ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. — BBS Architects, Landscape Architects and Engineers has completed the renovation and expansion of South Side High School for the Rockville Centre Union Free School District located on Long Island. BBS served as the architect; interior designer; technology designer; and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineer for the project. The school is located at 140 Shepherd St. in Rockville Centre. The $26.6 million South Side High redevelopment was a part of a $45.9 million school improvement bond issue that was approved by local voters in 2013. BBS’s project team included architect Roger P. Smith, project manager Kenneth Schupner, designer Tracy Hansen and construction administrator Peter Dawkins. Park East Construction served as construction manager.

PHOENIX — McFarlin Group has acquired 6.9 acres of land in Phoenix for the development of an assisted living and memory care community. HealthSouth Corp. sold the plot for $2.7 million. Avison Young’s Julie Johnson and Alexandra Loye represented the seller in the transaction, while D.L. Slaughter Co. represented the buyer. The community, to be named Mariposa Point at Algodon Center, is slated for groundbreaking in late 2017 and completion in early 2018. Surpass Senior Living will operate the property once completed. The parcel is located within the Algodon Medical Center and across from Banner Estrella Medical Center. The property is expected to include more than 80 units of assisted living and memory care and will be licensed for approximately 120 residents.

VISTA, CALIF. — W Designed Developments has acquired a 2.6-acre plot in Southern California, with plans to develop a seniors housing community on the site. Irwin Dubinksy Living Trust and Kissinger Family Trust sold the property for $1 million. Al Apuzzo and Matt Weaver of Lee & Associates – North San Diego County represented sellers while Weston Harmer represented the buyer. The site is in Vista, located between San Diego and Los Angeles. Details on the proposed seniors housing facility were not released.

ALLEN, TEXAS — Kaizen Development Partners has broken ground on Phase I of One Bethany at Watters Creek, a Class A office park located at the corner of Bethany Drive and Watters Creek Boulevard in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro of Allen. Texas-based architecture firm BOKA Powell designed the initial phase of the project, which includes a 125,000-square-foot office building with a 570-space parking garage. Delivery of the building, which will feature a conference room, fitness center and tenant lounge, is expected within 12 months.

NEW CANEY, TEXAS — Hobby Lobby has opened a new store in Valley Ranch Town Center, a 240-acre, 1.5 million-square-foot mixed-use development in New Caney, a city roughly 30 miles north of Houston. The Signorelli Co., a Houston-area builder, developed the property, which is situated within the 1,400-acre, master-planned community of Valley Ranch on Grand Parkway near Interstate 69. Valley Ranch Town Center, which also includes a 13,500-seat amphitheater and 1,000 multifamily residences, is the largest retail project currently underway in the Houston area.

ALPHARETTA, GA. — Hines and Cousins Properties have executed a 34,000-square-foot, 11-year lease transaction with Spaces, a co-working office space provider owned by Regus. Spaces will occupy the first two floors of 8000 Avalon, a nine-story, 224,000-square-foot office building underway within Boulevard East, the second phase of the Avalon mixed-use development in Alpharetta. Hines and Cousins entered into a joint venture to develop the $73 million office building, which will also be home to Microsoft. David Demarest, Brannan Moss and Jennifer Ziegler of JLL represented Spaces in the lease deal. In other Avalon news, Apple has confirmed plans to relocate the Apple Store at nearby North Point Mall to Boulevard East. The new store will open at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 13.

HOLLYWOOD, CALIF. — The first location of Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville restaurant has opened its doors at Universal CityWalk. The more than 20-year-old Universal CityWalk, located in Hollywood, recently invested in an extensive revitalization. Enhancements currently underway include new restaurants, shopping experiences and design features to its multi-million dollar Universal Cinema renovation. This undertaking coincides with Universal Studios Hollywood’s recent transformation in which 75 percent of the theme park was reimagined. Margaritaville launched its first restaurant location in Key West, Fla., in 1987. Today, the company features nine resorts/hotels across the Southeast and Caribbean and eight additional locations in development; four gaming locations; and more than 60 food and beverage locations including concepts such as Margaritaville Restaurant, JWB Prime Steak and Seafood, 5 o’Clock Somewhere Bar & Grill and LandShark Bar & Grill, among others.

The first residents are moving into the property, which features one- and two-bedroom apartments, as well as studio and penthouse units. YOO on the Park is Trillist’s first YOO-designed property completed in the United States. The community features a pet spa, social programs for residents, bike storage, personal equipment lockers, 24-hour fitness center, outdoor exercise terrace, yoga studio, saline pool and lounge, outdoor kitchen, deck with life-sized chess set, library, conference room, juice bar, billiards lounge, golf simulator, gaming theater, on-site dry cleaning and laundry service and in-home package and dry cleaning delivery services.

CHICAGO — The Park at Wrigley is set to open next week in Chicago. Hickory Street Capital, a real estate development company owned by the Ricketts family, designed and built the Park at Wrigley as well as the office and retail building adjacent to Wrigley Field to provide a year-round, family-friendly gathering place for neighbors, Cubs fans and visitors. Slated as Wrigleyville’s true town square, the area will play host to community festivals, farmers markets, music and dining throughout the year. Several retail tenants will anchor the Park at Wrigley development, including a Starbucks store with a Reserve coffee bar, a two-story tavern-style restaurant, a new flagship Cubs Store, a Jostens retail jewelry concept and a viewing area presented by Motorola for the Chicago Cubs’ 2016 World Championship Trophy. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on Monday, April 10. The Ricketts family owns the Chicago Cubs.

PHOENIX — Sagewood, a luxury continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in North Phoenix, has broken ground on The Estates, a new neighborhood at the community. The expansion will include 24 new standalone homes as well as a 44-unit assisted living building, a 13,000-square-foot events center, a reconfiguration of the main entrance and new parking areas. Development partners on the project include Life Care Services, Westminster Capital and the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce. Sagewood currently features 292 units spanning the continuum of care, along with two clubhouses and on-site Acacia Health Center that recently doubled in size.
