street frontage along Kissena Boulevard. Colliers International's Brian Given, Steven Jaray and Sheena Gohil partnered with Brooklyn-based M.C. O'Brien's William O'Brien and Karen Cohen to represent the seller, EmblemHealth, in the transaction.

DENVER – The Sky Ridge Medical Center has signed a new orthopaedic practice, led by Dr. John Xenos. The first phase of the orthopaedic surgeon’s practice will consist of about 3,000 square feet that is set to open at Sky Ridge in September. It will reside within the Aspen Building, located at 10099 Ridge Gate Parkway in Lone Tree, Colo. Dr. Xenos, who plans to partner with orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Anthony Sanchez, is moving his practice from the Steadman Hawkins Denver Clinic to Sky Ridge. The new practice will be called Colorado Orthopaedics. Jecoah Byrnes, a leasing associate at CBRE, and Matthew Leiner, a leasing associate with CBRE Denver’s Healthcare Services, handled both sides of the transaction.

MIAMI — The 133-bed, 282,000-square-foot West Kendall Baptist Hospital, located at Kendall Drive and SW 157th Avenue in Miami, has achieved LEED Gold certification. MGE Architects was the lead architecture and design firm on the project, which cost $210 million. Green elements include open landscaped areas, water retention lakes for 100 percent irrigation, automatic building controls, low-flow plumbing fixtures, and energy efficient lighting and air conditioning systems.
