AUGUSTA, GA. — Starbucks has unveiled plans to expand its soluble plant in Augusta. The $120 million expansion will add 140,000 square feet to the current 180,000-square-foot facility, nearly doubling the size of the operation. Starbucks opened the plant in July 2012. It is the first company-owned facility in the world to produce Starbucks soluble products. Located roughly 20 miles south of Fort Gordon, the plant currently employs 185 Starbucks partners, one in six of which are armed forces veterans or military spouses. The expansion will bring up to 100 new jobs to the facility. Construction on the property is slated for completion in fall 2019. On the retail front, Starbucks plans to add 12,000 stores globally by 2021, bringing the total number to 37,000.

CHAMBLEE, GA. — Real estate development firm Connolly has added seven new tenants to the 45,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space at Parkview on Peachtree, a new mixed-use development in the Atlanta suburb of Chamblee. Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, a pediatric clinical care provider, will open a 10,000-square-foot facility with 12 exam rooms and two procedure rooms at the development. The Alden, a 2,275-square-foot upscale-casual restaurant, and Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar, a 3,700-square-foot burger chain, will also join as the project’s newest restaurants. The other four tenants include Noire The Nail Bar, Atlanta Spine and Wellness, The Piedmont Bank and Cookie Cutters Haircuts for Kids. Parkview on Peachtree is slated to open later this year.

CHICAGO — Hines has broken ground on Wolf Point East, a 60-story, 698-unit luxury apartment tower in Chicago. Wolf Point East is the second phase of the three-phase development designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli. The tower is located on one of the last remaining riverfront sites in downtown Chicago. Hines is developing the property in partnership with the property’s longtime landowner, the Joseph P. Kennedy Family, and the AFL-CIO Building Investment Trust, advised by PNC Realty Investors. Bank of America Merrill Lynch led the construction loan financing for the project in conjunction with ULLICO, Citizens Bank and ING Real Estate Finance. Walsh Construction is serving as the general contractor and Pappageorge Haymes Partners is the architect of record. Completion is slated for 2019.

HOBOKEN, N.J. — Bijou Properties and Intercontinental Real Estate Corp. have broken ground for a multi-faceted project located at 700 Jackson St. in Hoboken. The project will include a 424-unit residential rental building, a state-of-the-art 6,835-square-foot public gymnasium and a two-acre resiliency park, which is designed to withstand and recover from storm and catastrophic flooding. Designed by Marchetto Higgins Stieve Architects, the 14-story residential building will feature 90,000 square feet of upscale amenities, including a penthouse pool and roof deck, and 25,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. The two-acre park will include an open grass area, children’s playground and public plaza. Completion of the project is slated for mid-2019.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio-based developer StrEat Park LLC has broken ground on Brooklyn StrEat Food Park, a $2.5 million project located at 201 Burnet St. in San Antonio. Scheduled to open in January 2018, according to Rivard Report, the food park will feature nine food trucks and a full-service bar, provide indoor and outdoor seating for about 450 people and stage live music.

ST. CHARLES, MO. — IMPACT Strategies has completed Cedarhust of St. Charles, a $17.5 million seniors housing community in St. Charles. The 100-unit assisted living and memory care community is part of University Commons, a mixed-use development directly across from Lindenwood University. IMPACT served as construction manager for the 99,999-square-foot project. Dover Development was the developer. Cedarhurst’s proximity to Lindenwood University makes it the first seniors housing community in the St. Louis region to strategically locate on or near a university campus, according to IMPACT.

PASADENA, TEXAS — Clay Development & Construction has broken ground on Phase II of Energy Commerce Business Park, a 45-acre industrial park located along Sam Houston Parkway near Highway 225 in the Port Houston submarket. Phase II will deliver two buildings: a 101,400-square-foot, rear load facility and a 232,960-square-foot cross-dock warehouse/distribution center. Both buildings are slated for an early 2018 completion. Phase I of construction, which was completed in 2016, delivered two buildings totaling 287,560 square feet that are 70 percent leased to tenants such as DNA Motoring, Cintas First Aid & Safety and JGB Enterprises.

BUFFALO GROVE, ILL. — Principle Construction Corp. has completed a 157,000-square-foot industrial building in Buffalo Grove. The property is situated on an 11.8-acre site at 850 Asbury Drive. Principle demolished a 55,000-square-foot vacant building onsite in order to build the new facility, which features 32-foot clear heights, 36 truck docks, four drive-in doors and parking for 173 cars. To accommodate storm water, Principle built landscaped retaining walls and two detention ponds. Michael Long, Rick Grabowski and Mark and Matt Frane of Principle served as the project team. Harris Architects provided architectural services and Jamie Putnam of Kimley-Horn and Associates served as project engineer. Ridgeline Property Group’s Pete Harmon marketed the building for its owner, USRLP Asbury Drive LLC.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Smart Living Development, formed by KSNY and Strategic Properties, has broken ground for the development of Nest Micro Apartments, located at 184-190 Academy St. in Jersey City. The property will feature 122 fully furnished apartments, all of which are studio units less than 300 square feet, with rents starting at less than $1,300 per month. On-site amenities include coffee house/lounge, laundry facilities, bike storage, a gym, a roof deck lounge with grill and outdoor showers and storage units. Leasing is slated to commence in August 2018.

Siemens-Walpole-MA

WALPOLE, MASS. — Siemens has broken ground on a 300,000-square-foot expansion and renovation at Siemens Healthineers, a manufacturing and R&D facility in Walpole, about 27 miles southwest of Boston. Over the next four years Siemens plans to invest $300 million in the facility, which was built in 1979 and last renovated and expanded in 2007. The project scope will include manufacturing, warehouse, office and laboratory space. The expansion will generate 700 new high-tech, permanent jobs, bringing the total employment at the site to between 1,300 to 1,600 by 2026.
