BELTON, MO. — Christie Development has broken ground on the $63 million second phase of construction for the Belton Gateway in Belton, about 20 miles south of Kansas City. The retail property consists of more than 182,000 square feet of developable space. Infrastructure, pad site preparation and road reconstruction are underway, with the first restaurant slated to open later this year and five new retailers set to open in early 2018. The future home of Kneaders Bakery & Cafe is under construction on the southeast corner of the 47-acre, $136 million mixed-use development. Ross Dress for Less, Marshalls, Party City, Petco and Five Below will also open at the property. Phase I construction included a 58,000-square-foot Academy Sports + Outdoors, a 55,000-square-foot Hobby Lobby and two multiple-tenant retail buildings that are home to Belton Family Dental Care, Fazoli’s and Cricket Wireless.

CHICAGO — General contractor J.C. Anderson Inc. has completed a lobby renovation at One North Franklin, otherwise known as PNC Centre, in Chicago. The project consisted of installing marble flooring throughout all of the elevator vestibules, large floor-to-ceiling specialty glass panels as well as new elevator wall sconces. Designed by architects Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, PNC Centre is a 36-story, Class A office building. Completed in 1991, the property features 617,592 square feet of office and retail space. Matt Kantro and Dan Dunn of J.C. Anderson led the project team. Gensler provided architectural services.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. — Morgan, in conjunction with institutional investors advised by J.P. Morgan Asset Management, has broken ground on Pearl Flagler Village, a 350-unit apartment community located at 400 N.E. 3rd Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. Situated along the Wave Streetcar line within Flagler Village, a mixed-use development, the project will include a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans. The seven-story property will also feature a business center, fitness center, yoga studio, gas grill stations, dog park and a heated saltwater pool. The first units of the development are slated to open in the second half of 2018.

The property is located less than half a mile from Texas State University. Amenities include a pool, clubhouse, game room and a fitness center with a sauna.

OAKLAND, CALIF. — Trammell Crow Residential and KTGY Architecture + Planning have broken ground on Alexan Webster, a mixed-use development being built on a parking lot at 2330 Webster St. in the Lake Merritt neighborhood of Oakland. Designed by KTGY, the 1.4-acre redevelopment project will feature a 234-unit apartment community, 15,000 square feet of street-front retail space and a public and residential parking garage. The $135 million sustainable development will also feature 5,000 square feet of indoor amenity and leasing office space, as well as a lap pool, business center, 24-hour fitness center, outdoor kitchen, bicycle repair center and storage and a rooftop deck. The residential component will feature a mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments ranging in size from 610 square feet to 1,160 square feet. Completion is slated for summer 2019.

BOLINGBROOK, ILL. — Peak Construction Corp. has completed the Marriott Residence Inn located in Bolingbrook, a southwest suburb of Chicago. Peak provided design-build services for the 103-room extended-stay hotel. Amenities at the four-story, 77,000-square-foot property include a swimming pool, outdoor patio and multi-purpose sport court. Norr Architects served as the project architect, while Manhard Consulting Ltd. provided civil engineering services. Love Hotel Management Co. will manage the property.

OAK BROOK, ILL. — Michael Jordan’s Restaurant has opened in Oak Brook, about 20 miles west of Chicago. Executive chef Craig Couper, who also heads the kitchen at Michael Jordan’s Steak House in downtown Chicago, prepares some of Jordan’s signature items, including prime Delmonico ribeye steaks. In addition to lunch and dinner, the restaurant features made-to-order coffee brewed by Metric Coffee. Michael Jordan’s Restaurant seats 150 diners, not including the 90-seat bar and 68-seat patio. Chicago-based DMAC Architecture designed the restaurant. Cornerstone Restaurant Group oversees all seven Michael Jordan-branded restaurants.

BEAVERTON, ORE. — Co-developers MorningStar Senior Living and Confluent Senior Living have broken ground on MorningStar of Beaverton, a 104-unit assisted living and memory care community in the Portland suburb of Beaverton. The community is scheduled for completion in September 2018, with an information center opening onsite early in the year. Situated on 5.25 acres, the 97,653-square-foot development will offer 66 suites for assisted living and 38 suites for memory care. This will be MorningStar’s first community in Oregon. The project represents the 12th joint venture between affiliates of MorningStar, a Denver-based senior living developer, owner and operator, and Confluent Senior Living, a subsidiary of Denver-based real estate investment and development firm Confluent Development. Confluent is the project owner and MorningStar will serve as the operator. Local firms involved in the project include LRS Architects and LCG Pence Construction. Thoma-Holec Design, based in Mesa, Ariz., will serve as interior designer.

NASHVILLE, TENN. — JE Dunn Construction has unveiled plans for a six-story, $120 million parking garage at Nashville International Airport, the first element of the airport’s $1.2 billion expansion plan. The project will replace an existing structure and provide 2,000 parking spaces, sensors to let drivers know what spaces are available and a passenger pick-up and drop-off hub for taxis, limos, shuttles and ride-sharing services. The garage will feature eco-friendly elements including an upper-level solar array, rainwater harvesting system and a green screen vegetation wall. Atkins is the architect of record for the project, which is slated for completion in fall 2018.
