MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF. — Search engine giant Google has announced a heavy investment in the state of Texas. The company has broken ground on a new $600 million data center in Midlothian. The project will serve as Google’s first data center in Texas. The tech firm has also executed two new office leases in Austin where there are already 1,100 Google employees working across various platforms including Android, G Suite, Google Play, Cloud and general office functions like operations and marketing. Google has leased space at Trammell Crow Co.’s Block 185 project in downtown Austin. The Austin American-Statesman reports that Google will lease the entire 35-story tower, which is located at West Cesar Chavez and Nueces streets. The newspaper also reports that Google has leased seven stories of office space totaling 150,000 square feet within the Saltillo mixed-use project. Local developer Endeavor Real Estate Group is building the East Austin project and will serve as Google’s new landlord. These new commitments are part of Google’s larger $13 billion investment in offices and data centers across the United States that was announced back in February.

WHITELAND, IND. — Jones Development Co. has broken ground on a 2.4 million-square-foot industrial business park in Whiteland, south of Indianapolis. Known as Whiteland Exchange, the development will include speculative industrial buildings designed for logistics, advanced manufacturing and other uses. The project will be situated at the intersection of I-65 and Whiteland Road in Johnson County. The initial two speculative buildings, one spanning 436,800 square feet and the other 168,480 square feet, are slated for delivery in the first quarter of 2020. Sean McHale and Peter Seoane of Avison Young will market the park for lease.
KINGSTON, N.Y. — The New York State Department has approved a proposal from HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley to transform and expand its hospital in Kingston, a project that is valued at roughly $92.9 million. Project plans call for the construction of a new, 79,000-square-foot building that will house 175 beds and an emergency care center and a full renovation of the existing 48,000-square-foot space. An exact construction start date has yet to be determined, but the department’s approval represents the final hurdle to be cleared in green-lighting the project, according to the development team.
CHICAGO — Skender has completed construction of Chicago’s newest Hyatt House extended-stay hotel. The 14-story, 167,000-square-foot property is located in the heart of Chicago’s Fulton Market neighborhood at 105 N. May St. Amenities include an indoor pool, bar and lounge and green roof features. The hotel also includes a third-floor lobby and first-floor retail space. The pool, workout center and lounge are situated on the 14th floor. The 200 guest rooms are on floors four through 13. Sterling Bay developed the hotel. Eckenhoff Saunders Architects served as the project architect.
COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA — Healthcare real estate developer NexCore Group has opened the 37,800-square-foot CHI Health Clinic Valley View in Council Bluffs. A ribbon cutting ceremony took place on Thursday, May 30, and the facility opened to patients on Monday, June 3. Services provided at the 60-room clinic include behavioral health, women’s services, pediatrics, urology, dermatology, diabetic education, radiology, ultrasounds and physical therapy. Darland Construction Co. served as general contractor.
ANCHORAGE — Columbia Sussex has completed a multi-million-dollar renovation at Hilton Anchorage, located at 500 W. Third Ave. in downtown Anchorage. The project included upgrades to the lobby, dining establishments, guest rooms, fitness center and conference spaces. The renovated guestrooms include work stations with desk-level electrical outlets and high-speed internet access, The Bed by Hilton bedding systems, Hilton alarm clock radios with MP3 Player plug-ins, Cuisinart single-serve/dual-cup coffee makers, back-lit vanities, full-length mirrors, showers with rain showerhead fixtures and 49-inch televisions. The hotel also features 11 suites and more than 50 Club Level executive rooms. Hotel amenities include a fitness center, indoor pool, hot tub, Kaladi Brothers Coffee, Hooper Bay Café, Bruins Bar and 23,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space. Crestview Hills, Ky.-based Columbia Sussex has owned and managed the hotel since 2006.
HOUSTON — Locally based multifamily developer MORGAN has begun leasing Pearl Marketplace, a 264-unit multifamily property in Houston’s Midtown district that includes a 40,000-square-foot Whole Foods Market on the ground floor. The grocery space is currently under construction and expected to open during the first quarter of 2020. Pearl Marketplace offers studio, one- and two-bedroom units with hardwood flooring, custom cabinetry, quartz countertops and smart thermostats. Communal amenities include a dog park and wash station, as well as a resort-style pool with a sun deck, poolside cabanas, grilling stations and TVs. A fitness center that overlooks the pool area will offer a variety of circuit and cardio equipment.
PHILADELPHIA — Developer Chris Todd is nearing completion of The View at Old City, a 216-unit multifamily project in Philadelphia that is valued at $90 million. Located at the corner of Fourth and Race streets, the community is being developed at the site of the former home of Francis Hopkinson, a signer of the Declaration of Independence who designed the first official American flag and first U.S. coin. The property will offer a variety of different types of pet-friendly, open floor plans, from studios to two-bedroom units ranging from 441 square feet to 1,257 square feet. Amenities will include a pool, fitness center with a yoga studio, media room, outdoor grilling area, package locker service and a dog park. The View at Old City is expected to be available for occupancy in August.
PLEASANT PRAIRIE, WIS. — Zilber Property Group is developing an industrial build-to-suit for Bio Fab Technologies Inc. in Pleasant Prairie. The 50,000-square-foot facility will be situated within LakeView Corporate Park. Kenosha-based Bio Fab is a provider of custom stainless-steel equipment and components for the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, semiconductor, architectural and food and beverage industries. Groundbreaking is scheduled for this summer with completion in spring 2020. Project partners include Riley Construction, Pinnacle Engineering Group, Partners in Design Architects, raSmith and Electrical Contractors Inc.
