MICHIGAN — Craft beer has become big business in Michigan, especially in the Detroit area, where breweries have expanded by 680,000 square feet since 2010, according to a report from CBRE. In 2017, the craft brewing industry contributed $76.2 billion to the U.S. economy. Of that amount, the total craft beer industry in Michigan contributed nearly $2.5 billion — ninth highest in the nation. In total, the state is home to 330 craft breweries, ranking it fourth in the nation by the number of establishments. From 2008 to 2016, Michigan added 1,600 jobs in breweries, accounting for sector employment growth of more than 760 percent.

GRAPEVINE, TEXAS — General contractor Talley Riggins Construction Group is underway on a 32,000-square-foot, build-to-suit office and warehouse project in Grapevine, a suburb of Fort Worth. The space will serve as the new headquarters for HVAC supplier McMillan James Equipment Co. The building features office space for over 100 employees, a covered roof terrace, covered parking and an approximately 10,000 square-foot warehouse. Dallas-based Merriman Anderson Architects served as the architect and interior designer on the project.
HUTTO, TEXAS — Houston-based NewQuest Properties has begun construction on a two-building retail project that will add 15,560 square feet of new space to Hutto, a northern suburb of Austin. The project represents Phase II of Townwest Commons, a 32-acre retail center that is anchored by Lowe’s Home Improvement and fronts State Highway 79. Phase II of Townwest Commons is expected to be complete in early 2020.
NEW YORK CITY — PUMA has opened an 18,000-square-foot flagship store in Manhattan, the company’s first location of this kind in North America. Customers can use the store’s PUMA x YOU technology to customize clothing and accessories before purchase. Additional in-store technology includes virtual racing and soccer simulators, 3-D knitting and screens that display alternate selections and colors of in-store merchandise.
PORTLAND, MAINE — Koucar Management, a Michigan-based developer, has broken ground on a 102-room hotel in Portland, a city about 55 miles north of Augusta. The property is a Cambria-brand hotel from Choice Hotels International, a Maryland-based international hotel franchisor. Amenities include an indoor-outdoor rooftop bar, 2,000 square feet of event space, fitness center and a restaurant and bar. The hotel is slated to open in 2021.
NORFOLK, NEB. — Darland Construction Co. is nearing completion of a four-story, 130,000-square-foot medical office building in Norfolk in eastern Nebraska. The facility will be known as the Faith Regional Health Services South Medical Office. The first floor will include an outpatient surgery center with six operating rooms and more than 20 patient rooms. The orthopedics department will be housed on the second floor and feature 40 specialized exam rooms, multiple X-Ray rooms and staff offices. The third floor will include the women’s health and pediatrics departments. The fourth floor will be home to surgical specialties, including ear, nose and throat, gastroenterology, general surgery, pain management, rheumatology and urology. The building is connected by a skywalk to the main hospital campus. Completion is slated for later this year. Avant Architects is the project architect.
PHOENIX — Fore Property has purchased of the former O’Neil Printing facility, located at 366 N. Second Ave. in downtown Phoenix, for $9.3 million. The development site consists of 2.6 acres with three sides of street frontage. The buyer plans to develop a high-end, mixed-use project on the site. Totaling 285,000 square feet, the seven-story development will feature 323 apartments in a mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom layouts, as well as ground-floor retail and restaurant space, a rooftop deck with views of Phoenix, a pool and fitness center. Construction is slated to begin the first quarter of 2020, with completion scheduled for mid-2022. Justin Horwitz and Paul Borgesen III of SVN Desert Commercial Advisors represented the buyer in the deal. The name of the seller was not released.
SPRING, TEXAS — Cypressbrook Development Co. has broken ground on Ariza Gosling, a 316-unit multifamily project that will be situated on 12.1 acres in the northern Houston suburb of Spring. The property will feature a pool, fitness center, game room, business center, dog park and walking trails. An expected construction completion date was not provided, but it is anticipated to coincide with the arrival of more than 5,000 new jobs in the nearby Springwoods Village development. Arroyo Energy Investors recently announced its relocation to Springwoods Village, the first office lease executed at the new property.
WEST JORDAN, UTAH — Amazon.com has announced plans to open a new fulfillment center in West Jordan. Seefried Industrial Properties will develop the more than 1 million-square-foot facility. The new fulfillment center will create more than 800 full-time jobs starting at $15 an hour with comprehensive benefits starting on the first day of employment, according to Amazon. The company currently employs more than 2,000 full-time associates throughout Utah. The center will be used to organize, pack and shop large customer items, such as sports equipment, patio furniture, fishing rods, pet food, kayaks, bicycles and larger household goods. Additional development details, including a timeline, have not been released.
BETHLEHEM, PA. — A partnership between Lehigh University and Greystar has opened SouthSide Commons, a 426-bed residence hall located on the university’s campus in Bethlehem, about 50 miles northwest of Trenton. The community offers fully furnished studio, two-, three- and four-bedroom units. Atkin Olshin Schade Architects designed the project, construction of which began in May 2018 and was completed July 2018.
