MCKINNEY, TEXAS — Touchmark, an Oregon-based seniors housing owner-operator, will develop an 81-acre project in the northern Dallas suburb of McKinney. Designed by architectural firm three, Touchmark at Emerald Lake will be built in two phases. The first phase will consist of 149 independent living apartment homes, six casitas (duplex residences), 84 assisted living units and 32 memory care residences. Project partners include Andres Construction (general contractor), StudioSix5 (interior design), Kimley-Horn (civil engineer) and Talley Design (landscape architect). Completion of Phase I is scheduled for 2023.

BELLEVUE, WASH. — Vulcan has broken ground on Ondina, a 1.4-acre development site at 13238 NE Spring Blvd. in Bellevue. Located near the future location of BelRed/130th Light Rail Station, Ondina will feature 249 apartments, with 20 percent of the units designated rent- and income-restricted for households earning up to 80 percent of the area median income. The property is slated to open in early 2024. Runberg Architecture Group is serving as architect and Exxel Pacific is serving as general contractor of record for the project.
ELMONT, N.Y. — New York Arena Partners, a group comprised of Oak View Group, Sterling Project Development and the New York Islanders, has completed construction of UBS Arena, a 745,000-square-foot venue in the Long Island community of Elmont that will serve as the NHL team’s new home. Designed by Populous and JRDC Urban Architecture specifically for hockey and music events, the 17,250-seat arena features a seating bowl that is pushed further toward the ice than in standard basketball-first arenas. The design team also added certain elements to limit sound reverberation and echoes throughout the venue. UBS Arena also includes 10 bars, a 23,000-square-foot locker room and players’ campus, weight and equipment rooms, training areas, offices and video rooms. Musical artists playing at the venue will have access to private spaces with lounges, dressing rooms and dedicated dining areas.
HOPEWELL, N.J. — BeiGene, a global biotech firm that develops cancer medicines, will open a 400,000-square-foot life sciences facility in Hopewell, a suburb of Trenton. The manufacturing and research facility will be situated on a 42-acre site within the Princeton West Innovation Campus that was previously owned by pharmaceutical giant Bristol Myers Squibb. Lincoln Equities Group owns Princeton West Innovation Campus. Construction is expected to begin in 2022 and to be complete in late 2023 or early 2024.
CHICAGO — Draper and Kramer Inc. has opened Wrigleyville Lofts, a 120-unit apartment complex located at 949 W. Dakin St. in Chicago’s Wrigleyville neighborhood. Additionally, Lakeview Ace Hardware, which occupied the single-story structure that previously stood on the development site, has reopened in the building’s first-floor retail space. The store’s owner, Joe Lomanto, is also a minority owner in the development. Sullivan, Goulette & Wilson Architects designed the seven-story project, which is situated near Wrigley Field. There are 108 one-bedroom units and 12 two-bedroom units. Monthly rents start at $1,700. Amenities include a rooftop deck, coffee area, private clubroom, fitness center, bike storage, parking garage and meeting spaces. Leopardo Construction was the general contractor. Gershman Mortgage arranged project financing.
ATLANTA — Songy Highroads (SHR) will open the Hyatt Centric Buckhead Atlanta, a 218-room hotel located in Atlanta’s Buckhead district. The hotel will open in mid-December adjacent to Bloomingdale’s at Lenox Square. In early 2020, Atlanta-based SHR started to develop the hotel in a joint venture with Hyatt Hotels Corp. New York-based Sawyer & Co. designed the hotel. The Hyatt Centric Buckhead Atlanta hotel has two dining options both run by James Beard Award-winning chef Hugh Acheson. One of the dining options is Mount Royal, a Montreal-style steakhouse. The menu combines French cooking techniques with Southern cuisine, and will change often based on seasonal vegetables, fruit and other ingredients sourced from local farmers and artisans. The other dining option, Spaceman, will anchor the hotel’s 15th floor rooftop. Spaceman is a bar and sports lounge with a menu of shareable bites plus wine, beer and cocktails. The dining option will offer indoor seating plus dual outdoor patios, as well as yard games and TVs to stream live sports and events. LINCOLNWOOD, ILL. — AECOM-Canyon Partners and Tucker Development are underway on the development of District 1860, a multifamily and retail project in the Chicago suburb of Lincolnwood. Plans call for 299 multifamily units, an Amazon Fresh grocery store and more than 40,000 square feet of additional retail and restaurant space. Pacific Western Bank provided a senior construction loan. Completion is slated for 2023.
NEW YORK CITY — Taconic Partners and National Real Estate Advisors (NREA) will develop a 33-story multifamily building at 312 W. 43rd St. in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood. Designed by Handel Architects, the project will consist of 330 rental units, 40,000 square feet of retail space and 30,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor amenity space. The amenity package will include a pool, rooftop terrace, workspaces and private gardens. Avison Young arranged $204 million in construction financing through The Union Labor Life Insurance Co. for the project, completion of which is slated for mid-2024.
SILVER SPRING, MD. — BKV Group has designed Artspace Silver Spring Arts Campus, a mixed-use development in Silver Spring featuring affordable housing and studio space for artists. The development cost for the project was $32 million. Construction of the project took about 18 months to complete, and now the project is open. Formerly the Third District Police Station, Artspace Silver Spring Arts Campus has workspaces for artists to rent out studio space and is anchored by 7,500 square feet of communal space. BKV Group worked with nonprofit developer Artspace, as well as the Montgomery County Department of Housing and Community Affairs, to redevelop the building into a creative hub. The project includes 68 affordable housing units that are intended for local artists. Rental restrictions include households whose income is below 60 percent of Area Median Income, with some units having further restrictions to income at or below 50 percent or 30 percent of AMI. The rental units feature one-, two- and three-bedroom floorplans with hardwood-style flooring, stainless steel appliances, in-unit washers and dryers and full-size balconies available in select floorplans. DAVIS, CALIF. — Construction is underway on Orchard Park, a 1,600-bed student housing community located on the University of California, Davis campus. The property will target graduate students, offering units at below-market rates. The community is scheduled for completion in fall 2023. Orchard Park is Phase II of a larger development named The Green at West Village, which is being built through a public-private partnership between the university and Michaels. Phase I of the project delivered 1,000 beds in fall 2020, and included nine four-story buildings with shared amenities including a fitness center, multipurpose room and student support services.
