AUSTIN, TEXAS — Capital Metro and a partnership between Endeavor Real Estate Group and Columbus Realty Partners have broken ground on Plaza Saltillo District, an 11-acre, transit-oriented development near downtown Austin. The project will transform an abandoned site into a mixed-use community that will feature roughly 800 apartment units, 140,000 square feet of office space, 110,000 square feet of retail space and 1.4 acres of open public space. Multiple public transportation systems will serve the property. A time frame for delivery has not yet been established.

ONTARIO, CALIF. — Skechers USA Inc., a footwear manufacturer, has opened its largest Skechers mall-based factory outlet store. The 24,000-square-foot store is located at Ontario Mills in Ontario. The store features dedicated shops for the various Skechers lifestyle and performance collections for men and women, an kids area complete with theater and a shop dedicated to the brand’s apparel collection. The Ontario Mills Skechers superstore joins a retail portfolio that includes large-format stores in Las Vegas and Gardena, Calif., plus flagship stores in locations such as Los Angeles’ Hollywood & Highland, Times Square in New York, San Francisco’s Powell Street, London, Tokyo, Shanghai and other cities around the world. At the end of the second quarter of 2017, Skechers had 2,055 stores worldwide, with 584 being company owned.
Partnership Breaks Ground on $17M Affordable Housing Redevelopment in Upper Dublin, Pennsylvania

UPPER DUBLIN, PA. — Montgomery County Housing Authority (MCHA) and Pennrose Properties have partnered to redevelop North Hills Manor, an affordable housing property in Upper Dublin. The $17 million project includes the demolition of the existing 50-unit public housing development, which was originally built in 1954, and the construction of 50 new apartments ranging from one- to four-bedrooms located in 17 residential buildings. Additionally, the development will feature a shared building featuring a community room, computer lab and property management offices. The new units will feature modern kitchens, including dishwasher, spacious closets, ceramic-tiled bathrooms, resident-controlled heating and cooling, and in-unit washers/dryers.
TAMPA, FLA. — Strategic Property Partners LLC (SPP) has unveiled plans for Water Street Tampa, a $3 billion mixed-use development located on the Garrison Channel and Hillsborough Bay in downtown Tampa. SPP is a real estate investment joint venture between Cascade Investment LLC and Jeff Vinik, owner of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Spanning 50 acres, the community will comprise more than 2 million square feet of office space; 1 million square feet of retail, cultural, educational and entertainment space; 3,500 new rental and for-sale residences and two new hotels totaling more than 650 rooms, including the city’s first five-star hotel. In addition, SPP donated an acre of land to the University of South Florida, which will relocate its Morsani College of Medicine and Heart Institute from its current suburban campus to a 380,000-square-foot facility in downtown. The development also includes over $200 million in new infrastructure. Roadway and public utility work began in the summer of 2016, and a new central cooling facility will break ground in the fall. MERIDIAN, MISS. — Home2 Suites by Hilton Meridian, part of Hilton’s All Suites portfolio, has opened at 201 N. Frontage Road in Meridian. The 97-room hotel is designed for travelers who want to maintain their normal routine, and features fully equipped kitchens, modular furniture, a fitness center, pool, fire pit and grill area, market for grab-and-go items and complimentary daily breakfast. Inn Alliance LLC owns the property and Lala Enterprises handles management.
DURHAM, N.C. — Terwilliger Pappas Multifamily Partners has broken ground on Solis Brightleaf, a 194-unit apartment complex located on West Main Street in downtown Durham. The property sits next to Brightleaf Square, a mixed-use community, and is less than two miles from Duke University. Solis Brightleaf will offer studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans and feature an outdoor beer garden, clubroom with a veranda, fitness center, yoga studio and a heated pool. Pittsburgh-based First National Bank is providing construction financing for the project, and Clancy & Theys Construction Co. is the general contractor. The design team includes Cline Design Associates and engineering and landscape architecture firm Stewart.
KANSAS CITY, MO. — Integrated Facility Services (IFS) has installed a $3.2 million plumbing system for the 51st and Oak mixed-use development in Kansas City. The eight-story, 325,000-square-foot complex includes 170 luxury apartments, a clubhouse and fitness center, student health center, Whole Foods grocery store and parking garage on a nearly three-acre site. IFS participated early in the design process, which featured virtual design and construction planning and building information modeling technology. Van Trust Real Estate is the developer, HOK is the architect and The Weitz Co. is the general contractor for the $40 million project, which is slated for completion in December.
HKS, Clark Construction Unveil Plans for Mixed-Use Community at University of California San Diego

SAN DIEGO — HKS and Clark Construction have unveiled plans for North Torrey Pines Living and Learning Neighborhood, a mixed-use community located in the center of the University of California San Diego campus. Designed for LEED Platinum certification, the development will house 2,000 students and feature seven mixed-use buildings that offer a combination of living, learning, community and administrative facilities. Additional features will include 1,200 parking spaces and pedestrian- and bike-friendly pathways. HKS is the lead design architect and the architect of record. Other team members include design firm Safdie Rabines Architects and landscape architect OJB. The project is slated for completion in August 2020.
LAS VEGAS — Dunkin’ Donuts has opened a new location inside Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas in partnership with travel industry retailer Hudson Group. The newly opened Las Vegas location is one of more than 20 Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants operated by Hudson Group. The restaurant can be found on the first floor of the hotel near the main entrance and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Dunkin’ Donuts has been strategically expanding in contiguous markets across the country with a long-term goal of having more than 17,000 restaurants in the United States alone. This expansion includes more than 750 alternative points of distribution, including college campuses, hotels, mass transit stations, travel centers, supermarkets, entertainment centers and military bases. DESOTO, TEXAS — Tailored clothing manufacturer Trybus Group has opened its new 145,106-square-foot headquarters in the Dallas metro of DeSoto. The property features 7,783 square feet of office space and about 137,000 square feet of warehouse space. The warehouse includes 32-foot clear heights, 22 truck bays and more than eight miles of custom-designed railways. Bob Moore Construction served as general contractor on the project.
