ROMULUS, MICH. — J.S. Vig Construction Co. has broken ground for the construction of a new Hampton Inn Hotel & Suites, located at the intersection of Smith and Merriman roads in Romulus. The six-story, 78,904-square-foot hotel will contain 126 guestrooms. Amenities will include a pool, a spa, a large breakfast area and a conference room. Completion is scheduled for February 2010.

NEW ORLEANS — InterContinental Hotels Group has opened the 181-room Holiday Inn New Orleans West Bank Tower, marking the first hotel in New Orleans to utilize Holiday Inn’s new design. The design upgrade, part of a $1 billion brand relaunch program, includes updated signage, enhanced guest rooms and a slew of new service-oriented goals. Hotel amenities include 2,000 square feet of meeting space, a restaurant, a fitness center and a pool.
LONG BRANCH, N.J. — Bungalow, a new 26,000-square-foot boutique hotel is slated to open in May in Long Branch. The $5.5 million, four-story hotel is part of Pier Village, a mixed-use development designed by Minno & Wasko Architects and Planners and built by Applied Development Company. The Miami-inspired hotel will offer 24 rooms that feature custom hardwood flooring and millwork, 10-foot ceilings, unique interior designs, king-size beds, gas fireplaces, wet bars, high definition TVs, iPod players, and luxury baths with dual vanities. Three corner guestrooms will contain 1,100 square feet of space with all of the above amenities in addition to two bedrooms, two baths, a dining room and distant ocean views. Another corner unit will feature a private outdoor terrace. Hotel amenities include a bar and lounge area with antique pool and foosball tables, a fireplace, an outdoor terrace with a fireplace and a bakery. The exterior of the hotel is clad in an aluminum skin with wood accents while the interior is mostly white to provide bright, inviting spaces and a beach aesthetic. NEW YORK CITY — New York-based Tribeca Associates LLC has opened The Smyth, a 14-story boutique hotel located at 85 West Broadway in the Tribeca neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. The hotel features 100 rooms and the Jour et Nuit restaurant, as well as a separate bar and lounge. The hotel is operated by Thompson Hotel.
MOKENA, ILL. — Construction has been completed for St. James Recovery Center, a new 14,734-square-foot medical project located at 19110 S. Darvin Dr. in Mokena. The facility is an addition to the existing Southwest Surgery Center. St. James Recovery Center features 5,450 square feet of space for surgical patient recovery, including four private rooms and 24-hour nursing care. It also includes 9,284 square feet devoted for future medical office space. Principle Construction Corp. served as design/build contractor for the project, with Harris Architects providing architectural services. The project was developed by Quadrangle Development for a partnership between St. James Hospital and Health Centers.
CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Mumford Co. has arranged the sale of the Super 8 Motel located in Charles City. David Mumford and Ed James of Mumford Co.’s Newport News, Va., office and Lance Potter of the firm’s Chicago office represented the seller, Supertel Hospitality. The property was acquired by HR Corporation of Iowa for an undisclosed amount. This transaction marks the 28th hotel sold by Mumford Co. on behalf of Supertel in the past 10 years, as well as the third hotel that Mumford has sold to the principals of HR Corp.
HOUSTON — HREC Investment Advisors has arranged the sale of the Hampton Inn & Suites Cypress Station, a 74-room hotel located in Houston. The property was acquired by an out-of-state owner/operator from a Houston-based developer. The buyer also acquired an land parcel adjacent to the Hampton Inn for a future hotel development. The acquisition price was not disclosed.
BRUNSWICK, GA. — Atlanta-based Hotel Equities has opened the 97-room Hampton Inn & Suites-Brunswick. The property is located at 128 Venture Dr. in Brunswick. The hotel features an indoor pool and an exercise room. Amenities include free high-speed Internet, and each guest room is equipped with a flat-screen TV.
HOMEWOOD, ALA. — Construction will commence on a 94-room Homewood Suites by Hilton in the next year, with an eye toward completion in 2011. The property will be located at the intersection of Interstate 65 and Lakeshore Drive in Homewood. The property will feature a fitness center, an outdoor pool and 1,000 square feet of meeting space. When complete, the hotel will be the ninth Homewood Suites in Alabama.
MARTINSVILLE, VA. — Innkeeper of Martinsville has sold a 70-room Holiday Inn Express to Philadelphia-based Martinsville Hospitality for an undisclosed price. The 33,000-square-foot property is located near the Martinsville International Raceway in Martinsville. The hotel features an outdoor pool and a sundeck. The buyer plans to reposition the hotel as a Comfort Inn and renovate the property. Anthony A. Falor of Atlanta-based Hodges Ward Elliott represented the seller in the transaction, and Martinsville Hospitality was represented internally.
