NEW YORK CITY — Locally based investment firm Rudin Management Co. will renovate 80 Pine Street, a 1.2 million-square-foot office building located in Manhattan’s Financial District. The project will upgrade the lobby and mechanical systems and implement various measures to promote health and wellness, including heightened air filtration and circulation and touchless entry systems. JLL will handle leasing of the redeveloped property.

HUNTSVILLE, ALA. — Mazda Toyota Manufacturing will invest an additional $830 million in its automotive plant in Huntsville. The two automakers originally formed a joint venture and announced the project in 2018. The total cost of the facility is now $2.3 billion, and the joint venture plans to train and house up to 4,000 employees at the property, having hired 600 employees to date. The new facility will have the capacity to produce up to 150,000 units of a future Mazda crossover model and up to 150,000 units of the Toyota SUV each year. The plant is situated 14 miles from Toyota’s existing manufacturing facility. Production is expected to begin in early 2021 with construction on roofing, siding, floor slabs, ductwork, fire protection and electrical now more than 75 percent complete.
OLATHE, KAN. — McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. has completed construction of the new Johnson County medical examiner facility in Olathe. The 32,000-square-foot, single-story building is located at 11894 S. Sunset Drive in the heart of the Johnson County Government Campus. The $21 million project was designed to meet the highest standards of the National Association of Medical Examiners. The facility will help increase autopsy rates and provide data for public health officials to assist in identifying trends and emerging diseases. The project team included PGAV Architects, SmithGroup, Henderson Engineering, McClure Engineering and Confluence.
OAK BROOK, ILL. — J.C. Anderson has completed office renovations totaling 53,111 square feet for ReaderLink at The Crossings in Oak Brook. J.C. Anderson added private offices, open office cubicles, coffee stations, private restrooms, conference rooms and a meeting space. The work was completed in phases. ReaderLink distributes hardcover, trade and paperback books to booksellers in North America. Ware Malcomb served as architect. JLL oversaw construction management. The office is located at 1420 Kensington Road.
VanTrust Buys 76.4-Acre Site Along Loop 303 in Arizona, Plans 660,000 SF Industrial Park

GLENDALE, ARIZ. — VanTrust Real Estate has purchased 76.4 acres of land along the Loop 303 corridor at Sarival Road and Maryland Avenue in Glendale. The company plans to break ground on a 660,000-square-foot speculative industrial building on the site in October. Upon completion, scheduled for June 2021, the facility will feature 40-foot clear heights, clerestory glass for natural light and ample auto and trailer parking, as well as access to Loop 303, Northern Parkway and Interstate 10. Jim Wilson of Cushman & Wakefield is marketing the property. Terms of the acquisition were not released.
Gardner Capital Opens Affordable Seniors Housing Community with On-Site Food Pantry in Phoenix

PHOENIX — Gardner Capital has completed construction of El Caro Apartments, a 102-unit affordable senior apartment complex in Phoenix. The property also features a food pantry on-site. Gardner Capital worked with the City of Phoenix Housing Department and the Arizona Department of Housing, as well as financial partners Citibank and Enterprise Community. Kitchell served as the general contractor. “We recognized the dual needs for seniors housing and food pantries when developing this site with the aim of creating comfortable, flexible living spaces while reducing food insecurity in the Phoenix area,” says Michael Gardner, president and CEO of Gardner Capital.
AUSTIN, TEXAS — BAE Systems, a British multinational aerospace and defense contractor, will open a $150 million office and manufacturing campus in Austin’s Parmer Business Park. The company is working with Karlin Real Estate to develop the 390,000-square-foot campus, which will also offer research and development and lab space. BAE Systems’ Austin campus will house about 1,400 employees who will primarily support the U.S. Department of Defense. Completion is scheduled for 2022.
RACINE, WIS. — CG Schmidt has broken ground on an adaptive reuse project at the site of the historic Horlick Malted Milk Co. plant in Racine, about 25 miles south of Milwaukee. The project will transform the industrial complex into 136 market-rate and affordable apartment units. The first $40 million phase will revamp buildings located at 2100 and 2200 Northwestern Ave., which date back to 1875. State and federal historic tax credits will help developer J. Jeffers finance Phase I. AG Architecture is the project architect. The Horlick plant shut down in 1975.
CHICAGO — Skender has completed interior construction of the 55,000-square-foot headquarters for the American Library Association in Chicago. Located on a single floor at 225 N. Michigan Ave., the office features a mix of private and open workspaces, meeting and focus spaces, podcasting and video conferencing rooms and a library. Skender collaborated with architect Nelson Worldwide, engineer Environmental Systems Design and owner’s representative Cushman & Wakefield.
BOSTON — Nauset Construction has broken ground on ēbo Condominiums, a 49-unit multifamily project in East Boston that will also include 3,630 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Designed by Bargmann Hendrie + Archetype Inc., the property is located at 205 Maverick St. near the MBTA Blue Line Maverick station. Floor plans will consist of 12 studio, 17 one-bedroom and 20 two-bedroom units, seven of which will be designated as affordable. Completion is scheduled for fall 2021.
