Woodborn Partners to Develop $16M Housing Project in Detroit

DETROIT — The city of Detroit has selected Woodborn Partners to develop a new mixed-income housing project in the Hubbard Richard neighborhood and Mexicantown Business District of southwest Detroit along the border of Corktown. The site, currently vacant land, sits adjacent to Michigan Central Station, the former train depot that Ford Motor Co. is transforming into a campus. The $16 million project will include 60 new apartment units, as well as 5,000 square feet of retail space and 40 parking spaces. The four-story development will also include outdoor amenities. The project is in one of 10 neighborhoods of the Strategic Neighborhood Fund, a fund dedicated to neighborhood development. Construction is expected to start later this year, with completion slated for late 2020. Detroit-based Woodborn has other multifamily projects underway within the city.

PCCP Provides $14.7M in Equity for 75-Unit Apartment Development in Bay Area

SUNNYVALE, CALIF. — PCCP has invested $14.7 million of preferred equity, in a joint venture with Bay West Development and Lane Properties, for the construction of 311 Mathilda, a multifamily development in downtown Sunnyvale. Located at 311 S. Mathilda Ave., the five-story property will feature 75 Class A apartment units in a mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom layouts and 4,860 square feet of ground-floor retail space that a Denny’s restaurant is expected to occupy. On-site amenities will include an outdoor courtyard with barbecues, dining terrace, fire pit and lounge seating; a fitness center with an additional exterior courtyard for group activities or classes; a two-story tenant clubhouse; a rooftop deck and lounge; and 54 bike parking spaces. Completion is slated for early 2021.

L. Keeley Construction, HDA Architects Complete Corporate Headquarters for ADB Cos. in Missouri

PACIFIC, MO. — L. Keeley Construction and HDA Architects have completed a new corporate headquarters for ADB Cos. in Pacific, about 35 miles west of St. Louis. The project consists of a 36,852-square-foot office building and a 24,137-square-foot maintenance building. Features include exposed ceilings, concrete floors, wood-accent walls, a two-story lobby entrance and a lounge space. ADB Cos. provides solutions for the communications, utility and technology industries. ADB Cos. and L. Keeley Construction are part of St. Louis-based Keeley Cos.

Comcast Spectator to Build $50M Esports Arena in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA — Comcast Spectator and partner The Cordish Cos. have unveiled plans to build a $50 million Esports Arena in South Philadelphia. The sports facility will serve as the home arena for the Philadelphia Fusion of the international Overwatch League. The arena will be constructed near the city’s other major sports stadiums. The 60,000-square-foot building will include seating for 3,500 and will contain 10,000 square feet set aside for training facilities and team offices. Construction is expected to begin this summer and be completed in 2021. Kansas City-based firm Populous will serve as lead architect.

Urban Spaces Breaks Ground on Mixed-Use Development in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. — Urban Spaces has broken ground on Kendall East, a four-story, 136-unit, mixed-use development in the Kendall Square neighborhood of Cambridge. The project is located at 99-119 1st St., 18 Hurley St. and 29 Charles St. Designed by architectural firm Perkins Eastman, the development will also include 15,000 square feet of retail as well as 23 parking spaces. Construction is slated for completion in 2020.

Cullinan Properties Breaks Ground on Rock Run Crossings in Joliet, Illinois

JOLIET, ILL. — Cullinan Properties Ltd. has broken ground on Rock Run Crossings, a 265-acre mixed-use project in Joliet. Cullinan is underway on clearing the site and plans to begin construction late this spring. A groundbreaking ceremony took place on Friday, March 22. Cullinan has also revealed the first anchor tenant at Rock Run Crossings. The 16-screen Regal Cinemas movie theater will span 70,000 square feet. The developer plans to announce more tenants later this year.

Kraus-Anderson Set to Break Ground on New Hospital Wing at Hutchinson Health in Minnesota

HUTCHINSON, MINN. — Kraus-Anderson is scheduled to break ground on a new hospital wing at Hutchinson Health in Minnesota on Monday, April 1. The one-year construction project will expand the hospital’s footprint by more than 17,000 square feet and will include 18 new patient rooms that are twice as big as the current rooms. Wold Architects and Engineers designed the expansion. Hutchinson Health, a part of HealthPartners, is located about 60 miles west of Minneapolis. The hospital currently has 66 beds and is classified as a Level 4 trauma center. It provides initial evaluation, stabilization, diagnostic capabilities and transfer to a higher level of care. A Level I trauma center offers the highest level of surgical care for trauma patients.

CapRock Delivers, Sells 140,000 SF Industrial Development in Inland Empire

CORONA, CALIF. — CapRock Partners has completed the construction and sale of Temescal Valley Commerce Center, a Class A industrial building in Corona. Brothers International Desserts, a Southern California-based ice cream manufacturer, acquired the property for an undisclosed price. Situated on 9.4 acres along Interstate 15, the 140,000-square-foot facility features 32-foot clear heights, 11 high-dock doors, two ground-level doors, eight excess trailer parking stalls, office suites and 90 parking spaces. The building also features immediate access to the Dos Lagos on/off ramp and a private queuing lane to enable vehicles to quickly move through the property. Fullmer Construction provided general contracting services for the development. Austin Hill, Jeff Ruscigno and Jeff Smith of Lee & Associates brokered the transaction.

GM to Invest $300M, Add 400 Jobs at Michigan Plant for Electric Vehicle Production

ORION TOWNSHIP, MICH. — General Motors is investing $300 million in its Orion Township assembly plant to produce a new Chevrolet electric vehicle. The investment will bring 400 new jobs to the plant, which is located approximately 40 miles north of Detroit. The announcement is part of GM’s new commitment to invest a total of $1.8 billion in its U.S. manufacturing operations, creating 700 new jobs and supporting 28,000 jobs across six states. The Orion plant currently builds the Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle, along with the Chevrolet Sonic and test vehicles for the Cruise autonomous vehicle.
