SAN ANTONIO — The McNay Art Museum in San Antonio has reopened after the completion of a $33.1 million expansion that has added 45,000 square feet to the museum. Known as the Jane and Arthur Stieren Center for Exhibitions, the new wing is a two-story structure with an outdoor sculpture garden. The wing contains the 7,500-square-foot Tobin Exhibition Galleries, which allows the museum to host traveling exhibitions for the first time. The Stieren Center also contains the museum store, a reception hall, an indoor sculpture gallery, four additional galleries, a 225-seat lecture hall and two learning centers. French architect Jean-Paul Viguier served as the project’s lead architect; Texas-based TBG designed the outdoor sculpture garden and other exterior features. New York-based Paratus Group served as project manager, and San Antonio-based Ford Powell & Carson served as executive architect.
