JACKSON, MISS. — Newk’s Eatery, a fast-casual restaurant chain based in Jackson, has signed a 10-unit development agreement in Virginia with Red Alpha Holding LLC, a long-time Five Guys Burgers & Fries multi-unit operator. The northern Virginia-based operator will open 10 locations in Fairfax and Arlington counties over the next six years. Red Alpha will open the first location next year, marking the chain’s entry into Virginia. Now in its 12th year of business, Newk’s Eatery serves made-from-scratch sandwiches, salads, soups and pizzas. Red Alpha Holding is the third multi-unit franchisee to sign with Newk’s Eatery in 2016. Combined, the new franchisees will open more than 30 new restaurants in the next four years, consistent with the company’s goal to reach 200 units by 2019.

LOMBARD, ILL. — Lifespace Communities Inc. has completed the $19 million expansion and renovation of Beacon Hill, a continuing care retirement community in Lombard, approximately 20 miles west of Chicago. The expansion added a 28,000-square-foot building to the community featuring a new theater and lounge, multiple dining venues, a kitchen and culinary preparation space, and various activity areas for entertainment and wellness functions. Beacon Hill is 32 years old and hosts more than 500 residents in its 360 apartments homes and undisclosed number of memory care and skilled nursing suites. Construction on the new building and renovations began in 2014. Chicago-based Walsh Construction was the contractor for the project, which Minneapolis-based Tremain Architects & Planners designed.

STATE COLLEGE, PA. — CA Student Living, a division of CA Ventures, and Liberty Mutual have commenced construction on RISE at State College, a 12-story grocery-anchored student housing development located at 532 E. College Ave. in State College. Located across from the Penn State University campus, the 575-bed project is scheduled for completion in summer 2018. The property will feature a mix of studio, one-, two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom floor plans ranging in size from 400 to 1,500 square feet, a 16,500-square-foot Urban Market grocery store, and retail and amenity space on the first and second levels. Additionally, the project will feature a mix of graduate housing, professional residences and student housing. Leonard S. Fiore Inc. will serve as the project’s general contractor, with Boston-based Shepley Bulfinch as the architect of record.

LEAWOOD, KAN. — Restoration Hardware Holdings Inc. has opened a 56,000-square-foot design gallery at Town Center Plaza in the Kansas City suburb of Leawood. RH Leawood offers three levels of artistic installations of home furnishings in a gallery setting, including an entire floor dedicated to the company’s RH Modern line with an integrated RH Contemporary Art Gallery. The new location features a 5,000-square-foot studio called the Design Atelier, which offers a fully integrated workspace for architects, designers and customers to reimagine one room or an entire home. Architect James Gillam of Backen, Gillam & Kroeger designed RH Leawood.

BROWN DEER, WIS. — New Perspective Senior Living has opened New Perspective | Beaver Creek, a 158,712-square-foot seniors housing community in the Milwaukee suburb of Brown Deer. The community features 87 independent and assisted living units, and 48 memory care apartments, as well as a warm-water pool, fitness center, multiple dining options, computer labs and more. Other partners on the project included Harrison Street, RNT LLC, Tushie Montgomery and Design 2 Construct.

HOUSTON — The Wedge Group has completed the $10 million capital improvement campaign at 1415 Louisiana, a 43-story, Class A office tower located in Houston’s central business district. Updates to the property include a new main lobby with Italian stone, new building entry and canopy and updated monument signage. The renovated lobby features a custom glass wall designed by architectural glass artist Paul Housberg. Elevator cabs in the tunnel-connected Clay Street parking garage were also refinished. Built in 1983 and last renovated in 1993, the tower spans 520,000 square feet. On-site amenities include a deli, 200-person conference facility and executive dining with The 43rd Restaurant. The Wedge Group, a private equity investment firm specializing in acquisition investments, owns 1415 Louisiana, which has 170,000 square feet of office space available. Chip Colvill, Connor Saxe and Vince Strake of Colvill Office Properties lead the leasing effort on behalf of WEDGE Group, while Hines manages the facility.

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Daniel Corp. has held the ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening of Haywood Reserve, a $35 million multifamily development located in Greenville. Slated for full completion in October, the 292-unit community is currently 25 percent pre-leased. The project will feature one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans, as well as custom closets, showers with full tile surrounds and frameless glass doors, stainless steel appliances and high-end lighting and plumbing fixtures. Community amenities will include a 5,000-square-foot clubhouse, resort-style saltwater pool with a sundeck, outdoor kitchen, fitness center, pet spa and a dog park. Daniel Corp. is developing Haywood Reserve in partnership with CNL Growth Properties. First Commercial Bank, an affiliate of Synovus Bank, is providing the construction financing. The project team includes Wakefield Beasley and Associates, Hall Engineering, McLeod Landscape Architects and C.F. Evans Construction.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. — Bridge Development Partners LLC has selected PREMIER Design + Build LLC to construct two warehouses in Fort Lauderdale totaling 306,855 square feet. The assets will be located at Sunrise Boulevard and I-95 and offer nearly 400 parking spaces. Both warehouses will feature 32-foot clear heights, 58 truck dock positions, three drive-in doors, ESFR sprinkler systems and TPO roofing systems. Ytiel Lopez is the project manager and Chuck Rugila is the field superintendent from PREMIER Design + Build Group, and RLC Architects is providing architectural services. Samantha Cristiano, Tony Hoover and Larry Genet of CBRE are the leasing agents for the project. Flynn Engineering is the civil engineer, and DDA is providing structural engineering services. PREMIER Design + Build plans to deliver the projects in the spring of 2017.

CHICAGO — A joint venture between M&R Development and Bucksbaum Retail Properties LLC has broken ground on Addison & Clark, a mixed-use development situated on 2.3 acres across the street from Chicago’s Wrigley Field. The transit-oriented development will include 148 luxury apartments and 150,000 square feet of retail space. A 10-screen, 30,959-square-foot CMX movie theater will anchor the property, and the remaining space will also contain a health club and dining options. The project will offer studio, one- and two-bedroom units that will feature hardwood floors, quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, walk-in closets and in-unit washers and dryers. Amenities will include a 5,715-square-foot clubhouse; 8,746 square feet of outdoor space; a pool and spa; cyber café; business and conference center; community kitchen and event room; fitness center with sauna and steam room; and a dry cleaning service. The development will also include a 341-space parking garage for public use with an additional 64 spots reserved for residents. Chicago-based Solomon Cordwell Buenz is the project architect, and Chicago-based Power Construction will serve as the general contractor.

MARQUETTE, MICH. — EdR has broken ground on a multiple-building living-learning community at Northern Michigan University (NMU) in Marquette. More than 1,200 beds will be delivered in multiple phases during the second half of 2017 and 2018. The community will feature classrooms, study rooms, TV lounges and laundry facilities with Internet and Wi-Fi throughout. The property will also include a large patio and lobbies designed to accommodate art shows, student events, university functions and various types of entertainment. EdR was chosen by NMU to develop, finance, construct and manage the property through its ONE Plan, which uses the company’s equity and financial stability to fund projects on university land. Upon completion, EdR will operate the residence halls under a 75-year lease with NMU and will manage the facility, while NMU will provide residence life services.
