Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport

ATLANTA — A joint venture led by HOK has designed the $200 million improvement to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport’s domestic passenger terminal and central atrium. The project is part of the airport’s $6 billion, 20-year expansion and modernization program. Construction will begin later in 2016 and include the addition of two 864-foot-long canopies over curbside pick-up and drop-off areas, as well as a redesigned central atrium space. The joint venture includes Stanley, Love-Stanley PC and Chasm Architecture LLC, which are both headquartered in Atlanta. In 2015, the 207-gate airport became the world’s first airport to handle more than 100 million passengers in a calendar year.

Hotel Indigo Savannah Historic District

SAVANNAH, GA. — Noble Investment Group has opened the 252-room Hotel Indigo Savannah Historic District at 201 W. Bay St. in Savannah’s City Market at Ellis Square neighborhood. InterContinental Hotels Group manages the hotel, which is located at the site of the former Guckenheimer tobacco warehouse and grocery. The hotel features The Five Oaks Taproom restaurant, which serves breakfast and dinner with dishes made from ingredients sourced within 90 miles of Savannah. Local artist Meryl Turret designed the guest room murals, which showcase historic bottles that were unearthed in this district of Savannah, and each room also features watercolor pieces that highlight the original market building. Hotel amenities include a 24-hour fitness center and 6,000 square feet of flexible event space.

Howard & Marsh Exchange Greenwood

GREENWOOD, MISS. — Bank of Commerce and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas) have provided a grant to fund an adaptive reuse project in Greenwood. A historic building in downtown Greenwood has been transformed into a contemporary retail space that now houses Howard & Marsh Exchange, a boutique retailer selling home décor, accessories, antiques, art, bedding and gifts. Chris McQueen, owner of Howard & Marsh Exchange, funded the start-up costs of running the business using a loan from Bank of Commerce that was funded by an Economic Development Program (EDP) advance from FHLB Dallas, as well as an accompanying $25,000 EDP plus grant.

CHICAGO — Sedgwick Properties has broken ground on a 60-unit luxury apartment building in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood. The seven-story building is slated for completion in the spring of 2017. The apartment property will be located at 1325 N. Wells St. and offer one-, two- and three-bedroom units that will range from 601 square feet to 1,400 square feet. Unit amenities will include custom cabinetry, quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, plank flooring, in-unit washers and dryers and private balconies. Apartment amenities will include a rooftop plaza and pool, outdoor kitchen, fire pit, fitness center, community room, demonstration kitchen, bicycle storage, heated parking and valet dry cleaning service. The development will also include 1,800 square feet of ground-floor retail space.

One-American-Center-Austin-Texas

AUSTIN, TEXAS — Yates Construction will serve as general contractor for interior finishes of a multi-level lobby remodel at the One American Center building on 6th and Congress avenues. The property is located in downtown Austin near the Texas State Capitol. Pre-construction will begin immediately on the 25,000-square-foot, $4.5 million project, with construction slated to begin early this summer. Substantial project completion is expected in January 2017.

BELOIT, WIS. — Hendricks Commercial Properties will develop a 105,000-square-foot speculative industrial building in Beloit, approximately 75 miles southwest of Milwaukee. Situated on 30 acres at the intersection of Willowbrook and State Line roads, the facility will be able to accommodate users 52,000 square feet and larger. The City of Beloit currently owns the land. The facility will feature 32-foot clear heights, 10 dock doors, two drive-in doors and 140-foot truck courts. The property will also have an expansion capacity of 420,000 square feet. The construction is slated to start this spring and be completed by this fall. Angus Young Associates is designing the building. Corporate Contractors Inc. will be the general contractor, and Chase Brieman of CBRE is marketing the development for lease.

WAUKESHA, WIS. — PREMIER Design + Build LLC will construct a 214,533-square-foot industrial distribution warehouse in Waukesha, approximately 20 miles west of Milwaukee. The speculative facility, situated on 11.8 acres, will feature 32-foot clear heights, 28 truck dock positions, four drive-in doors, 52 trailer stalls and 91 car parking spaces. The Class A building will be located at 901 Northview Road. Partners in Design Inc. is the architect for the project, and Pinnacle Engineering Group is providing civil engineering services. HSA Commercial Real Estate is the building developer, Roger Siegel of JLL will market the building for lease.

COVINGTON, LA. — Doster Construction has broken ground on Springs at River Chase, an apartment community located in Covington, situated across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans. The property will feature floor plans ranging from studio to three-bedroom, and community amenities will include a clubhouse, resort-style pool, 24-hour fitness center, dog park, attached and detached garages, car care center and a pet spa. The project team includes developer Continental Properties and architect of record Phillips Partnership. Doster has completed more than 1,000 units of multifamily housing in the last year, including Springs at Fremaux in Slidell, La.

LEWISVILLE, TEXAS — Huffines Communities has begun construction on Phase IV of Hebron 121 Station in Lewisville. The transit-oriented community’s existing 678 units are near 100 percent occupancy. Once Phase IV is complete, Hebron 121 Station will total 1,148 units. The property is near I-35, State Highway 121, the President George Bush Turnpike and the Denton County Transit Authority Rail Station. The city of Lewisville owns and maintains 150 adjacent acres devoted to trails, lakes and green space. Phase IV will consist of four buildings and is being built near the main entrance to 121 Hebron Station on Penn Station Road. Amenities include a pool with swim up bar, a 10,000-square-foot clubhouse, fire pits, sand volleyball courts, fitness center, outdoor grills and Wi-Fi.

FRISCO, TEXAS — A six-floor, 132-suite Hyatt House extended stay hotel has opened in Frisco. The new Hyatt House features one- and two-bedroom suites, all with full kitchens. Other amenities include an indoor pool, business center, fitness center and two meeting rooms. With the hotel’s opening, Dallas-based NewcrestImage now owns and operates 19 properties with another 11 under construction or in development.
