ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD. — St. John Properties will start construction on the first phase of the 150,000-square-foot Glen Burnie Crossing, located at the intersection of Dover Road and Ritchie Highway, this spring. The first phase, which is slated for delivery in the third quarter, consists of three buildings totaling 100,000 square feet. The remaining 50,000 square feet will be spread across two buildings to be constructed after pre-leasing requirements are met. The 30-acre Glen Burnie Crossing is geared toward automotive repair shops and automotive parts dealers with a portion of space allotted to restaurants and service-oriented retailers.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rockville, Md.-based Opus East has completed the 127,000-square-foot Opus Hall, a residence hall located on The Catholic University of America’s campus in Washington. The building was constructed to LEED standards and has the capability to house 402 students in 79 suites, each of which consists of three single rooms and one double room. Every floor of the residence hall features kitchens and common areas. Additional amenities include a first-floor lounge, a laundry room and a study area.

ORLANDO, FLA. — MetroWest Commercial Partners has sold the 32,908-square-foot MetroWest Shoppes to an affiliate of Orlando-based The Miller Group for $11.95 million. Tenants housed in the property, which is located at 3120 Kirkman Rd. in Orlando, include Washington Mutual, FedEx Kinko’s and Verizon Wireless. Bill Strauss and Dave Donnellan in CB Richard Ellis’ Boca Raton, Fla., office, Dan Baker and Mark Drazek in the firm’s Orlando office and Todd Weintraub in the Miami office represented the seller.

BOCA RATON, FLA. — Office Depot will open its 625,000-square-foot corporate headquarters, located at 6600 N. Military Trail in Boca Raton, on Jan. 16. The property sits on 28 acres, encompassing three office buildings that are linked by glass-enclosed atriums. Coral Gables, Fla.-based Flagler Development Group oversaw all aspects of construction, which began in early 2007.

HOLLYWOOD, FLA. — CORFAC International has announced its elected officers for 2009. Newly-appointed President Jeff Graham of Jacksonville, Fla.-based King Industrial Realty of Florida will help usher in the alliance’s 20th year, and Owen Rouse, Jr., of Columbia, Md.-based Manekin will serve as vice president. Other appointments include Memphis, Tenn.-based Crump Commercial’s Charles Sevier as treasurer; Los Angeles-based The Klabin Company’s Douglas Marshall as secretary; and the at-large members Kevin Crowley of West Des Moines, Iowa-based Iowa Realty Commercial and Kevin Santaularia of Dallas-based Bradford. ORLANDO, FLA. — Orlando-based Avalon Park Group has entered the design phase for a 309-unit senior housing complex in Orlando’s Avalon Park neighborhood. The 250,000-square-foot property will feature 225 independent living units and 84 units designated for assisted living. Construction of the four-story building is slated to begin in early 2010. When complete, Avalon Park will encompass nearly 5,000 residences and 500,000 square feet of commercial development.

HUNTSVILLE, ALA. — HPC Properties has purchased a 99,197-square-foot office building triple-net leased to Science Applications International Corp. for $15.85 million. The property, which is located at 6725 Odessey Dr. in Huntsville, was built in 2007. Chad O’Connor of Irvine, Calif.-based Mark One Capital provided $8.9 million in financing for the purchase. Joshua Volen and Andrew Slade of Marcus & Millichap’s San Diego office and Edwin Greenhalgh of the firm’s Birmingham, Ala., office represented the buyer.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Ohio-based E.O. Johnson has purchased the 124-unit Sedgefield Square Apartments from Greensboro-based Brown Investment Properties for $4.9 million. The property is located at 4215 Bernau Ave. in Greensboro. Hal Kern represented Brown Investment in house, and Nat Taylor of Winston Salem, N.C.-based Taylor & McChesney Commercial Properties represented E.O. Johnson.

BARNWELL COUNTY, S.C. — Greer, S.C.-based InSite Consulting has finalized a site selection assignment for Pittsburgh-based Horsehead Corp.’s $87 million facility in Barnwell County. The property will serve as a recycling point for electric arc furnace dust. The facility, which will be Horsehead’s seventh in the United States, will generate at least 65 new jobs. The property is expected to be fully operational by mid-year.
