NEW ALBANY, OHIO — Blue Horseshoe Ventures Ltd. has unveiled plans to develop Planet Oasis, a combined entertainment, attraction, action sport, food and beverage and health wellness venue. Project costs are estimated at $2 billion, according to local media reports. The 350-acre development will be located at the intersection of I-71 and State Route 36 in Delaware County and Berkshire Township near Columbus. Plans call for a 200,000-square-foot UltraStar Multi-tainment Center, which will house bowling, laser tag, video games, virtual golf, a movie theater and sports restaurant and bar. It will also house a “Uni-coaster” within a glass cylinder that will extend 150 to 200 feet in the air. Other attractions will include a 90,000-square-foot go-kart venue, a 10,000-square-foot indoor skydiving experience and a shooting gallery. The Mirage Entertainment District will be built around Lake Mirage, a 20-acre saltwater lake with sand beaches. The District will also feature an indoor waterpark and an indoor sports facility. The project will feature at least 15 hotels offering 4,000 rooms as well as 75 restaurants. A wellness resort known as Bloom will feature a 100-key hotel on its own lake. FRISCO, TEXAS — Irving-based multifamily developer JPI has broken ground on Jefferson at The Gate, a 425-unit apartment community in Frisco. The Class A property is located within The Gate, a master development by Dubai-based Invest Group Overseas that upon completion will include 650,000 square feet of office space, 130,000 square feet of retail space and a luxury hotel. Amenities at Jefferson at The Gate will include two pools, a fitness center and yoga studio, access to walking trails and concierge services. The first units are expected to be available for occupancy during the first quarter of 2020.
DORAL, FLA. — Trammell Crow Residential, in partnership with AvalonBay Communities Inc., has unveiled plans to develop a 350-unit apartment community located at the corner of N.W. 36th Street and N.W. 79th Avenue in Doral, roughly 16 miles northwest of Miami. The residences will be part of a horizontally integrated mixed-use development that will feature 80,000 square feet of retail, which is under development by the Terra Group. The site currently houses the 139,000-square-foot Atrium Office space. Demolition of the property is scheduled for later this month. The community will include a mix of one- to three-bedroom apartment units and will feature a pool, park and bike path. Trammell Crow and AvalonBay expect to wrap up construction in 2020.
CHICAGO — Baker Development Corp. has completed ELEVATE Lincoln Park located at 930 W. Altgeld St. in Chicago. The 11-story luxury apartment building includes 191 units. The property features a pool, grill area, demonstration kitchen, fitness center and dog run. Floor plans include studios, one- and two-bedroom units, as well as penthouse units. Monthly rents start at $1,985.
HUTCHINSON, MINN. — Kraus-Anderson has completed a $2.1 million expansion for Hutchinson Health. The 9,600-square-foot project includes a new 5,103-square-foot cancer center as well as a cardiac rehab area and on-call suites. The property is located at 1095 Highway 15 South in Hutchinson, about 60 miles west of Minneapolis. Designed by Wold Architects and Engineers, the expansion triples the size of the existing center and integrates all of Hutchinson Health’s cancer services into one location. The project includes three additional exam rooms, six infusion therapy rooms and a procedure room.
DETROIT — Bridging North America, a partnership of Fluor and ACS Infrastructure Canada, was selected to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Gordie Howe International Bridge project for Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority. The planned bridge and border crossing will span the Detroit River and connect Detroit to Windsor, Canada by linking I-75 and I-96 with the new extension of Highway 401 in Ontario. When complete, the bridge will be the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America. The scope of the project also includes building new ports of entry on both the U.S. and Canadian side of the Detroit River as well as improvements to existing infrastructure. Early work will start this summer in advance of financial close, which is set for this fall. Fluor and ACS will operate and maintain the facility for 30 years to performance standards that will be established by WDBA following completion.
ASHEVILLE, N.C. AND MT. PLEASANT, S.C. — Go Store It has broken ground on two new self-storage developments in Asheville and Mt. Pleasant. The Charlotte, N.C-based company specializes in the acquisition, development and management of self-storage assets throughout the country. The project in Asheville will feature more than 600 units and will be fully climate controlled. The development is located in the Woodfin submarket, just north of the city’s downtown. Go Store It owns three existing facilities in Asheville and is underway on another along Hendersonville Road. The self-storage facility in Mt. Pleasant is Go Store It’s third facility in the city and its fifth in the greater Charleston market. Located at the corner of Gregorie Ferry Road and Highway 17 North, the three-story building will be fully climate controlled and will feature more than 400 units. Go Store It’s other Charleston locations include a recently opened facility at Long Point Road, as well as facilities under construction at Johnnie Dodds, Folly Road, Maybank Highway and downtown Charleston. A construction timeline for the new facilities was not disclosed. Go Store It plans to break ground on five more developments this year in Charlotte, Cary, Louisville, Ky., and Fredericksburg, Va.
LOS ANGELES — KFA, a Santa Monica-based architecture firm, has started construction of The Curve @ West Angeles Senior Apartments, an affordable community in the Park Mesa Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. The development is a project of West Angeles Community Development Corp. and Related Cos. of California. The 52,777-square-foot, five-story building consists of a total of 70 apartments reserved for seniors, with 40 low-income units, 29 very-low-income units, and 1 market-rate manager’s unit. The development is located just two blocks north of the Crenshaw/Slauson Station in Park Mesa Heights, which is currently under construction and slated to open in 2019.
ST. LOUIS — McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. has completed a 47,000-square-foot subterranean expansion and renovation of the Museum of the Gateway Arch. This is the final component of a $380 million redevelopment of the monument in downtown St. Louis. McCarthy also oversaw the transformation of the north and south grounds surrounding the Arch. The renovated museum and visitor’s center opened to the public on Tuesday, July 3. A new circular entrance and upper-level lobby replaces the previous underground entrances at the base of each leg of the Arch. The landmark remained open and fully operational throughout the three-year construction project. Cooper Robertson, James Carpenter Associates and Trivers Associates designed the museum expansion. Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates oversaw the landscape design. Gateway Arch Park Foundation and the National Park Service led the Gateway Arch Park redevelopment projects. Built as a monument to the westward expansion of the United States, the 630-foot Arch was completed in 1965.
RELAY, MD. — Guinness will open a new U.S. brewery in Relay, 10 miles south of Baltimore, on Friday, Aug. 3. The Guinness Open Gate Brewery & Barrel House represents an $80 million investment and is expected to create 160 new jobs. The brewery will be the first Guinness presence in the United States since 1954 and the first ever purpose-built Guinness brewery in American history, according to the company’s website. The facility will feature public tours, taproom tastings, a 270-seat restaurant and a merchandise shop. Guinness Draught and other stouts will be brewed exclusively in its home country of Ireland and imported to the U.S., but the Maryland team will take over production of Guinness Blonde and experiment with new beers influenced by American and Maryland brewing traditions. Guinness is a brand within Diageo Beer Co. USA, the U.S. beer and flavored malt beverage business of London-based Diageo. Brands under Diageo’s flag include Tusker, Senator Keg Lager, Kilkenny Irish Cream Ale, Johnnie Walker, Crown Royal, Bulleit and Buchanan’s whiskeys, as well as Smirnoff, Ciroc and Ketel One vodkas.
