YPSILANTI, MICH. — This summer, multiple construction projects are underway at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. Sill Hall, the home of the renamed College of Engineering and Technology, is undergoing a $40 million renovation with completion set for fall 2020. A $16 million project at Olds-Robb Recreation and Intramural Complex involves extensive improvements to fitness and training areas as well as a new entrance and gathering spaces. Earlier this month, workers finished the $20 million student-athlete performance center, which consisted of a new two-story structure adjacent to the north end zone of Rynearson Stadium. The project includes a new weight room, athletic training and meeting rooms, offices and a scoreboard. At the northwest end of campus, construction is underway on a $14 million, two-building health project that is a collaboration between the university, St. Joseph Mercy System and Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA). One of the buildings will be a community health center staffed by IHA while the other will house university programs. Completion is set for January 2020. Integrated Design Solutions served as the architect for Sill Hall and the performance center. CARMEL, IND. — Cornerstone Cos. Inc. has completed the development and construction of a 38,537-square-foot medical office building for Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine in Carmel. The build-to-suit facility comprises medical office, treatment and administrative services. The building sits along U.S. 31 in the Meridian Corridor and includes covered physician parking. Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine specializes in neurosurgery.

HOUSTON — Wood Partners, a multifamily development and investment firm with offices around the country, has broken ground on Alta River Oaks, a 364-unit multifamily project in Houston. Located at 3636 W. Dallas St., the property is situated near an array of shopping and dining establishments, as well as the Buffalo Bayou hiking and jogging trails. Floor plans will consist of one-, two- and three-bedroom units with stainless steel appliances, quartz countertops, custom backsplashes and individual washers and dryers. Amenities will include a pool, fitness center and outdoor kitchen areas. Alta River Oaks is slated to open in the fourth quarter of 2020.

MINNEAPOLIS — Timberland Partners has opened the $53.8 million Green on 4th apartment community in the Prospect Park neighborhood of Minneapolis. Green on 4th, or G4, features 243 units. Amenities include a rooftop deck, resident lounge, game room, yoga studio, fitness center, dog run, bike storage and automated package center. Located at 2949 4th St. SE, the project is part of the Towerside Innovation District, billed as a model of environmentally sustainable urban planning. The apartment project is a joint venture with Prospect Park Properties. Tushie Montgomery Architects served as the project architect and Frana Cos. was the general contractor.

SOUTH BEND, IND. — KTGY Architecture + Planning has revealed the design of the Barnes & Thornburg Building, a new office development in downtown South Bend. Law firm Barnes & Thornburg LLP will anchor the project. Co-developed by Great Lakes Capital, Bald Mountain LLC and Norris Equity Partners, the five-story building will be situated at 201 S. Main St. It marks the first downtown Class A office project in nearly 20 years. The project, consisting of 35,531 square feet of office space and 6,537 square feet of street-level retail space, is slated for completion in summer 2021.

SAN FRANCISCO — For the second time in a week, the San Francisco Planning Commission has approved a significant mixed-use development in the city’s SoMa (South of Market) district. Following its approval of the Flower Mart redevelopment project, the commission has approved a 1.1 million-square-foot mixed-use development located at 88 Bluxome St. The project, led by developers Alexandria Real Estate Equities Inc. (NYSE: ARE) and TMG Partners, is nearly 60 percent preleased. The co-developers describe 88 Bluxome as a “high-tech office and laboratory project.” Social media giant Pinterest has signed on to anchor the development with a 490,000-square-foot office lease. The Bay Club, a fitness and social club offering events and a wide range of sports classes, will also anchor the project. The 88 Bluxome campus will feature a technology and life science facility with ground-floor retail space and outdoor deck space on multiple levels of the building. The project also includes an expansion of the neighborhood’s existing Gene Friend Recreation Center, adding two swimming pools and a public activity space. GRESHAM, ORE. — Wood Partners has broken ground for Alta Civic Station, a multifamily property located at 1699 NW Civic Drive in Gresham, an eastern suburb of Portland. Slated to open spring 2021, Alta Civic Station will feature 318 market-rate units in a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom layouts, as well as live-work townhome-style units. Community amenities will include a community room with kitchen and social areas, fitness center, co-working, meeting space and ground-floor retail. Additionally, the project includes a half-acre public plaza adjacent to the Civic Drive MAX Light Rail station. The public plaza will feature outdoor gathering spaces and a children’s play area.

The community is Fore’s fifth multifamily property in metro Portland. Holst Architecture designed the project. Located at 3309 N. Mississippi St., The Revere features 211 apartments in a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom layouts. Units feature kitchens with stainless steel appliances, gas cooktops, quartz countertops, under-cabinet lighting and porcelain tile backsplash. Other unit features include wood-style plank flooring, in-unit washers/dryers, walk-in closets and private balconies or patios. FORT WORTH, TEXAS — Hillwood is underway on construction of Tacara Village, a 332-unit multifamily community that will be located within the company’s 26,000-acre AllianceTexas campus in Fort Worth. The property will offer 14 different floor plans and will feature smart locks and thermostats from provider Dwelo. Amenities will include a pool, outdoor kitchen, fitness center, pet park, game room and access to nearby walking trails and parks. Phase I of the project will open later this summer, and full completion is slated for early 2020.

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, ILL. — CA Industrial, the industrial investment and development division of CA Ventures, has broken ground on CA Elk Grove, a 146,029-square-foot speculative warehouse in Elk Grove Village. The Class A project will sit on seven acres at 550 E. Devon Ave. Slated for completion in the first quarter of 2020, CA Elk Grove will feature a clear height of 32 feet, 18 loading docks and parking for 135 cars. The new warehouse is being constructed on the site of an existing retail center. A portion of the retail space, 7,800 square feet, will remain as retail. The other portion was rezoned as industrial. Established businesses Tata’s Pierogi and La Spa Nails will be relocated to renovated space within the retail center. They will join Subway, Peking Express and Fatt Mustard Café, which will remain in their current locations. The retail property will receive a new façade, signage, roof and resurfaced parking lot. Harris Architects Inc. is the architect and Pepper Construction is the general contractor.
