FISHERS AND PLAINFIELD, IND. — Boston Capital is investing in the construction of two affordable multifamily properties in Indiana: the 62-unit SouthPointe Village Apartments in Fishers and the 52-unit Haven Homes in Plainfield. The investments represent Boston Capital’s second and third partnerships with Indianapolis-based RealAmerica Development. Located 14 miles northeast of Indianapolis, SouthPointe Village will feature 19 one-bedroom units and 43 two-bedroom units in a single residential building. Thirteen of the units will be set aside for persons with developmental disabilities. Units will offer open-concept floor plans, built-in kitchen appliances, free Wi-Fi and in-unit washers and dryers. Additionally, the property will include a community room, computer center, fitness center, classes and space for service providers, an indoor playground, library and access to the Nickle Plate Trail. Situated near the Indianapolis International Airport, Haven Homes will feature 16 one-bedroom units, 20 two-bedroom units and 16 three-bedroom units in two residential buildings. ARVADA, COLO. — Green Bay, Wisonsin-based Associated Bank has provided a $9.6 million construction loan to Mortenson Development/Seavest Healthcare Properties for the development of Candelas Medical Office Building in Arvada. The 42,425-square-foot property will be located at the intersection of West 91st Place and Candelas Parkway. This is Associated Bank’s first transaction for a Mortenson and Seavest joint venture. Mortenson is a privately held, Minnesota-based organization providing fully integrated development services to clients nationwide, and Seavest is an institutional healthcare real estate investment manager.

MCDONOUGH, GA. — Zinus USA Inc. will invest $108 million in a new manufacturing and distribution facility in McDonough. The home furnishings company expects to create 804 full-time jobs at the property, which is expected to open in the first half of 2021. This marks the first manufacturing facility in North America for the South Korean-based company. Its other manufacturing facilities are located in China and Indonesia. According to multiple media reports, the building will be located at 830 Ga. Highway 42, the former site of the Toys “R” Us distribution center. The property is 27 miles southeast of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and two miles from Interstate 75. Zinus worked with Yoonie Kim, the Georgia Department of Economic Development’s director of Korean investments, on the investment. Other civic partners include the Henry County Development Authority, Georgia Quick Start and Georgia EMC.

SLIDELL, LA. — Baton Rouge, La.-based Brookwood Properties has opened a 920-unit self-storage facility in Slidell. Life Storage Inc., a self-storage REIT based in Buffalo, N.Y., will manage the 118,340-square-foot property. The asset is situated at 1540 Lindberg Drive, 32 miles northeast of downtown New Orleans. The new Life Storage property will be open seven days per week and offers contactless rentals via its RentNow platform 24 hours per day.

FAIRFAX, VA. — Giant Food will debut a 53,000-square-foot grocery store in Fairfax. The store, situated at 9400 Fairfax Blvd., will open Friday. The new location is 15 miles west of downtown Washington, D.C., and will house 180 employees. The new Fairfax location will also support some of Giant’s services including Giant’s Pickup service, where shoppers place their grocery orders on GiantFood.com or through the Giant Food mobile app and in-store associates will hand-select, pack and deliver orders right to shoppers’ cars. The location will also be home to a full-service Starbucks with café seating, a beer/wine shop, full-service floral shop and a PNC bank.

MESA, ARIZ. — Evergreen Devco has acquired an anchor-tenant building at the southwest corner of Mesa Drive and Southern Avenue in Mesa. Terms of the transaction were not released. Evergreen plans to redevelop the vacant, 30,400-square-foot property. The company is also working with a national retail tenant on a lease agreement to occupy the space, a former Big Lots location. The building is situated on approximately 89,000 square feet less than a quarter-mile from the Superstition Freeway (US 60), a popular retail and traffic corridor that has more than 180,000 residents within a three-mile radius.

DES PLAINES, ILL. — NexGen Hotels, serving as general contractor and developer, has unveiled plans for a $16 million Home2 Suites by Hilton, with a scheduled groundbreaking in April 2021. The 63,000-square-foot hotel will be located at 1700 S. Higgins Road in Des Plaines, approximately four miles from O’Hare International Airport. Slated for completion in summer 2022, the five-story hotel will feature 107 suites with fully equipped kitchens, designed for both short-term and extended-stay guests. The property will include outdoor lounge and patio areas, an indoor saltwater pool and Spin2 Cycle, a combination fitness and laundry facility. Alpharetta, Ga.-based Origination Design is serving as architect and St. Louis-based Genuine Hospitality Group will manage the hotel. The hotel is NexGen’s first Home2 Suites by Hilton-branded property.

RICHMOND, VA. — Capital Square’s development division has begun construction on Scott’s Collection I, a five-story, 80-unit multifamily community in Richmond’s Scott’s Addition neighborhood. The property will offer private balconies, a lobby and up to 70 parking spaces. Scott’s Collection I is the first of three developments that Capital Square is planning for the site, which is situated within an Opportunity Zone. A timeline for completion was not disclosed. The design team includes 510 Architects and Urban Core Construction. Greystar Property Management will manage Scott’s Collection I. Funding came through Capital Square’s CSRA Opportunity Zone Fund I LLC, which launched in July 2019, and M&T Bank provided construction financing.

SEATTLE — Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) plans to create 3,500 new tech and corporate jobs across six cities with the expansion of its Tech Hubs in Dallas, Detroit, Denver, New York, Phoenix and San Diego. The Seattle-based e-commerce company will invest more than $1.4 billion in the new offices, which will host teams supporting businesses across the company. The Tech Hub and corporate office expansions include: Adding more than 100,000 square feet of space and 600 tech and corporate roles at the company’s existing Dallas Tech Hub in North Dallas. The acquisition of more than 25,000 square feet of office space in Detroit and the addition of 100 jobs. An expansion of 20,000 square feet of office space and 100 jobs at the Denver Tech Hub. The opening of a 630,000-square-foot office, creating 2,000 new jobs, in New York City at the former Lord & Taylor Fifth Avenue building. A 90,000-square-foot expansion at the Phoenix Tech Hub allowing for more than 500 new jobs. The addition of more than 40,000 square feet of office space at the San Diego Tech Hub for the creation of 200 new jobs. INDIAN LAND, S.C. — Watercrest Senior Living Group and equity partner Waypoint Residential have opened Watercrest Fort Mill-Indian Land Assisted Living and Memory Care. The seniors housing community is located in Indian Land, 20 miles south of Charlotte just across the North Carolina-South Carolina border. The property features 75 assisted living units and 32 memory care units. General contractor Shiel Sexton built the community, which is the second senior living development partnership between Watercrest Senior Living Group and Waypoint Residential. The first project, Watercrest Newnan Assisted Living and Memory Care, recently opened in Newnan, Ga.
