GARDNER, MASS. — William A. Berry & Son has topped out construction for a $27 million addition to Heywood Hospital in Gardner. The project will add 72,000 square feet of new construction to the hospital, consisting of the Watkins Acute Care & Emergency Center as well as two floors of inpatient facilities. Completion of the addition is slated for July 2010. The multi-phase project will also include the relocation of the CT and MRI services, renovations to the existing emergency room, the construction of a new clinical and oncology building, and renovations to the hospital's lobby and entryway.

ENGELWOOD, COLO. — Healthcare Trust of America Inc. has agreed to acquire Hampden Place Medical Center for approximately $18.6 million. Located near the Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, the new state-of-the art medical office building houses an ambulatory surgery center, medical imaging, physiotherapy and medical offices for orthopedic, hematology-oncology and related-physician practices.

MIAMI — Moss & Associates has completed construction of the 84,000-square-foot Leon Medical Centers – Flagler Project. The project was complete 8 months removed from the groundbreaking ceremony. The $22 million facility is located on 5 acres at 150 N.W. 79th Ave. in Miami. The property includes spaces for primary and specialty care, a pharmacy and dental, optical and diagnostic services. Coral Gables, Fla.-based MGE Architects designed the hospital.

FLORESVILLE, TEXAS — Marcus & Millichap has brokered the sale of Floresville, Medical Office Building, a 20,000-square-foot healthcare property located in Floresville. The building was constructed in 2005 and is situated at 497 Tenth St. Tanner McGraw of Marcus & Millichap's Houston office represented the seller, a Texas-based developer, and the buyer, a Texas limited liability company.

SAN ANTONIO — Construction has started for a new 88-bed patient tower at San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC) at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. The tower is part of Phase I of the $556 million SAMMC project, which will consolidate Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston and Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base, also located in San Antonio. SAMMC, which will have North and South campuses, will consist of renovations to the existing Brooke Army Medical Center, a new parking structure and a new central energy plant. The project, which was designed by RTKL to LEED-Silver specifications, will total 1.1 million square feet upon completion. The general contractor is a partnership between Clark Construction Group and Hunt Construction Group. Phase I completion is slated for fall 2011.

Broadway Ave. in Green Springs. The property offers 150 skilled nursing beds and 36 long-term acute-care beds. The 186,000-square-foot property includes a park, a pond, a courtyard, a chapel, a greenhouse, a multi-purpose gym, a therapeutic pool with adjustable floor, therapy spaces, a full basketball court and three dining rooms. The buyer was a local healthcare provider.

VISTA, CALIF. — Construction is now underway for Premier Crossing, a $20 million medical office park located at the corner of South Melrose Drive and Sycamore Avenue in Vista. Being developed by Brock Holdings and other undisclosed companies, the 10-building, 51,768-square-foot project will offer suites and buildings ranging in size from 2,400 to 6,292 square feet. The property, which was designed by Davis & Davis, features a contemporary exterior with granite-like burnished block, brushed aluminum accents and tinted high-performance glass. Richard & Richard Construction Co. is serving as general contractor for the project, which is slated for completion in June 2008.

SUN CITY AND SUN CITY WEST, ARIZ. — Healthcare Trust of America Inc. has agreed to purchase a 17-building medical office building portfolio in the northwest Phoenix area. Approximately 95 percent of the 641,000-square-foot portfolio is located on or adjacent to one of two major Banner Health hospital campuses. The purchase agreement, which should close within 45 days, provides the self-managed, non-traded REIT the opportunity to acquire two additional medical properties totaling approximately 60,000 square feet on the same campuses.

TINLEY PARK, ILL. — Pronger Smith MedicalCare is breaking ground for the construction of a 37,800-square-foot expansion at 17495 S. LaGrange Rd. in Tinley Park. The building expansion will include MRI, CT, physical therapy and treatment rooms, as well as expanded obstetrics and pediatrics facilities. Additionally, the project includes a renovation and expansion of the main reception area and a parking lot expansion. Completion is slated for July 2010.
