SAN DIEGO — McCarthy Building Companies Inc. has topped out the new five-story Acute Care Pavilion for Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego, which is located at 3020 Children’s Way in the Kearny Mesa area of San Diego. The 279,000-square-foot facility will feature 16 operating rooms with associated support departments, a 28-bed hematology and oncology unit, a 10-bed bone marrow transplant intensive care unit, a 32-bed neonatal intensive care unit and 84 acuity adaptable medical surgery beds. Situated on the southeast end of the Rady Children’s Hospital campus, the new $260 million facility will be connected to the existing facility by a bridge. San Francisco-based Anshen+Allen provided architectural services for the project, which is slated for completion in summer 2010.

SAN MARCOS, CALIF. — Newport National Corp., acting as developer, has broken ground on the Nordahl Medical Centre, a 55,450-square-foot, Class A healthcare facility, which is the first medical condominium project to be built in the San Marcos/Escondido area. The three-story building, which can accommodate suites ranging in size from 1,000 to 55,450 square feet, is situated less than 1 mile from the future Palomar Medical Center West hospital. The facility is slated for completion in April 2009. Featuring panoramic views of the area, the building will feature resort-quality bathrooms with floor-to-ceiling enclosed stalls on all three floors. TSA Contracting Inc. was awarded construction of the project, which was designed by McArdle Associates Architects. Mark Avilla, Matty Sundberg and Keith Olmo of Grubb & Ellis|BRE Commercial are the marketing and sales team for the healthcare development.
LAS VEGAS — Nigro Construction Inc., serving as design/build contractor, has started a tenant improvement project for the Center of Interventional Pain Therapies of Las Vegas, which is located at 5950 S. Durango Dr. in Las Vegas. Situated within the Crest Ridge Business Park, the 12,308-square-foot building was originally built by Nigro Construction in 2005/2006. Once the improvements are complete, the $2.8 million surgery center will feature two operating rooms with six recovery beds, seven exam rooms and a physical therapy room. Other project partners include KGA Architecture as architect, JBA Consulting Engineers as mechanical, plumbing and electrical engineer, and Barker Drottar Associates LLC as the structural engineer.
MENOMONEE FALLS, WIS. — NAI MLG Commercial has brokered the acquisition of 5.31 acres of land located at Pilgrim and Lisbon roads in Menomonee Falls. Pilgrim Group LLC has acquired the property from 333 North Plankinton Building Partnership for an undisclosed amount. The site will house a proposed two-building medical campus, with each facility measuring 27,800 square feet in size. Charlotte Zurn of NAI MLG Commercial represented Pilgrim Group LLC in the transaction.
LACOMBE, LA. — Construction is underway on Dallas-based The Cirrus Group’s 45,000-square-foot Louisiana Medical Center & Heart Hospital Medical Office Building, located next to the hospital’s new expansion tower at 64030 Louisiana Hwy. 434 in Lacombe. When the shell is completed in late 2008, the building will house a dialysis clinic and specialty offices for nephrology, hematology and oncology services. Tenants will move in by late March 2009.
EXPORT, PA. — Marcus & Millichap has completed the sale of Fresnius Medical Care Center, a 7,554-square-foot medical property located in Export, for $1.2 million. Fresnius Medical Care is the sole occupant of the building. Peter Nisbet of Marcus & Millichap’s Seattle office represented the undisclosed seller, and Frank Roti of Marcus & Millichap’s Chicago office represented the buyer, a Wisconsin-based party participating in a 1031 exchange.
WEATHERFORD, TEXAS — New York City-based Turner Construction Co. has broken ground for the $27 million expansion of Weatherford Regional Medical Center in Weatherford. Phase I of the multi-phase project will comprise a 50,000-square-foot expansion to the hospital and renovations to 15,000 square feet of existing hospital space. The expansion will add a 23-bed emergency room, a 12-bed intensive care unit, and a testing and diagnostic center to the hospital. The imaging, laboratory and pharmacy departments also will be expanded. Completion of Phase I is scheduled for November 2009. The Dallas office of Perkins + Will is serving as project architect.
NEW PORT RICHEY, FLA. — Kerry Walsh of Coldwell Banker Commercial Wikle Properties’ Palm Harbor, Fla., office recently represented both parties in Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital’s sale of a 17,600-square-foot medical office building to a local buyer for $2.5 million. Walsh represented both parties in the transaction for the building, located at 2114 Seven Springs Rd. in New Port Richey.
NEW HAVEN, CONN. — The Milford, Conn., office of Turner Construction Co. has been selected to provide construction management services for Yale University’s new $97 million Health Services Center located in New Haven. The 140,000-square-foot outpatient medical facility will be applying for LEED-Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Completion is scheduled for 2010.
WELLINGTON, FLA. — Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.-based Rendina Companies’ development of a four-story, 50,000-square-foot medical office building on the campus of Wellington Regional Medical Center in Wellington will begin in September. The building is currently more than 50 percent committed and is expected to deliver in the third quarter of 2009.
