TAMARAC, FLA. — Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has opened a new 41,500-square-foot Walmart Neighborhood Market in Tamarac. The store, which will be open 24/7, is located at 6931 N.W. 88th Ave. The new store is expected to create roughly 95 full- and part-time jobs and features a drive-thru pharmacy and a pickup counter for items ordered online. Wal-Mart Stores had more than $473 billion in sales in fiscal year 2014 in its 11,202 stores and online. The company employs more than 2 million associates worldwide.

INDIANAPOLIS — Developer Flaherty & Collins Properties will break ground on a 28-story, $121 million mixed-use luxury residential apartment tower on the north parcel of the former site of Market Square Arena. The property is located at the corner of Market and Alabama streets in downtown Indianapolis. The development consists of 292-luxury one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. The units will feature floor-to-ceiling glass, solar shades, quartz countertops in kitchens and baths, gourmet kitchens with energy-efficient appliances that include side-by-side refrigerators and recessed balconies. Select units will include private terraces.The development, at nearly 300 feet tall, will also feature a 40,000-square-foot Whole Foods Market. A groundbreaking ceremony for the project will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
RALEIGH, N.C. — Wood Partners LLC will soon begin development on Six Sixteen, a $40 million, 207-unit luxury apartment community located at 616 Oberlin Road in Raleigh. The asset will be located on the site of a vacant office building next door to Cameron Village Shopping Center. Wood Partners’ property management division, Wood Residential Services, will manage the community. The property will begin leasing in May 2016 with completion set for November 2017. JDavis Architects designed the community to wrap around a central courtyard that will feature a swimming pool, bocce ball courts, barbecue areas and an outdoor TV-viewing lounge. Other amenities will include an indoor TV lounge, billiards lounge, poker and wine-tasting room, fitness center, bike repair/maintenance room, dog-grooming room, parking garage, rooftop clubroom/patio and indoor storage units. Jim Anthony of Colliers International brokered the land sale for the site of Six Sixteen.
NASHVILLE, TENN. — Proffitt Dixon Partners will soon begin construction on Fountains Germantown, a 249-unit luxury apartment community located at 1407 Third Ave. North in Nashville’s Germantown neighborhood. The multifamily developer will break ground on Feb. 26 with an estimated completion date set for summer 2016. Nashville-based Smith Gee Studio designed the five-story community to standards set by the National Association of Home Builder’s Green Building Program. HFF arranged construction financing through Synovus Bank on behalf of Proffitt Dixon. The project team includes general contractor Doster Construction Co., management firm Matrix Residential and landscape architects Land Design and Civil Site. Civil Site is also the project’s civil engineer.
ATLANTA — The Trillist Cos. Inc. has begun construction on YOO on the Park, a 25-story apartment tower located adjacent to Piedmont Park in Midtown Atlanta. The Trillist Cos. partnered with London-based YOO Studio on the 245-unit multifamily project, which will be located at 207 13th St. between Juniper Street and Piedmont Avenue. The property’s amenity package will include multiple resident lounges, game rooms, a virtual golf simulator, indoor and outdoor fitness facilities, resort-style pool and lounge, 24-hour concierge services, bike fix-it station and pet facilities with dog grooming stations. Trillist Cos. and YOO Studio are expecting a summer 2016 completion.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Crescent Communities plans to develop a new mixed-use, transit-oriented project in Uptown Charlotte that will bring the neighborhood its first Whole Foods Market. The development will feature a 47,000-square-foot Whole Foods, a 450-unit luxury apartment community, two hotels and retail space. The project will be located on a 5.4-acre site at the Lynx Light Rail’s Stonewall Station. In addition to a raised, transit-level public plaza, the new project at Stonewall and Caldwell streets will include a resident-only outdoor amenities area atop the parking deck, which will feature a resort-style pool. Crescent will break ground on the new community on Stonewall Street this year and is targeting 2017 for its opening date. Lord Aeck Sargent and Preston Partnership LLC provided site planning and design services for Crescent Communities, and Land Design is the civil engineer.
HOUSTON — A development team including Jim Borders and Novare Group, with co-sponsor Batson-Cook Development Co., local development partner Peter W. Dienna, general contractor Batson-Cook Construction Co. and architectural firm Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart, has broken ground on SkyHouse Main. The development will be located at 1725 Main St. in Houston and will feature 336 residences across 24 stories, along with 7,200 square feet of street-level retail space. SkyHouse Main apartment homes will have floor-to-ceiling glass and high-end finishes, including stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, wood floors, balconies and high-speed Internet. The amenity package included a top floor featuring a club room, fitness center, pool and grilling area and unimpeded views of Houston. The project is within walking distance of more than 40 million square feet of office space, the Toyota Center, Minute Maid Park and BBVA Compass Stadium. The project will be adjacent to the Bell Station Metrorail stop, providing access to the Texas Medical Center. SkyHouse Main is the 14th SkyHouse-branded apartment community in the United States following projects in Dallas, Houston, Austin, Atlanta, Tampa, Orlando, Charlotte and Raleigh. ANDOVER, MASS. — Wood Partners LLC has broken ground on a mixed-income rental community on the former site of the Rolling Green Golf Course on Wood View Way in Andover. The 224-unit development will include 134 one-bedroom units, 70 two-bedroom units and 20 three-bedroom units, 56 of which will be affordable units. Leasing is expected to being in April 2016 and construction is slated for completion in July 2016. Interior finishes will include granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, wood cabinets, upgraded lighting and plumbing fixtures and wood-plank style flooring. Additionally, each residential building will include a fitness center with cardio and weigh-training and yoga/stretching space. The community clubhouse will feature gaming and media functions, wireless connectivity, a coffee bar and serving kitchen. Other on-site amenities include a saltwater pool, expansive sundeck, two courtyards with grilling stations and outdoor dining space, a multi-use recreational field, half basketball court, children’s outdoor play equipment and a dog park. PORTLAND, ORE. – A 165-room Embassy Suites has opened in Portland’s Silicon Forest neighborhood, which is known as a local tech hub. The hotel is located at 20001 NW Tanasbourne Drive. It is the first and only full-service hotel in the area. The Embassy Suites is owned by Hillsboro Hotel Partners II LLC, developed by Thackeray Garn Company LLC and managed by Western States Lodging and Management.
Commonweal Development Corp. Completes Construction on 72,500 SF Office Building in Eau Claire, Wis.
EAU CLAIRE, WIS. — Commonweal Development Corp. has completed construction on a 72,500-square-foot office building for JAMF Software in Eau Claire. The new, Class A property is located in the Phoenix Park area of downtown Eau Claire. Ayres Associates was the architect for the project. Market & Johnson served as the general contractor. The high tech facility is a combination of open office and meeting rooms featuring a fourth floor deck with a view of the Chippewa and Eau Claire rivers. JAMF software specializes in products and support for the Apple platform. The city of Eau Claire is building a parking structure adjacent to the building to serve JAMF and the neighboring Royal Credit Union headquarters.
